Exclusive: It’s official — free, ad-supported video on demand streaming service Amazon Freevee, the home of such originals as Jury Duty, Bosch: Legacy and Judy Justice, will be phased out over the coming weeks. Its content, which already has migrated and is available on Prime Video, will remain there, with new episodes of Freevee shows, including Judy Justice, Neighbours, Tribunal Justice, America’s Test Kitchen: The Next Generation and Bosch: Legacy as well as older originals including Jury Duty, High School, Hollywood Houselift with Jeff Lewis and Primo, staying in front of the paywall and available to non-Prime customers.

The update will be deployed in the territories where Freevee is currently available, the U.S., UK, Germany and Austria. Going forward, the content currently labeled as Freevee will be designated for non-Prime customers as “Watch for Free” on detail pages.

As we move closer to the end of 2024, now is the perfect time to look back at some of the worst shows of the year. At the top of my list, I have Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent, Prime Video’s Fallout, and Hulu’s The Bear season 3. For some fans of genre storytelling, 2024 has been a bit of a disappointing year. The Boys season 4 didn't over with fans quite as well as past installments, the House of the Dragon showrunners are feuding publicly with George R.R. Martin, and the latest Star Wars content from Disney+ — The Acolyte — was extremely divisive among fans. Since these were some of the most highly anticipated and high-budget genre series of the year, it has left many fans of genre storytelling feeling a bit morose. There have been bright spots: the historical fiction series Shogun crushed it at the Emmy’s and I personally am really enjoying the return of The Legend of Vox Machina. But whether because of last year’s acting and writer’s strikes or because new seasons of shows are taking longer than ever to reach our screens, 2024 is definitely not the year that it could have been.

Supernatural was one of the fantasy drama TV series that reigned over the small screen for years. The show focused on the Winchester Brothers, Sam and Dean portrayed by Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles respectively.

The demon hunting duo became immensely popular with the audience, and fans of the series were charmed by their bromance. It seemed like the actors were best of friends even off the screen, but one incident brought a new angle to the story. Despite a desperate lawsuit by Warner Bros. Discovery to keep live NBA games out of Amazon’s hands, all signs point to the e-retailer becoming an NBA broadcast partner in 2025-26. Amazon’s 11-year deal with the NBA will see it pay nearly $2 billion per season for a package of regular season and playoff games, but until now few other details about the contract between the two have been revealed. Now, more information about the deal is available, including an intriguing “Successor Technology” clause that could lead to trouble between the new partners in the future.

Key Details: The Successor Technology stipulation allows Amazon to distribute NBA games via new methods should they emerge in the coming years. The NBA cannot unreasonably object to these methods, or add new costs to its deal with Amazon.

The genre of horror films has been around for a very long time. Despite shocking and frightening audiences, this genre is very popular, and some filmmakers have made a living by creating horror films, especially after Alfred Hitchcock took the genre to new heights.

Wes Craven, John Carpenter, and George Romero are regarded as classics, but there are also a number of up-and-coming filmmakers who want to make a career in the genre.

One of them is Drew Hancock, whose upcoming sci-fi horror Companion is set to be released early next year, although we’ve just received news that the movie is being pushed back, although not by much.

Amazon‘s latest use of generative AI will be applied to its library of Prime Video originals. Thanks to a new feature called X-Ray Recaps, viewers will be able to catch up on what they missed before diving back into their favorite shows.

The recaps are built into X-Ray, the overlay Amazon Prime Video uses to identify actors as they appear on screen. The tech giant used a combination of multiple generative AI models — including those powered by Aws’ Amazon Bedrock and others trained on Amazon SageMaker — to integrate automated episode summaries into Prime Video hits like The Boys, Upload, and The Wheel of Time.

Episode summaries have never been hard to find on the internet, but the era of generative AI has unlocked new potential for customization within that format. YouTube has harnessed AI to summarize its videos, and Amazon believes that X-Ray Recaps can improve synopses in a number of ways.

Warner Bros. Discovery has in charge of operating the channel since 2008, but once the two sides split up next year its fate is in doubt.

