Paramount+ is breaking up with two recent additions to its roster by canceling the Kiefer Sutherland spy drama Rabbit Hole and Fatal Attraction, starring Joshua Jackson and Lizzy Caplan. Paramount+ is in slash-and-burn mode, with the company removing titles as a cost-cutting measure.
“We want to thank both series’ entire creative teams, crews and the fantastic casts for their dedication to bringing these series to life,” said the Paramount+ spokesperson. “Both Fatal Attraction and Rabbit Hole will continue to be available on Paramount+ for audiences to discover.”
Rabbit Hole and Fatal Attraction join Paramount‘s other canceled series, including Real World: Homecoming, The Twilight Zone, Interrogation, Coyote, No Activity, Guilty Party, and The Harper House. More cancelations hit the streaming service in June, with Star Trek: Prodigy, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, Queen of the Universe, and The Game going the way of the dodo. Paramount+ is saying thanks but no thanks to second seasons of Rabbit Hole and Fatal Attraction.
Rabbit Hole was a spy drama that starred Kiefer Sutherland; Fatal Attraction was a reimagining of the 1987 movie that featured Joshua Jackson and Lizzy Caplan.
“We want to thank both series’ entire creative teams, crews and the fantastic casts for their dedication to bringing these series to life,” said the Paramount+ spokesperson. “Both Fatal Attraction and Rabbit Hole will continue to be available on Paramount+ for audiences to discover.”
The eight-part Rabbit Hole launched its first season on March 26, while Fatal Attraction bowed in April.
Paramount+ has been removing titles since February in an effort to cut costs. Real World: Homecoming, along with The Twilight Zone, Interrogation, Coyote, No Activity, Guilty Party and animated series The Harper House were among the first to get the boot.

Paramount+ is in slash-and-burn mode after canceling several original series, including Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, Star Trek: Prodigy, Queen of the Universe, and The Game. Paramount is taking these titles off its streaming platform to reap the benefits of a content write-down. Sadly, two shows in the lineup won’t make it past their first season.
Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies has been canceled after one season, while Star Trek: Prodigy is being canceled ahead of its previously announced second season. Meanwhile, The Game, and Queen of the Universe, the reality show hosted by Graham Norton, have both been canceled after two seasons.
Paramount+ will remove all four series from the streamer to qualify for the write-down. However, creatives can shop each title to other networks or streamers for the chance at another life. Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, Star Trek: Prodigy, Queen of the Universe,...

Paramount+ announces that it has cancelled and plans to remove four shows, including reversing the renewal of Star Trek: Prodigy season 2. This practice quickly proved divisive when HBO Max removed a slew of its programming from streaming. Financial reasons and reorganizations are often cited as the main reasons for controversial removals, including when Disney+ removed dozens of series and movies this past May. The trend has become common in the streaming sphere, with Paramount+ being the latest to undergo this plan.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, ahead of a planned merger with Showtime, Paramount+ has announced the cancellation of the following shows: Star Trek: Prodigy, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, The Game, and Queen of the Universe. Paramount+ said it was “refining our content offering to deliver the best streaming experience for subscribers” amid the Showtime merger. Paramount+ has canceled a slew of its originals including Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, Star Trek: Prodigy, Queen of the Universe and The Game and is taking the shows off its platform as it becomes the latest media company to take a content write-down.
Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies has been canceled after one season, Star Trek: Prodigy will not be going forth with its previously announced second season, The Game has been canceled after two seasons and Graham Norton-hosted reality series Queen of the Universe has been axed after two seasons.
All of these titles will be removed from Paramount+ with the studios planning to shop some of them to rival broadcasters and streamers.
The company will take a content impairment charge and is expected to reveal the financial impact at its next earnings.

Only 10 episodes of The Gordita Chronicles were produced before HBO Max canceled the comedy last summer amid a pullback on live-action kids and family programming. But at least creator Claudia Forestieri felt good knowing that new viewers could still find the show on the streamer.
“I got several DMs from people who saw it in-flight on American Airlines, where a few episodes are still available, and they ended up finishing the season on HBO Max,” Forestieri told Deadline.
But the consolation prize of keeping the show on the platform was short-lived: less than five months after The Gordita Chronicles was canceled, all 10 episodes were removed as part of a library purge that impacted dozens of programs on HBO Max.
At least Forestieri wasn’t alone in getting the boot. In the last few months, scores of shows have been yanked from various platforms, including Westworld, Raised By Wolves, The Time Traveler’s Wife,...

More content cuts are coming to Paramount+ ahead of its merger with Showtime, and it includes Jordan Peele's The Twilight Zone, among other original series. Since the merger announcement, multiple Showtime series have already been cut as Paramount+ steps in to take over the studio, but now Paramount+ is starting to unveil how the merger will affect their pre-existing content on the platform. The moves from Paramount+ continue an ongoing trend in Hollywood of networks and streaming providers removing content from their platforms in a series of financially-charged decisions.

