Ben Stiller and Adam Scott will host a Severance companion podcast for the Apple thriller’s second season.

“The Severance Podcast with Ben Stiller and Adam Scott is an episode-by-episode, behind-the-scenes breakdown of the award-winning show, conducted with the creators, cast, crew and fans,” per a release.

Stiller, a director and executive producer for the show, will join Scott, star and executive producer, in rewatching season one of the show and sharing “in-depth, never-before-heard analysis” before offering weekly insight as season two releases in early 2025.

“We have severed ourselves from the world for five years making this show,” Stiller and Scott said in a statement. “While we have no memory of what happened during that time, we thought we should do a podcast for all the Innies who will have no recollection of watching, in an attempt to reintegrate them with their memory of the show.”

When “Severance” returns for Season 2 on Jan. 17, its mysteries and cliffhangers will surely leave fans with plenty of burning questions. Enter “The Severance Podcast With Ben Stiller and Adam Scott,” a companion podcast to the sci-fi series that will provide analysis and weekly insights from the show’s star and director.

The podcast will launch with two episodes focused on Season 1 of “Severance” on Jan. 7. The following Season 1 episodes will be released daily on weekdays through Jan. 16, before the podcast begins to cover Season 2 when it premieres on Apple TV+ on Jan. 17. New episodes will be released weekly on Fridays throughout Season 2 of “Severance.”

Apple TV+ is definitely not the only champion of sci-fi today, but its popular shows Foundation and Silo are great examples of two new directions the genre seems to be moving in.

A new report from Bloomberg indicates that Apple TV+ is thinking about licensing its movies in some countries around the world, allowing them to be rented or purchased through third-party outlets for the first time.

The actor talked about his comedy career and how that got him typecast in a particular type of role, one that the actor was fed up with taking again and again. However, with Severance, and thanks in part to the black comedy drama Big Little Lies, the actor has finally been able to break out into a genre where he is not pigeonholed.

Adam Scott found that there was a surplus of comedy roles on his table, most of which did not have anything fresh to offer.

Since its inception, more than anything, Apple TV+ has excelled at genre television, especially in the sci-fi space. The sheer number of science fiction shows that populate the relatively small service is frankly overwhelming. Yet the best of those shows has somewhat flown under the radar. “Silo” premiered last year to acclaim, if not the deafening noise that followed something like “Severance.” Created by the great Graham Yost (“Justified”) and starring Rebecca Ferguson, the show’s mystery-box approach to a future society kept viewers like me compelled over the course of its ten-episode first season.

Like that one show said, winter is coming — and with winter comes a whole lot of new TV.

In Hollywood, winter means people are more likely to stay in and tune in than to brave the elements and ignore their watchlists. It’s a time for cozying up with cozy comfort shows like “Based on a True Story” and “Squid Game” and “Severance” (we’re not here to judge what comforts you). Movie stars like Colman Domingo, Keira Knightley, and Michael Fassbender all have small screen projects debuting over the next few months, along with TV favorites like Lisa Kudrow, Ray Romano, Zosia Mamet, Leo Woodall, and character actress Margo Martindale. Highly-anticipated shows will return after long breaks, along with quirky new titles sure to draw viewers, whether that’s the action adventure in “Creature Commandos,” warped romance of “Laid,” or sweet comfort of “Xo, Kitty.”

For the third consecutive year, Amazon’s Prime Video has outranked its competitors as the most-used streaming service in the United States, according to a report released by Parks Associates on Tuesday.

The report is part of the research firm’s Streaming Video Tracker, which will be detailed at the company’s Future of Video conference in Southern California later this month.

Prime Video has topped Parks Associates’ report of the most-used streaming service since 2022, when it leapfrogged former first place contender Netflix, which has been in second place ever since. This year, Disney took third place, a title previously held by its general entertainment service Hulu, which slipped to fourth place. Comcast-owned Peacock came in fifth place.

This week, the hit science fiction series Silo returns on Apple TV+. Based on the book series by Hugh Howey, Silo tells the story of the last 10,000 people alive on a desolate future Earth, who live in a massive underground bunker; the titular Silo.

But are they really the last people? That question looms large as Silo kicks off its second season. The first season ended with sheriff Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) leaving the Silo to see what lies above ground. Thanks to improvements in her environment suit, she's actually able to leave her old home behind. But what she finds on the surface isn't what she expects. Although the powers that be in the Silo told a lot of lies, it turns out the surface actually is a hellscape that can't support human life.

The first season ended with a wide shot that revealed the existence of other Silos.

Ben Stiller stars as the strait-laced, workaholic uncle and temporary guardian to four rowdy kids in the upcoming Christmas comedy Nutcrackers, slated to release Nov. 29.

In the David Gordon Green-directed comedy, which will be available to stream on Hulu, Christmas is less than three weeks away and Mike, played by Stiller, attempts to ready the kiddos for a new foster home. In the meantime, the kids wreak havoc: they hot wire a carnival ride, drive a golf cart into a swimming pool, and harvest the family chicken Elisabeth for a farm-fresh meal.

Last week, Donald Trump won the presidential election against Kamala Harris, and in January will be installed as the next president of the United States, returning to the White House after four years away. Trump is easily the most divisive figure to come along in American politics — maybe global politics — in decades, and I was firmly in the camp that was hoping he would lose the election.

