Despite being a remake of a highly successful and beloved original and coming after a hit 2005 run of the play, of which it kept the lead actors, the film was a major box-office disaster, with less than 250,000 tickets sold in France (14 times less than the original) and recouping only about 11% of its budget in its domestic theatrical run. Despite his numerous prior hits, Francis Veber has to date not directed another film since, concentrating on stage work. While a new film was announced in 2021, it appears to have been canceled.
