So many Korean citizens are living in extreme poverty, it seems, that they are eager to participate in the titular Squid Game, a mysterious competitive event that will, under the right circumstances, award the winner ₩45.6 billion. The competition consists of 456 players who engage in simple children's games, with the losers being eliminated at the end of every round. The players, however, are surprised to learn that they will be murdered when they lose. The murderers are creepy masked thugs in pink tracksuits, and the event is overseen by the "Front Man," a masked man in black.

Freelance, the latest film from WWE star turned actor John Cena, delivers an engaging mix of action and comedy, elements that Cena has increasingly become known for. Since the ’80s, several pro-wrestling giants have attempted to transition into the realm of movies, but only a few did manage to prevail on the silver screen. And similar was the case for John Cena for nearly a decade, when he started out in showbiz back in the 2000s but was met with little success, as his movies failed to make it big at the box office.

While it seemed his acting career might’ve been heading towards the same track as Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Triple H’s run in showbiz, one change ended up salvaging his career.

John Cena certainly isn't the first wrestler to become a movie star. Hulk Hogan, Jesse Ventura, and Andre the Giant brought their muscles to the big screen decades ago. The late '90s and early 2000s saw Bill Goldberg and Dwayne Johnson enter the fray, with the latter becoming one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, and he's still going strong. But it wouldn't be until the likes of Dave Bautista and John Cena that we'd get a pair of wrestlers who truly stepped into the world of acting without relying mostly on their muscular presence to do the heavy lifting on the big screen for them, both literally and figuratively. 

Dave Bautista has proven to be a reliable supporting star in the superhero blockbuster franchise "Guardians of the Galaxy," but he's also delivered more haunting turns in the likes of "Blade Runner 2049," "Dune," and M. Night Shyamalan's "Knock at the Cabin.

Your mileage may vary on Kevin Hart as a movie star, and on Netflix's big-budget original movies. In 2005, John Cena rapped that we couldn't see him. In 2023, he couldn't be more visible. Exclusive: Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale), Froy Gutierrez (Cruel Summer) and Gabriel Basso (Hillbilly Elegy) have been tapped to star in a Lionsgate remake of the 2008 horror The Strangers, which has entered production in Slovakia. Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger) is directing the film, which will be the first in a trilogy, having locked in a deal to helm the subsequent pair.

The original film The Strangers was a home invasion pic, which Bryan Bertino wrote and directed in his feature debut, with Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman starring. It registered as a sleeper hit upon its May 2008 release via Universal Pictures and came to be appreciated in the years following as a cult classic, with the sequel The Strangers: Prey at Night being released in March of 2018.

The new Strangers film will follow Petsch’s character as she drives cross-country with her longtime boyfriend (Gutierrez) to begin a new life in the Pacific Northwest.

All streaming services go through a down period after the excitement of Spooky Season, it’s only natural. Thankfully with its list of new releases for November 2020, Hulu is making the best out of a barren pop culture landscape.

For starters, Hulu is premiering one of its major 2020 reboots this month as Animaniacs arrives on Nov. 20. Now that we’re just over halfway through October, it’s time to look ahead to what’s arriving on Hulu across November. And the penultimate month of the year is set to deliver a humungous haul of new movies and TV shows. In particular, fresh off their Huluween celebrations, the streaming service is celebrating Christmas early with a load of holiday-related titles dropping on November 1st.

Various films with Christmas in the name land that day – including Christmas in Compton, The Dog Who Saved Christmas and Once Upon a Time at Christmas – as well as a bunch of festive Food Network shows. A few more arrive on the 15th as well. But even if you’re not in the mood for holiday cheer until December, there’s still plenty to enjoy from what’s coming to Hulu in November.

Wrestler-turned-actor John Cena tells us what drew him to Dolittle and more.

John Cena is one of a handful of actors -- Dwayne Johnson and Dave Bautista are other recent examples -- who started out in the world of professional wrestling before making a successful transition from live sports entertainment to the big screen. As a WWE headliner, he won several championships and began the primary public face of the brand for nearly a decade, while beginning his career as an actor with WWE-produced action films like The Marine (2006) and 12 Rounds (2009).

His comedic turn in Judd Apatow’s Trainwreck (2015) opened up a bunch of new doors for Cena, leading to more roles in hit comedies like Sisters, Daddy’s Home (both also 2015) and Blockers (2018). At the same time, his voiceover work landed him the title role in the charming Ferdinand (2017), based on the beloved children’s book.

John Cena has come a long way since “The Marine,” (2006) the WWE superstar’s first starring vehicle (which has since had so many sequels made without Cena that we’ve lost count). He followed up his not exactly rapturously received action debut with “12 Rounds,” (remember that movie?) and then the wrestler’s acting career seemed to be put on hold for a while (at the time it seemed like a good idea).

WWE franchise face and surging movie star John Cena is reportedly in talks to join the cast of James Gunn’s Suicide Squad 2.

Suicide Squad 2 might be on the verge of adding a prominent cast member who regularly claims that you can’t see him. – And no, we’re not talking about a metahuman with the power of invisibility.

John Cena is in talks to join the cast of DC/Warner’s Suicide Squad 2, reports Variety. However, details about Cena’s prospective casting are currently scarce, with nothing indicating what character he’d play. Regardless, Cena – a burgeoning movie star and the biggest name to emerge from pro wrestling in the last few decades – would be another high-profile acquisition after it recently added international superstar Idris Elba, who was set to replace Will Smith in the role of Deadshot before the character was cut, though will remain to play a different character.

This upcoming Chinese film Legend of the Ancient Sword looks like a blast! This is a fantasy adventure action film that comes from director Renny Harlin. He has previously brought us films such as Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger, Cutthroat Island, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Deep Blue Sea, Exorcist: The Beginning, and 12 Rounds. This is definitely different from anything he's done before and the trailer that you can watch below is so damn cool!

John Cena has joined Jackie Chan in the independent action-thriller “Project X,” set at a Chinese-run oil refinery in the Middle East.

Cena is replacing Sylvester Stallone in the movie, which had been developed as “Ex-Baghdad.” Scott Waugh is directing from a script by Arash Amel.

Chan will portray a Chinese private security contractor who is tasked with extracting oil workers from a refinery that’s been attacked. He teams up with a former U.S. Marine (Cena), when he learns that the attackers’ real plan is to steal the oil. Chan will also produce “Project X” along with Joe Tam, Esmond Ren, and Hans Canosa.

There was a lucrative extra dimension to the No. 1 bow of DreamWorks Animation's 3-D animated feature "Monsters vs. Aliens" this weekend.

Released by Paramount in a mix of 2-D and 3-D venues, "Monsters" topped all domestic comers with an estimated $58.2 million debut boasting outsized contributions from its 3-D screens.

"Monsters" played on about 7,000 screens in 4,104 theaters, with the PG-rated action comedy offered in 3-D on just over 2,000 of those U.S. and Canadian screens. But 3-D screens contributed 56% of the overall tally -- or $32.6 million from just 28% of the screens -- to power "Monsters" to the biggest 3-D opening ever.
