Did Leonardo DiCaprio earn big from Inception? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Yes, Tom earned the kind of paycheck that turned heads. DiCaprio managed to snag at least $50 million from the hit Christopher Nolan flick. That was just from box office earnings. Add DVD and TV sales into the mix, and Leo’s haul could be much, much bigger.
Back in 2010, Inception was a wild gamble. Nolan’s twisty, dream-heist concept wasn’t exactly a blockbuster sure-shot back then. Warner Bros. was banking $160 million on a film that had zero sequels, zero remakes, and zero cartoon mascots. It was risky—but DiCaprio took a bet on Nolan’s genius and signed a deal that would make him a first-dollar gross player. In simpler terms, he earned money straight off ticket sales, way before studio expenses were even covered. That’s a deal most stars don’t get these days. But DiCaprio was...

Unlike most other survival horror franchises, the Silent Hill games keep fans coming back for more by investing in a certain feeling rather than familiar monsters and recurring characters. Yes, Pyramid Head and the nurses are some of the biggest icons in gaming, but it’s really the series’ unique blend of Nietzschean psychology and moody atmosphere that makes it stand out. That’s why it’s only natural that fans would also search for the same eerie vibes in other media.
And while I’ll admit that there’s nothing out there that feels exactly like the Silent Hill games (even the adaptations can’t quite replicate the surreal solitude of the source material), today I’d like to share a list attempting to answer one of the most common questions asked by new Silent Hill fans: are there any movies that feel like Silent Hill?

Each week we highlight the noteworthy titles that have recently hit streaming platforms in the United States. Check out this week’s selections below and past round-ups here.
Banel & Adama (Ramata-Toulaye Sy)
A directorial debut programmed into the main Cannes competition is typically viewed with suspicion, if not overlooked altogether. Very rare is that lightning-in-a-bottle moment like the arrival of Son of Saul some years back. Typically, the only conversation these debuts generate is the critical debate as to why they’ve been elevated to the top of the pile when there are far more striking debuts buried deeper within the festival. This often means that accomplished films are overlooked and underappreciated by those on the ground, who may be subconsciously comparing a striking feature to the work of more established names it’s competing against for the Palme d’Or, approaching each debut with a “show me” attitude it...

It’s always interesting to see big time directors go against type and into a genre we don’t necessarily associate them with. We have Mount Rushmore type horror directors like John Carpenter and Wes Craven giving us thoughtful entries into their catalogues like Starman and Music of the Heart. On the flip side of that, what happens when a director known for Oscar worthy drama, gangster, and period piece movies goes all in on a scary movie? How did that movie miss out on any major awards nominations even with it being considered prestige horror? How many different adaptations of Denis Lehane’s novel would we get? Take the boat over before the storm hits as we find out what happened to Shutter Island.
Denis Lehane is an American author who began writing in the early 1990s. While he had success with a series of novels with repeating characters early,...

Martin Scorsese is a movie genius, and it shows in his knack for picking the perfect actors for his films. Take Leonardo DiCaprio, for example — one of Hollywood’s biggest stars since the ’90s. When these two teamed up for a suspense thriller that audiences absolutely loved, it was pretty much a match made in cinematic heaven.

Shutter Island is one of those films that still leaves an impact, even more than a decade after its release. It turns out that watching it just once isn’t quite enough. With all the changes over the years, particularly the ongoing conversations about mental health, re-watching this masterpiece can offer a whole new perspective and be a truly transformative experience.

Since 2002, two Hollywood heavyweights have had an illustrious — and productive — working relationship, and cinema as a whole is better off because of it. Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio have been working together for decades now, with DiCaprio playing essential roles in some of Scorsese's best modern films, and what makes their relationship all the more touching is that DiCaprio has publicly revealed that Scorsese's movie "Taxi Driver" served as a major inspiration for his own acting career. Before these two joined forces, it may have felt borderline impossible to imagine that they'd become one of the most tightly-knit Hollywood duos in cinematic history; while DiCaprio was getting his start in projects like "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" and "Titanic," Scorsese was already a directing legend thanks to "Taxi Driver" and other hits like "Mean Streets," "Raging Bull," "Goodfellas," "The Age of Innocence," and "Casino," just to name a few. Thanks...