The streamer has added AI-generated recaps for some of its original series, pitching it as a way for viewers to get back into a show they haven’t seen for a while — whether by choice or because of a long hiatus between seasons — or just to refresh their memories. They’re called X-Ray Recaps and add to Prime Video’s X-Ray feature, which shows the names of actors on screen when a show or movie is paused and provides details about a title’s production and soundtrack.

You might think that The Gilded Age, HBO's mannered period drama about feather-light conflict between members of the upper crust in 1880s New York City, doesn't have anything in common with Gen V, a spinoff of The Boys where college students get their heads lasered off by sociopathic superheroes. And you'd be right...except for one thing: both of them are greatly expanding their casts ahead of their new seasons: that's season 3 for The Gilded Age and season 2 for Gen V.

No need to go to IMDb to figure out where you recognize that guy from or to Shazam that song — so long as you’re actually watching a show or movie on Amazon.

Now Amazon Prime Video is extending that X-Ray feature a step further by summarizing full episodes or even entire seasons of TV through the push of a button. The company is calling it “X-Ray Recaps,” and it’s available now in Beta version on Amazon MGM Originals and for Fire TV users specifically.

Obviously, the best way to get caught up on a TV series you’re a few episodes behind on is to go back and watch. But we don’t live in a perfect world; people have lives and responsibilities, and that doesn’t always leave time for viewers to go back and watch every episode of a show to get caught up. Prime Video knows that which is why it has announced the release of its new “X-Ray Recaps” feature, allowing viewers to catch up to exactly the point they need to in a given show.

Key Details: X-Ray Recaps uses generative AI to create synopses for TV episodes, shows, and seasons. Customers can choose to recap up to a specific point in a single episode if they choose and expand from there.

Lieber, who was previously overseeing genre programming, will still report to Laura Lancaster, head of co-pro television and ongoing series. Vernon Sanders, head of TV at Amazon MGM Studios, announced the news in an internal note on Monday.

“In this new role, Tom will provide single-threaded leadership of all new development and ongoing series produced in the U.K.,” the memo reads. “The work and executives that were formerly assigned to our Pan-English team will fold into Tom’s new group.”

Last week, it was announced that TV vet Rola Bauer was stepping down from her role as head of English-language global original series produced outside the U.S.

The Dceu, that massive world of superheroes we’ve known for years, took a turn as James Gunn and Peter Safran kicked off a new vision that promised something different, something ambitious. The path they’ve mapped out? A lineup of movies and TV shows. And it all starts with Superman in 2025.

Forget another origin story. Gunn’s Superman, originally titled Superman: Legacy, took a bold route, diving right into the Man of Steel’s life as an established hero on Earth. Releasing July 11, 2025, this Superman, played by David Corenswet, is already a reporter at the Daily Planet, already knows Lois Lane (played by The Marvelous Mrs.

Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan), and yes, he’s already aware he’s an alien with powers that are pretty much unmatched.

HBO has given a series order to Dtf St. Louis, a seven-episode dark comedy “about a love triangle between three adults experiencing middle-age malaise, that leads to one of them ending up dead,” according to the cabler’s official logline.

The Friday casting news comes nearly eight months after the tragic death of Chance Perdomo, who played GodU favorite Andre Anderson in the first season. He died at age 27 in a motorcycle accident in March.

Jensen Ackles is best known for playing Dean Winchester on the iconic television series called Supernatural. Eric Kripke's superhero satire, adapted from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's even more controversial comic series, has a feminist bent and a recurring theme of its female characters asserting agency. Starlight/Annie January (Erin Moriarty) is the greatest example, with her literally becoming a progressive icon and thoughtful leader in-universe.

As part of the series' critique of corporate America, though, it does not celebrate rainbow capitalism (i.e. putting individuals from marginalized groups at the top of institutions doing the marginalizing). Unlike Stillwell and Stormfront before her, she's the first woman on the show to successfully form a respectful alliance with Homelander — and by "successfully," we just mean she managed to survive the whole season around Homelander without getting lasered to death. That's pretty impressive; sure, Firecracker (Valorie Curry) has also tried her best to do the same in the fourth season's final episodes, but somehow we don't think it's gonna go as well for her.

What makes Sage's survival of Homelander more impressive is how much she hid from him throughout the season; she knew A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) was the mole in the Seven instantly, but she never snitches him out.
