- An over confident cricketer who ruins his career must prove his worth by starting all over again
- This cricket epic story revolves around the life of Vijay Shekhawat (Harman Baweja) and his father Ram Shekhawat (Anupam Kher). Ram (who lives in Jaisalmer) has great aspirations for his son Vijay but alas he dreams of playing for the Indian cricket team one day. Vijay does well from the beginning and wins several cricket trophies from school level itself. He has been trying to get into the Rajasthan Ranji team for 7 yrs, but despite the tonnes of runs, he is overlooked in favor of some rich brat who bribes the selectors. He is 24 yrs old. His childhood friend Nandini (Amrita Rao) has believed in him since the very first time he spoke the name of cricket and never ever doubted him. She encourages Vijay to keep going, when he thinks about giving up. Vijay's local coach Vedpal suggests that he joins the Indian squad (prepping in Jaipur, for a tour to Australia) as a nets batsman. Since Indian Coach (Dalip Tahil) is attending the sessions, if he is impressed, anything can happen. Vijay agrees after Ram insists that he should not give up just yet.
On reaching Jaipur, Vjay begs the Indian coach for 1 chance. The coach relents after seeing Vijay's passion for the game. Vijay carts Ashish Nehra & Bhajji all over the ground and impresses the coach. The coach gets Vijay selected for the Ranji match against Mumbai. Vijay scores a double century. Vijay's dream eventually comes true when Vijay makes it to the Indian team. Vijay travels with the team to Australia.
Brett Lee is wreaking havoc in the first ODI when Vijay walks out to bat. Brett gives a rousing welcome to Vijay with a searing bouncer that wakes him up. Vijay responds by hitting Brett for a 6. India wins the match with Vijay hitting a century on debut. Waqar Younis presents him the MoM award. Vijay hits another century in the next ODi and wins the game for India. 3rd ODI and 3rd century. Vijay returns home an instant hero. Andy Singh (Gulshan Grover) is a celebrity manager and signs Vijay as a brand ambassador. Andy already manages many players such as Jayasuriya, Gavaskar and Brett Lee. Andy signs Vijay with a check of rs 4 Crores. Vijay is on a roll and plays a stellar role in India's win in SA. England is next. Vijay is true to his reputation in the beginning and refuses frivolous appearances (which pay rs 50 Lakhs+ for 10 mins of show time). Pakistan is next. Slowly, Vijay starts drinking to celebrate his new deals. Vijay is named the ODI player of the yr.
Vijay signs a 3 yr extension with Andy for Rs 100 Crores. Vijay buys a new swanky house for Ram in Mumbai (costing rs 25 Crores), so he can stay with Vijay.. Vijay needs to work overtime on his endorsement deals. Ram doesn't like Andy and warns Vijay against trusting him fully. Andy starts booking deals during Vijay's training time and advises him not to attend camp etc. Slowly the money gets to Vijay's head and he starts misbehaving with media and fans. He is also sleeping around with random women.
Vijay is warned by the coaches but he dares them to drop him from the team. Now, Vijay's form deserts him as his mind is not on his game. He fails in many matches and still misses his nets and practice sessions as Andy keeps him engaged in endorsement deals. Media starts questioning Vijay's colorful life and its impact on his game. Ram arrives in Mumbai and throws Andy out of Vijay's house. Vijay refuses to go with Ram back to Jaisalmer. In anger a drunk Vijay goes to practice and injures his back. He has a herniated disk between L4 and L5. No cricket for 6 months. Andy tells Vijay not to tell the board about this injury.
Vijay keeps playing and goes 20 innings without a major score. Vijay aggravates his injury and requires surgery, but Andy asks the doctor not to reveal this to Vijay. Andy tells Vijay to take pain killer injections to continue playing. In a do-or-die match, Vijay scores 61 but ends up injuring his back even more before being run out. Vijay decides to come clean to India coach. Before Vijay could say anything, Andy double crosses Vijay and goes to national media to brand him a traitor for hiding his injury from everyone.
Vijay soon discovers how quickly the media and the public can make a villain out of a hero. Unable to bear the shock and humiliation, Ram suffers a brain hemorrhage. Ram's house is Jaisalmer is burnt down by an angry mob. Vijay is banned from playing cricket. Andy sues Vijay and he gives back all the money he earned from Andy. Nandini takes the responsibility to care for Ram (Ram still wont meet Vijay) and take in Vijay. Vijay and Nandini fly to Australia to have surgery on his back. Brett helps Vijay by arranging meetings with the best doctors. The surgery is successful and Vijay soon realizes that Nandini, his childhood friend, could be his life partner. He nurtures his feelings for her but Nandini is still healing after Vijay's bad side took over and is finding it hard to trust him and behave like his true friend again. They return to Jaisalmer and Vijay vows to be a better cricketer for his country.
He proves himself to his father and Nandini that he can play for his country and his coach relies on him too. He plays Ranji and dominates the season. The International cricket ban on his also comes to an end. When Andy approaches Vijay, he punches him. Vijay also apologizes to the India coach. He gets selected once again to play in the major international cricket tournament. He injures himself while playing (he is not played till the finals as Rohit Sharma is in red hot form. But Rohit is injured after the semi final against Pakistan and Vijay gets to play in the final.) (he scores the fastest 50 in international cricket) but vows to play no matter his health (India is chasing a huge target and is already 7 down and Vijay is the only specialist batsman left. Vijay is hit by a Brett Lee bouncer and is knocked out and is carried out of the playing area) (Vijay wakes up after a few mins and is adamant to return to the pitch when India needs 50 runs from 12 balls and only 1 wicket left) (he hits 6 sixes, but then again falls. He cant see the balls when India needs 4 from 3 balls. But he manages to hit the last ball for a 4). He wins the cricket tournament and returns to his hometown Jaisalmer, to see his father and Nandini.
Vijay and his father reconcile and just when everything is going fine Ram dies in Vijay's arms. They hold the funeral and we see Vijay and Nandini comforting each other in the end scene. We assume they get together. And it finishes with Vijay once again playing in a cricket match and playing for his country.