In the genre of horror gaming, few titles have managed to leave as lasting an impression as Red Barrels’ Outlast (2013). While Alan Wake (2010) had already established a successful formula of blending supernatural elements with meta-narrative storytelling, Outlast‘s creators deliberately chose to take their horror in a completely different direction.

As we reflect on what makes a truly scary game, especially in light of Alan Wake 2‘s recent success with its mind-bending psychological horror, it’s fascinating to revisit writer J.T. Petty’s approach to crafting Outlast‘s narrative. His philosophy on horror storytelling stands in stark contrast to the metaphysical elements that have become increasingly common in modern horror games.
A Different Kind of Horror Story
When Outlast first hit the shelves, it stood out for its commitment to realism in a genre often dominated by supernatural threats and psychological twists.

Leonardo DiCaprio delivered some of the best cinematic works in the history of Hollywood. In turn, Hollywood made DiCaprio famous. But now, the Oscar-winner becomes more recognized for his 25-age-limit rule for dating women and attending Diddy’s White Parties than films like What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? and Shutter Island.

The climax is arguably the most important part of a movie. It is the last thing the audience is left with. Hence, an ending needs to be powerful. How the plot concludes can make or break the film experience. Some endings imprint themselves on the viewers’ minds, while others do not have as much of a lasting impact. Some endings are polarizing. After all, not every cinematic project garners unanimous praise or even acceptance. They leave with controversy in their wake.
Controversial endings lead to some jaws dropping and some brows scrunching. A masterfully curated climax can inspire a plethora of feelings in the audience. Or it can ignite serious disputes, debates, and discussions; which gain a cult following and last for years on end. For instance, Was there enough room on the door for Jack to stay afloat alongside Rose in Titanic might go down as the most debated movie ending of all time.

In the world of fashion and modelling, Gisele Bündchen is a force to be reckoned with. The Brazilian supermodel took the runway world by storm when she debuted in the Alexander McQueen show in 1998. This was definitely a huge feat given that she faced 42 casting rejections before the British fashion designer got her on board. Soon she started walking for major designers and became one of the highest-paid models in no time.

Jackie Earle Haley has over 70 screen acting credits to his name. He was one of the Bad News Bears, he earned an Oscar nomination for his performance in the film Little Children, he played Rorschach in Zack Snyder‘s take on Watchmen. He worked with Steven Spielberg on Lincoln and with Martin Scorsese on Shutter Island. He has dealt with Dollman, the Maniac Cop, and the remake RoboCop, and he played Freddy Krueger in a poorly-received remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. And now, Deadline reports that Haley is set to star in the game show-themed slasher movie I’m Your Host.

A folie a deux is defined as a shared delusion between two people in close association. So maybe the idea that the “Joker” sequel would perform as well as its predecessor was always meant to be suspect.
Over the weekend, “Joker: Folie a Deux” crashed with audiences after finding little support among critics. The Todd Phillips musical drama about the famed Batman villain earned less than $37.8 million at the domestic box office, a far cry from the record-setting $96 million with which the original debuted in 2019. That film grossed a then-record $1.079 billion worldwide, the most money ever for an R-rated release at the time. Now, the expectations are that “Joker: Folie a Deux” might not top $300 million. The project earned a D-grade from ticket buyers on CinemaScore, a service that polls moviegoers about their theatrical experience. Critics, many of whom thought the first film was subpar, eviscerated the sequel too — the...

The rise of spirtualism, mediums, and séances in the 1800s is an endlessly fascinating topic, especially when you consider that, for all of the people that were committing fraud, what if some of them were really contacting the dead? Having read the first issue of Séance in the Asylum, I am very excited to read more, and I was just as thrilled to catch up with Clay McLeod Chapman to talk all about the new series.
The mid-late 1800s are such a fascinating time when it comes to mysticism and the occult. What inspired the idea behind Séance in the Asylum?
I had two guiding lights for Séance in the Asylum. First, I’ve always been a fan of the Fox Sisters. I’m dying to write something for them, about them, some day. I had a feature in development for years and it just fizzled… but I’ve been...

