Hi-Fear is the final instalment of the trilogy that started in 2013 with Hi-8 and was followed in 2018 by Hi-Death. These anthologies have been tributes to the glory days of shot-on-video horror and were made by many of the pioneers of that movement. This time out, the framing segment “What Are You Afraid Of?”, written and directed by Brad Sykes from a story by Brad and Josephina Sykes introduces us to Natalie, an artist tasked with creating the splash pages for four tales of horror for the comic Hi-Fear.

In this universe, vampires hide in desert shacks during the daylight hours, and sometimes merely bury themselves in sand. They are all ghoulish monsters immune to crosses, holy water, and garlic. Prime Video got off to a fast start this summer with the release of The Boys season 3 on June 3. Now, as we enter the dog days, Prime Video is set to keep the warm weather good times rolling with a new twist on an old classic. That’s right, Amazon’s list of new releases for August 2022 is highlighted by some good old-fashioned baseball.

A League of Their Own, the TV adaptation of Penny Marshall’s 1992 movie, is set to premiere on Aug. 12. Like the movie before it, the series will dramatize the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League which saw women playing America’s pastime while the major leagues were on pause for World War II. Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) co-created the show and will star as catcher Carson Shaw.

Prime Video will continue rolling out its summer slate in the month of August, releasing new original series, as well as a mix of suspenseful films, action movies and more.

Amazon’s series version of “A League of Their Own” will debut its eight-episode first season on Aug. 12, introducing new characters and stories set in the historical opening of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (Aagpbl).

Ron Howard’s “Thirteen Lives” tells the real-life story of how a young boys’ soccer team was rescued from the Thai mountain cave where they got stuck for 10 days along with their coach.

Other new film arrivals include hits from earlier this summer, “The Lost City” starring Sandra Bullock, Daniel Radcliffe, Channing Tatum and Brad Pitt, as well as “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.” Academy Award-nominated film “Licorice Pizza” also arrives on Prime Video this month.

December’s home media releases are off to a quiet start, as we only have a handful of titles headed home on Tuesday. Dave Franco’s directorial debut, The Rental, is being released on both Blu-ray & DVD this week, and if you’re looking to upgrade some of your vamp-related titles, both Blade and Underworld are getting a 4K Ultra HD overhaul.

Hilary Duff's eldest sister Haylie has been hitting the genre creds hard of late. With not only 'Backwoods', 'Fear Island' and of course the upcoming Michael Rooker helmed horror 'Pennhurst' (currently in post) already under her belt she's now signed up for 'Home Invasion'. The simple titled flick, helmed and penned by Doug Campbell, will star Haylie Duff (below) alongside 'The Hitcher's C. Thomas Howell and Jason Stuart. It's certainly going to be one hell of a horror year for sharks, aliens and home invasion flicks. Amongst the other Hi flicks you should look out for are 'Stash House', 'Kidnapped', 'The Replicas, 'Mothers Day' and a sequel to 'The Collector'!...

Doug Campbell's indie Home Invasion was written by Christine Conradt and begins lensing March 8th in Los Angeles. It tells the story of a single mother who fatally shoots a burglar in self-defense and then joins a support group where she makes a friend, not knowing her new pal is the burglar's girlfriend seeking revenge. Genius Products announced today that Haylie Duff's fight for your life terror vehicle Backwoods will be hitting DVD on June 23rd. We know you've been waiting for it! Just hang in there!

Synopsis

"A group of seven co-workers venture into the woods on a corporate retreat to test their survival skills and paint-ball marksmanship. When the game starts the next morning, the group finds that their training is more than a paint-ball game; it’s a fight for survival in a hostile ground whose inhabitants are maniacal lunatics!"

Ryan Merriman ( Final Destination 3 ), Danny Nucci ( World Trade Center ) and Jonathan Chase also star as coworkers who test more than just their camping skills when a company retreat goes terribly wrong.
