This movie could have been a real murder mystery movie..instead a bunch of people just died for nothing...don't waste your time with this.... I can't believe I wasted 2 hours on this.

Despite the famous cast of actors in this film, a bore fest.
A slow paced murder mysteries where little happens. I guessed who did it very early on which was a reflection of the poor direction and script.
Made for tv styling. Overacting left, right and centre.
Bad script, terrible acting.
This isn't a western but a fantasy and a very poor one.
I could go on but you get the picture......its terrible.

Lots of well-known faces in what is quite possibly the one of the worst westerns I've seen. I only queued this up because of some of the actors.
I was bored.. so terribly bored after the opening 5 minutes... it's dialog... all dialog... not good dialog.. just dialog... for an hour an a half.. then something happens in the last 10 minutes as well.
Frankly the filmmakers would have to pay be a hefty fee to sit through this thing a second time.
Don't bother.

Starts as an average western story with decent cinematography and a very interesting cast.
The first half of the movie is passable, waiting to see how it builds up, nothing special happens. The third quarter falls in a sequence of disappointing clichés, completely making me lose the faith in the movie, but the last quarter was absolute nonsense! I couldn't believe such bad writing, I couldn't stop rolling my eyes and wondering in amazement what the hell was going on and why everyone was doing what they were doing. Abysmal.
I won't bother mentioning any other aspect of the movie, I'm giving some points on the technical aspect and the casting, all the rest is pathetic.

Wanted to give it 7 stars, would give it 6 1/2 if possible..
Positives- actors, a couple creative scenes I hadn't seen before in a Western, cinematography not bad at all, acting decent, plot line acceptable and actually analogous to the world at large, which I'm not sure was intentional, but works from my perspective..
Negatives- everything looks new, like they just made it or polished it up.. Kinda weak on I presume the set masters part.. I don't think it's giving anything away to toss in the typical scenario of people getting shot several times, then still functioning.. Of course bullets rarely run out and Hollywood does what it does and way overdoes the booms and bangs.. They had an ok idea for the script, but I suspect in order to get the picture made the studio or some idiot producer decided they needed more bang for the buck.. It's too bad as if they had let it alone (and gave it a better title) this could have been very good.. As is, I found it entertaining enough.. No worse than dozens of old B rated Westerns from years gone by.. If they'd have fixed the 3 main problems I mentioned (and the stupid title) it could have been a contender.. I give it bonus points for the deeper world view and I hope people get some value from that as not many movies can offer that these days.. Certainly better than a lot of the garbage I've seen over recent years..! 🤔

Actors were not bad but awful story and script or poor direction or I'm walking too ahead of time. People need to experience life and study filmmaking before trying their hand on it.

I don't know how a film makes it out of editing in such a state, how the corny bumper sticker lines are all left in. It screams of someone with too much money to waste and little talent to spare. Made for tv styling, too bright, not gritty or visceral and full of huge plot holes and atrocious dialogue. Give it a miss.
If you are not a fan of 'Old Western' type movies, you might not enjoy this film.
If you are like me however and enjoy Clint Eastwood movies and similar old fashion Westerns, you will probably enjoy this movie. While this is not filled with constant blood pumping action, this movie kept me entertained throughout the entire film. No unnecessary drama, nothing too unrealistic, and no crazy uncomfortable scenes just for the sake of having a shock factor.
If you are home on a Friday night with a beer and a pizza and a couple hours to kill where you can just turn your mind off for a bit, I would recommend throwing this movie on.

Not a bad effort, bearing in mind its made-for-tv credentials. Reasonable storyline, decent acting, and felt true to the spaghetti western spirit. Some lazily contrived set-ups, such as: an inability of the pursued to escape, until they really need to; wild gunfire suddenly becoming unerringly accurate, etc. On the whole, however, an enjoyable watch.
Those reviewers complaining of an agenda etc. Need to take a look at themselves! Those mentioning a slowness to the narrative should take some time to watch some Sergio Leone. This is not of that standard to be sure, but it seens to understand what a good western is, and largely delivers.

Nothing other people haven't said. It is boring, long, and the plot is very convoluted. There are some nice action scenes with the shootout that comes at the end, but other than that it is predictable. But of course, what made it a complete bust is from beginning to the end filled with "the message."

Films like this are made every day. Payday films. Someone fresh out of director school or more likely, someone who never went to director school, hires some has been actors and makes a film based on a famous story.
Either Richard Dreyfuss or Gabriel Byrne really needed the money.
Anna Camp is usually funnier, she picked the wrong film here. Thomas Jane is always brooding and dark so he continues on in his half-talent way.
The rest of the cast just bumble on with incredibly poor direction, substandard sets and oft-regurgitated dialogue.
I think I gave it more than it was worth with a 3 but that was just for who Richard Dreyfuss used to be. (Although he was never great) Give this a wide berth if you value good films.