Obviously I'm hoping for the best out his presidency, but in the days after the results came in, the main thing I was feeling was afraid. I'm afraid that Trump will tank the country's economy by, among other things, imposing new tariffs on foreign goods, driving up inflation just as the country had gotten it under control following the post-pandemic boom. I'm afraid he's going to decimate public goods by, for example, eliminating the Department of Education, making it harder to raise families...

For some fans of genre storytelling, 2024 has been a bit of a disappointing year. The Boys season 4 didn't over with fans quite as well as past installments, the House of the Dragon showrunners are feuding publicly with George R.R. Martin, and the latest Star Wars content from Disney+ — The Acolyte — was extremely divisive among fans. Since these were some of the most highly anticipated and high-budget genre series of the year, it has left many fans of genre storytelling feeling a bit morose. There have been bright spots: the historical fiction series Shogun crushed it at the Emmy’s and I personally am really enjoying the return of The Legend of Vox Machina. But whether because of last year’s acting and writer’s strikes or because new seasons of shows are taking longer than ever to reach our screens, 2024 is definitely not the year that it could have been.

Upon its arrival, Severance became one of Apple’s most acclaimed TV shows, thanks to the impeccable cast, which involved the likes of Adam Scott, Britt Lower, and Zach Cherry. But it was the chemistry between John Turturro’s Irvin and Christopher Walken’s Burt that elevated the series to the next level, which ended up scoring 14 Emmy nods.

As for Walken’s casting in the show as Turturro’s romantic interest, the latter, who shares a long working history with the actor, served a key role in getting The Deer Hunter star the gig of Burt.

While the role of Burt isn’t something one would usually associate with Christopher Walken, who is notable for playing dangerous characters throughout his career, John Turturro felt he was the right man for the job.

Science fiction, drama, and psychological thriller are often genres that attract a wide range of audiences due to their mind-bending nature. However, Apple TV+’s television series, Severance, takes these elements to a whole new level. Since Netflix shook up the film and series world, tons of other streaming options have popped up. Over time, they’ve all developed their own original content, which has helped each platform stand out. The problem is that Apple TV+ seems to have dropped the ball here. Sure, creating original shows is great, but they still need to be promoted.

Even so, Apple’s streaming service is still seen by a lot of movie buffs as one of the best — if not the best — when it comes to quality. Their series even outshine many of Netflix’s big hits, yet hardly anyone knows about them. These are shows that definitely deserve more public recognition.

The two streaming services are normally very tight-lipped about their finances, but Parrot Analytics has data on how the two prospered after recent changes.

There’s no doubt that price increases and the introduction of ads to formerly ad-free streaming plans are going to make for a few unhappy customers. Apple TV+ and Prime Video certainly know this; the former raised its price by 43% last October, and the latter forced all customers to either accept ads in their existing subscription or pay an extra $3 per month to return to ad-free in January. New data from Parrot Analytics shows that however many customer defections those moves may have caused, they have proven to be solid financial decisions for the two streamers.

Key Details: Apple TV+ saw a 33% revenue jump in the United States the quarter after raising prices last year. Prime Video enjoyed almost a 20% revenue climb after the introduction of ads.

The mystery drama’s excellent cast make it much watch TV for sci-fi fans.

The second season of “Silo” continues to be a top-notch mystery-box show — pulling you down a rabbit hole of partial discoveries each week, unwrapping tidbits of truth in search of answers. While the first season on Apple TV+ was spent exploring a mysterious underground bunker and its 10,000 inhabitants, the new 10-episode season, premiering on Friday, Nov. 15, begins with the Season 1 finale cliffhanger and balloons into something much bigger. Although the mystery grows with the widening story, it’s clear that “Silo” is fully capable of moving forward through the onion layers at a steady pace, with satisfying results along the way.

The psychological thriller television series “Severance” will return with its second season on Apple TV+. A newly released teaser trailer gives viewers a glimpse at how the show will continue exploring its fascinating premise. In the show, employees can undergo a procedure called “severance” that divides their consciousness between work and personal lives.

Last season left fans on the edge of their seats as the main characters began questioning their mysterious roles at Lumon Industries. Following their acts of rebellion, severe consequences now await them. The trailer hints that their office has completely changed with new co-workers. Additionally, the main character Mark discovers unsettling new information about his supposedly deceased wife.

Viewers are also reintroduced to the unsettling celebrations orchestrated by Lumon supervisor Mr. Milchick. In one scene, Milchick grins while carrying balloons with Mark’s face. These forced celebrations seem cheerful but represent the company’s control over employees.

THR reports that Apple is developing a new movie based on the popular video game with Will Speck and Josh Gordan attached to direct and produce.

In an interview with Variety, Turturro reveals that he declined to reprise his film role as Gotham City mob boss Carmine Falcone for the HBO series. “I did what I wanted to with the role,” Turturro said. “In the show, there was a lot of violence towards women, and that’s not my thing.”

In the 2022 film, Falcone is implied to be a serial killer of women, but the violence largely happens off-screen. “It’s scarier that way,” Turturro said. In the film as well as in the show, Falcone is depicted as an icy criminal whose calm demeanor masks a cruel streak and a willingness to commit and order others to commit acts of violence, including abusing his daughter Sofia (Cristin Milioti) at Arkham Asylum.
