While overall I wouldn't recommend this too highly I will say that it was entertaining. My only complaint is that he dwells on some jokes for too long.

Ronny uses his hyper style of humor to talk about political issues and everyday situations. Known for his roles in Crazy Rich Asians and The Daily Show, Chieng brings his overall witty takes on America as a whole.
In the world of Burr, Jim Jeffries, Chappelle, Gervais, and a few others... it seems difficult to standout in the comic world. I'll also admit that I haven't paid much attention to The Daily Show since Jon Stewart left. It just hasn't been as funny and the correspondents always seem like bottom of the barrel including the random segments I've seen with Ronny.
There was a clip of this special floating around online that delayed my viewing of this special. The clip taken out of context definitely made it seem not funny... terrible choice for the person that put that clip out. With that being said, going in to this special I completely expected to get bored and turn it off.
This set is hilarious. I found myself laughing at multiple parts throughout. Being a white guy, I didn't expect for any of the Asian perspective humor to land. Having an Asian fiance along with future in-laws... oh my gah, did some of those jokes land.
The jokes are good but it was clear that Ronny is an excellent storyteller too. For the most part, Ronny is being honest in this special. I think it helps that he has lived in a few different countries.
I'll be paying attention and I'll look forward to what this guy does in the future.

As a hardcore Ronny Chieng's fan, I've seen some of the jokes before in his past shows here and there. But most of the stuff are new materials and kudos to the sharp accurate yet sarcastic spin on politics, Asian identity and America.
I chuckled a few times but not as much as I'd hoped fairly basic level of comedy good background television but not the most riveting to watch or to have you anywhere near falling out your seat with laughter.

Made me feel Red White and Blue all over in the traditional sense of laughing at our failings while seeing them as an opportunity to do oh so much better! I'd like to think that I would have held that subway door for him but suspect that while I am just not that American I am grateful that another is! Please keep us laughing and thinking!
This is similar to his other work, but than with some cursing/edginess. It is mostly pointing fingers and the "do you know this" humor for some quick laughs.
I had hoped with this title, that Ronny Chieng would talk deeper into topics of the Asian community in America. The Asian community is of course doing numbers wise great (Financially/Educationally), but what are their deeper struggles.
It felt that the amount of praising the Asian community only did a disservice. Giving a wrong image of how diverse and different they actually are. Every Asian is just a human being, not a superhero. (Except of maybe Bruce Lee) If otherwise Ronny Chieng was right Asia would be a place filled with people passionate about life and didn't have any discrimination on ethnicity, gender and religion.
Maybe Ronny Chieng didn't want to tackle the deeper conversations, because he wanted the Asian community to gain some face... I could get some laughs out of it, but overall it was quite a forgettable experience.
P.s. Just like everyone else here this is my first imdb review lol

I was in tears laughing quite a few times. One of the funniest Netflix specials to come out in a while.

It was a funny show to watch. There is a different perspective on some issues, something that is required.
I had never heard of this comedian before, and just stick it on as something to watch with dinner. Found it absolutely hilarious, as did my parents that were visiting. We're not from the states, but still found the material really entertaining.
Definitely recommend, and I'll need to find some of his other stuff online.

Maybe Americans find different things funny to Europeans, but this was hard to sit through.
In this standup, Ronny mentions a topic in a very "do you know this thing about americans?" Yet the audience applauds, when no joke has been made. Ronny continues to make the most lazy observations about the same things over and over.
Then follows a dragged out repeating of the same joke. It isn't funny to hear "Americans = Lazy" over and over and over again, yet the audience laughs at every cue to laugh. It honestly comes off dishonest and seems fake, but maybe Americans find anything hilarious as long as they are mentioned.
It's not quick-witted, it's not particularly observational, and it certainly isn't fitting it's "cynical"-tag. Do better.

I am soooo ready for the Susans and other snowflakes when they decide to be offended 😅😅😅😅
Superb set. Fresh and good! Give me more

The second of my double feature the other day was this new comedy special from Ronny Chieng, the Chinese-Malaysian stand-up comic. I had seen that it dropped, but it didn't really register since I didn't know much about him, other than he was in "Crazy Rich Asians" and played a supremely unlikeable character (my least favorite from the books). After watching "American Factory" and an investigation about what happens when Chinese and American cultures bump up against each other, this was a nice and light (and interesting) segue, with hilarious observations and jokes about his experience as an Asian comedian in America and how different it is over here than in the states. Worth your time to check out, and another in a fairly long line of really funny comedy specials on Netflix.
I didn't know Ronny Chieng before I saw this tv-speciel on my IPad 10.000 meters up in the air! It made my flight both fun and seemingly shorter! I didn't snoor but definetely laughed out loud a couple of times. His comedy-range is wide, and he is just very very funny, thats it!
Nice to see something/someone new on the comedy stage - I'm now a fan and will find out more about this funny f... - Ronny Chieng a future comedy star!

I really enjoyed the part about the doctor, the dietary restrictions and the subway.

When he was in Australia he was funny. Maybe this material was designed for the USA, but it was bland and, at best, mildly amusing in places.

Absolutely awful, I barely cracked a smile let alone laughed. Absolutely get the excesses in America- funny but trying to judge between blacks & whites, Really? Too deep ....
I seen some people rate a 1/10 and then I see like only 6/56 ppl or 3/29 ppl agree with them lol. They got so offended but why? Its comedy and in this day and age if you can't keep an open mind & not get butt hurt so easily then you shouldn't watch standup comedy shows because 80% of them out their will say offensive stuff that should be taken light heartedly.
Theirs always gonna be 1 or 2 groups of ppl who get offended when standup comedy shows are done lol. These same ppl who are offended would have no problem if the jokes was about anyone other then themselves so its just hypocrisy at work.
I never heard of this comedian but It was very funny & interesting to see an asian comedian which I had very low expectations of since funny is not something that comes to mind firstly or secondly when you think of someone asian. The tone he kept telling his jokes in was hilarious & his deliveries matched his personality very well. I hope they make more of these of him for Netflix.

I find Ronny okay most of the time but I was very surprised by this piece and it really moved me. As in my family played it on TV and I got up and moved out of the room after 5 minutes.

I've been a fan well before he came to the US.
I was excited to see he got a special, but man it was disappointing.
It felt as if the material was rushed and honestly, a lot of corny stuff in there.
Still some good material here and there, but it was hard to watch especially when he would drag out a joke for way too long.... it just got annoying.
If you liked it, great. I would look up his older stuff and you'll enjoy that a lot more.
Looking forward to the next one Ronny.

He spends 20 minutes on a subject and beats that subject like beating a dead horse.
I went in thinking this maybe decent. But it wasn't.
An opening joke, is about how Netflix is losing subscribers by the second, so he has to get started fast before the user quits out.
I can see why we quit out.
Boring.

Ronny, terrible material. Please put a little more effort to try to be funny. Malaysian's are getting a bad image of being lazy and unfunny.
