Featured review
A girl is playing wit her dolls when her grandmother tells her it is time for bed. She protests that she is marrying her china doll to her monkey doll, Babylas. It makes no difference to the grandmother, so it's off to bed, where she finishes her story in her dreams, as Babylas goes on romantic misadventures.
It's another of Wladyslaw Starewicz's elaborately detailed stop-motion works, with lots of humorous detail and exquisite care paid attention to making sure the various characters interact cleanly. Babylas calls off the marriage, and pursues an ancien-regime lamp cover, much to the displeasure of her cavalier courtier; there's a frisson of sexual tension as Babylas hides under her skirts.
