According to director Christian Sesma, he was so intent on casting Val Kilmer, who had lost his voice to throat cancer, and still so confident in the performance Kilmer would bring to the production that he agreed to have Kilmer's character voiced by another actor.
This is the third time Luke Goss and Val Kilmer are acting together. They previously starred together in Blood Out (2011) and 7 Below (2012).