Paramount+ has followed other streamers like HBO Max in removing some of its original programming off the platform, including the likes of Jordan Peele’s “The Twilight Zone” reboot and “The Real World: Homecoming New York.” The news comes two days after Paramount announced that Showtime would be undergoing a rebrand and merging with Paramount+’s premium service later this year.
Other titles no longer showing up on the platform include “Coyote,” “No Activity,” “Guilty Party” and “The Harper House.” “The Twilight Zone,” which was canceled after two seasons, was a project from the now-defunct CBS All Access (later rebranded to Paramount+). The removal of “Homecoming,” a spinoff to the reality series “The Real World” that aired for three decades on MTV, is more unclear given that the series had yet to receive a formal cancellation.

Days after Showtime, which is currently merging with Paramount+, pulled multiple titles from their platform, the streaming service has followed suit.

“The Real World: Homecoming,” which launched in 2021 with the New York cast, returned for two more seasons, reuniting the casts of Los Angeles and New Orleans. The Bunim/Murray Productions and MTV Entertainment Studios produced project was well-received by critics and no cancelation announcement has been made.

The Critics Choice Awards stand out in part because the organization combines film and television categories into one night of mega-celebration. But not all elements are created equal on the road to gold.
Here, Variety breaks down what is notable about the television submission process and side of the ballot for this year’s awards, which take place Jan. 9 in Los Angeles. The ceremony will be simulcast on the CW and TBS.
Two Phase 1 Timelines
The Critics Choice Assn. (Cca) does not require formal submissions for film categories, but it does for the television categories. This year, that period was between Sept. 27 and Nov. 15. The nomination committee began deliberations on Nov. 16, and the TV nominations will be announced on Dec. 6. In contrast, film branch members of the organization won’t receive their nominating ballots until the next day, Dec. 7, with the deadline of midnight Pt Dec. 10 to return film ballots.

Paramount+ has canceled the animated comedy after one season. It comes a week after the ten episode show, which premiered on September 16, wrapped up its season on November 4.
Creator Brad Neely broke the news on social media, “The Harper House is cancelled. I’ll always appreciate the show’s resilient crew and cast that came together during an unprecedented breakdown of normal life to make this family with me. I’m grateful to everyone involved and to anyone who gave it a shot. It’s time to get nuts.”

One of the most impressive things about The Harper House is the fact that for an animated family sitcom, it incorporates myriad senses of humor. The fish out of water premise of the series, about the Harper family moving from the rich part of town to the poor side of town, already lends itself to some laughs, but it shines when fans connect to different characters depending on the type of jokes they tell or silly ways they interpret situations.

To its credit, The Harper House bucks a lot of traditional comedy stereotypes and doesn't have a lot of stupid characters. Just because it takes place in River Creek, Arkansas, doesn't mean it features any dim-witted Southern "hayseeds", and it doesn't showcase a married couple consisting of a dumb, slovenly husband married to an exasperated wife, nor a sibling pair consisting of a ridiculously smart know-it-all and a class clown.

It takes a few episodes for the Harpers of The Harper House to get used to the Harper House. The Paramount+ animated comedy centers on a formerly “moderately wealthy” family forced to move into a decrepit home on the poor side of town after go-getter mom Debbie (Rhea Seehorn) loses her engineering job. Needless to say, it’s an adjustment for the family, who are unused to going without luxuries like country club memberships and eager to return to their old lives as soon as humanly possible.

San Diego Comic-Con 2021, the second Comic-Con@Home edition of the beloved pop culture event, kicks off its three-day run Friday.
The free online event, which runs through Sunday, isn't anywhere near as packed with panels as the famed in-person Sdcc usually is, but a decent number of studios and networks will still be hosting Q&As and digital screenings for their TV shows and movies.
As TheWrap reported exclusively earliest this month, HBO (which did present at the 2020 event) will be skipping this year's online con, but its sibling streaming service HBO Max is presenting a virtual event for the show, "gen:lock."
Other notable absentees from the second (and hopefully last) pandemic-forced virtual San Diego Comic-Con include Marvel Studios and DC Films, both of which did not attend the first Comic-Con@Home last year.

For the second year in a row, San Diego Comic-Con — the largest fan gathering in North America — has been forced by the pandemic to hold its annual convention as a virtual event. Last year’s Comic-Con@Home was a valiant effort to keep the 51-year tradition alive, but without marquee draws such as Marvel Studios and DC Films, it barely made a blip in terms of social media impact.
This year’s virtual Comic-Con has been scaled down, taking place largely over three days (July 23–25) instead of five. And with Marvel and DC sitting out once again, Comic-Con@Home promises to be a far more modest event than the gargantuan convention that’s drawn more than 130,000 attendees to San Diego every summer.
Ironically, the most Comic-Con-y event may be a panel Paramount is holding two days early — i.e. today — at 1 p.m. Pt for the “G.I. Joe” spin-off “Snake Eyes,...