If you loved Little Women, you’ll also probably like Brooklyn as well. The examples are numerous, and we have plenty to pick from, which is what this report is all about.
This one is going to be focused on Antony Starr, who is best known for playing Homelander in Amazon’s The Boys, but who also has another series that is similarly dark and disturbing, a series that you will most likely love, and a series that the fans are (re)discovering right now.
And while the series in question is not a superhero or a fantasy series – it is a crime drama – it is dark, at times disturbing, and it is very in line with The Boys in several aspects.

Spooky season is nearly here.
And Peacock, Universal’s direct-to-consumer streaming platform, has just unveiled its Halloween programming line-up, full of tricks and treats from the studio’s back catalog, as well as two new series (“Teacup” and “Hysteria!”) for some fresh scares.
In 2022 and ’23, there was at least one big Blumhouse movie that simultaneously debuted on Peacock — in ’22, it was David Gordon Green’s trilogy-capping “Halloween Ends” and last year, it was the video game adaptation “Five Nights at Freddy’s”. This year doesn’t have anything quite like that, but it’s still a powerful collection of titles for every viewer.
The Sept. 1 batch includes classics like “Bride of Frankenstein,” “It Came From Outer Space” and “Werewolf of London;” 1980s favorites like “Halloween III: Season of the Witch,” “The Funhouse” and “The Thing;” along with more modern hits like the original “Candyman,” Jordan Peele’s “Us” and several entries in the “Saw” franchise.

There’s barely any actor in the entertainment industry who would sell their soul to Lord Voldemort to get an endorsement from an acclaimed filmmaker like Martin Scorsese. But when it came to the Harry Potter star Rupert Grint, he apparently received the director’s alleged praise out of nowhere, back in 2010.

Writing on Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island in 2010, Anthony Lane whipped a quote from Umberto Eco: “Two cliches make us laugh but a hundred clichés move us, because we sense dimly that the clichés are talking among themselves, celebrating a reunion.” Eco’s words resonate even stronger in Christmas Eve at Miller’s Point, a fascinating simulacrum of festive movies in which references to annual favorites are thrust together with about as much delicacy as the family it tenderly depicts. The island isn’t Shutter but Long, specifically a small town in Suffolk County where we meet four generations of the Bolsanos, a blue-collar family going through the motions and rituals of their annual get-together, adoring and enduring each other as best they can in what might be their last year in the family home. The filmmaker behind this delicate, strange, reflective bauble is Tyler Taormina, co-founder of the...

Back in 1922 Campton Manor was the scene of an unexplained mass death, twenty-eight guests at a New Year’s party died of heart attacks at the same time. There was no trace of poison, and the case was never solved. The mansion has, needless to say, sat empty ever since.
Decades later, the film seems to be set in the 1950s, Teddy is a detective and a horror novelist. He’s helped in both of these careers by his ability to see, and talk to, the dead. Right now he’s more concerned with Jack. Despite his secretary’s best efforts, Jack keeps turning up in his office talking about Campton Manor, in fact he’s rather insistent that Teddy investigate it.
After getting an invitation to that fateful party, Ted thinks Jack sent it,...

Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese have collaborated on a number of projects together as actor and director. Beginning their partnership with Gangs of New York, the duo went on to work on films such as The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and the recent Killers of the Flower Moon. The duo are also rumored to collaborate again on a Frank Sinatra biopic.
While the two have worked together on many projects, they have also developed projects that have never seen the light of day. One of those was apparently a biographical drama on Alexander, The Great. The two never got to make it, but the duo may have no regrets about it as Colin Farrell’s version of the film ended up almost costing the actor his career.

Leonardo DiCaprio is attached to play Frank Sinatra in a new biopic from Martin Scorsese.
Variety broke news of the project on Wednesday, while also noting that Jennifer Lawrence is in line to play Sinatra’s second wife, actress Ava Gardner. Not surprisingly, the film is reportedly drawing major interest from studios, including Sony and Apple, but must still receive approval from Sinatra’s daughter, Tina, who controls her late father’s estate.
The project would mark the seventh collaboration between DiCaprio and Scorsese, following Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and last year’s Killers of the Flower Moon.
Scorsese hopes to begin production on the Sinatra biopic immediately after he finishes a film about Jesus Christ, which is set to begin shooting later this year. Andrew Garfield and Miles Teller are among the actors being courted for the Jesus film,...