A rather unusual western, with an unusual topic, but there was something missing, something really surprising, even tragic, and in terms of mystery western, I highly prefered FIVE CARDS STUD, and I also expected something better with the likes of Gabriel Byrne and Tim Roth. During the viewing, I was waiting for some good lines, because some scenes are not that foreseeable, nealy shocking, but the overall result is for me run of the mill, poorly average. No really, I was deceived by such a poor ending, destined, I guess, to silly audiences, whom I refuse to belong to. Westerns from the 2020'S should bring something new, refreshing, surprising elements. I don't think that should be so difficult. But that's not a junk, garbage stuff either. Let's be fair. I found very unusual and riveting the relationship between the young serial killer - very rare in a western - and the young lady, who fights for him. Very rare. Good point.

Not a terrible story could do without the lgtvbbq stuff, which isn't historically accurate. Character development could have used a little work as well but overall it was entertaining.

I must admit that the movie's cover/poster definitely seemed interesting, and the fact that there was names like Gabriel Byrne, Thomas Jane and Richard Dreyfuss on the cast list definitely had me interested. So as I had the opportunity to sit down and watch the 2022 Western "Murder at Yellowstone City" from writer Eric Belgau and director Richard Gray, of course I did so.
However, I must say that the storyline in the movie was a murder mystery, and not really your archetypical Western movie. Sure, I suppose there will be an audience out there for a murder mystery set against a Western backdrop. I just happened not be that particular audience, as I am not fond of slow paced murder mysteries where little happens and the audience is forced to try to figure it out beforehand the director opts to reveal it.
Yeah, the narrative in "Murder at Yellowstone City" was just too slow paced and uneventful for me, so I didn't enjoy this movie. And I managed to sit through a staggering 59 minutes of pure slow paced nothingness, before I gave up on the movie. Running at 127 minutes, I just saw no reason to continue on with this movie.
Not only was the storyline a swing and a miss in terms of entertaining me, but the character gallery in the movie was incredibly mundane and rather pointless as well. I honestly didn't care one bit about any of the characters that droned about on the screen aimlessly.
"Murder at Yellowstone City" was a swing and a miss movie, and it is not one I am ever returning to finish watching. Sure, I enjoy a proper Western, but this murder mystery just didn't cut it for me.
My rating of "Murder at Yellowstone City" lands on a generous three out of ten stars.

At first it seemed slow, but it picks up about half way through it... not sure why Hollyweird had to chuck in the gay bit and mess up a half decent slow burn mystery. I liked that the movie was not presenting a fake Western narrative, this seemed more real than 99% of shoot-em-ups and I liked that. A decent cookie, with just a few clumps of manufactured bowl movement to satisfy the left.

A western whodunnit? What? Is that a new genre?
Anyway, it wasn't bad, really. Could definitely have been better but still, I watched all the way. The western style scenes were good, if not typical. The saloon, the stables, the church, the grand Montana backdrops. But nothing original. Yet it still works.
The whodunnit? Kept me guessing. I didn't know until the reveal. Was it the best whodunnit? Umm, no. But it still worked.
Did anyone else notice the "Summertime, and the living is easy" riff on the piano ala Westworld? It was obvious yet there was nothing in the credits for it.
It was a decent movie. Enjoy.

Woke fantasy island western for people who live in a utopian bubble and cannot face reality, this isn't a western but a fantasy and a very poor one at that with very bad writing, directing and acting.

Not too shabby at all. Not a fan of TV movies but this was actually quite good and worth a watch and maybe another watch in 5-10yrs time. Good cast here and the acting was on par too. If you like a who done it kinda movie mixed with a western then you'll probably enjoy this one.

My father was a big fan of westerns, and I sat there and watched them with him for many years, and when they went out of style, I actually missed them so whenever I see a western which is rare being made in this decade, I make sure to watch it. This is one of the better ones, no it's not marvel thank God and it is woke to a certain degree but that's just the way things are today, but I really didn't concentrate on that. I concentrated on the acting and the story the actors were very good. The story was multifaceted good love stories in there surprise stories about your characters. I love the preacher but it flowed and believe me I've seen many films streaming today that actually put me to sleep without me knowing it this did not it can hold the title of western proudly I think my father would've liked it.
Despite the famous cast of actors in this film, I struggled with this borefest. The screenplay and direction was pretty bad. Even the cinemotography wasn't remarkable. There are characters that immediately call our attention then does something stupid (I won't mention what) and gets killed within the first 10 minutes. As a western, it might be the worse I've seen.

Any western where everything is clean is all ready for a loss. Overacting left, right and centre.
Bad script, terrible acting, music that doesn't fit, ridiculous casting.... Thomas Jane and others should be ashamed of themselves for being involved in this travesty.
