Stylized direction and dialogues may not be everybody's cup of tea.
The show takes up very real, not-so-pleasant-to-digest topics affecting sections of the American society and gives it a stylized spin to make it less dark and easier to watch. Almost has the feel of a theatrical production. Towards this end, there is sporadic dancing and singing, spoken word poetry (very reminiscent of the style of 2020 AGT winner Brandon Leake); a good amount of animated, loud, unnatural, verbose dialogues; over-the-top characters, and so on. The show gets full marks for attempting something new, but that comes with the risk of not pleasing everyone. As evidenced by the all-over-the-place ratings on IMDb. The acting is good across the cast. The main lead is great. Helen Hunt does a great job, and is a pleasure to watch. To the reviewer who had a problem with her face, I want to say to them, it is called aging; there is no escaping it. We don't want the starts we have enjoyed watching over the years to hide, so let's welcome them into non-typecast roles for older stars in order to keep enjoying their talent.
First episode was good
Not bad. Refreshing for Starz. Love watching things with POC but I hate when it's street thuggish ghetto stuff. We need more shows with upscale people of color and less shows of this. I get it tho. There is a great portion of us that live this life, but so do many whites. Great show though.

Easy to watch and great for fans of the movie!
I wanted to watch awhile ago just usually don't have access to STARZ once in blue moon it's a solid service. Kinda surprised this isn't higher than 6.6 on IMDb but I guess that's pretty good. Thoroughly entertaining series may not for everyone fairly provocative, vulgar, goofy, more moving crew greatness, and I love the cast in every episode! I'm glad I got into Blindspotting I've been kinda out of shows to choose from recently. I'm not sure if I like the movie or show more but I very much enjoyed Daveed Digs, the Ebonics and the directing in both. I would recommend this to anyone I'm quite satisfied!

A real show about the town! Oaktown that is...
If you've not from the Bay Area or never even been to Oakland, then you will not get this show. And no, I'm not talking about Berkeley, or even Alameda County, I'm talkin' bout' the Town! The birthplace of the hyphy movement, that West coast pimp game, west coast spoken word, The Black panthers, and so much influential black culture, it's impossible to lay out in this post. The negative reviews are astonishing to me. Theshow is weird, just like the town of Oakland, which is what makes it so on point to the follow-up from the movie. If you don't know anything the Town, W. Kamau Bell has a good episode on United Shades of America. Please bring this show back for more seasons. And if you have never seen Rafel Casal do his spoken word, that is something you definitely need to check out!

Interesting show
I was told about this show from a friend of mine and wanted to check it out. I'm definitely into it, but the random scene of dancing are weird and I feel completely unnecessary. They take over the show and every-time they come on I'm like WTF and I skip past it. I like the messages conveyed for sure.

Work in progress, still enjoyable
A five star rating may seem low, but seems fitting compared to some of the Starz' greats. The plot and setting of this series are a nice change to the norm of new tv series. I enjoyed the acting and storyline while the characters are actually... in character/dialogue. While I can appreciate a poetic and cultural dance theme, it definitely seems forced and out of place for this particular series. Stick to the main plot, add some more drama and conflict, and this show may have more promise.

Absolutely Phenomenal.
2021 - Everything about this show is amazing! I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, and this show lives up to, if not exceeds that, by a million. Excellent pilot. Emmy award-winning actress Jasmine Cephas Jones and this entire cast are so perfectly chosen. The minds of Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs are seriously put into play with this show, creating such a unique piece of art that we dont get to see often in Hollywood. With just the right amount of comedy and drama, verse and choreography, and hella town refrence, I can tell this series is gonna be good. Bringing the Bay to our screens in the best way possible.
EDIT - 2023: Just watched the first two episodes of the second season. BLINDSPOTTING traverses the realm of television once again. From the movement artistry to the powerful verse and dialogue, this show is truly a love letter to Oakland and continues to outdo itself by being a work so unique and never seen before.

Exactly What Is This?
A very underrated show
I thought it was gonna be meh. But I've really enjoyed it so far. Glad there's a lot of other aspects to the show than just being serious. The entire cast is awesome. Overall I'm hoping for a season 2.

One of the worst shows I ever seen.
I'm black and the previews looked like something I would enjoy, plus I like the movie.... This show is so beyond horrible, the sisters acting is WAYYY over the top and the plot is weak if at all existing. Weird dancing out of no where. They are trying too hard to make this show like cultural and artsy but it falls flat on its face.... The only reason I watched the whole first season is because I think the main character is really cute... all of these reviews praising it have to be people paid by the marketing team, cause there is NOWAY someone can watch this show and give it 10/10, especially the amount of people doing it.

Different and I love it for that reason
This show definitely has a different sense of humor. The sooner folks realize that there are people all over having completely different experiences than them they will be able to appreciate shows like this a little more. For those of us with similar shared experiences, we get it, and it's funny and it's done in a stylish and impactful manner. All of the characters are unique, funny and enjoyable to watch. I'm excited to see their character development and how they grow together as a family. Here is a harsh reality for some, this is not for everybody. If this is not your humor go watch reruns of Seinfeld or Friends. The rest of us are ready for something we find funny and that we get.

This is truly something different that I don't know if I would've enjoyed but everyone is talented and the writers are amazing! They have made something so fun and different that leaves you wanting more, and I do want more! Great show, props to everyone who was apart of it!

THE WORST! Cancel this show NOWWWW
I honestly think this show is weird and cringe .. I couldn't stop cringing , I watched the first episode and hated it but I didn't want to judge it so quick so I pushed through to finish the season and it was awful .. I don't know if it was the casting or maybe they tried to rush the show or they had no idea what they wanted to do for the show but it's not good I would give it 0 stars if I could , I don't think this show should go on for any more seasons ...

Very ahead of it's time...
At least that's the way I see it. I grew up in the SF Bay Area with the diversified culture, and so I guess this is a little biased, but perhaps if they did a behind the scenes, it would be more appealing to those who don't catch on. This is the first show I've seen of it's sort, and I really love the way it's all put together. It touches on a handful of different emotions, as well as topics, and for me, so far, I have been thoroughly entertained. I really hope more people grow to understand it, as it really is a great show, kudos to all the people involved in it's creation.
Not good as the movie

ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS!!
From the acting to the storyline to the spoken word to the dancing... I love everything about this series!! When Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal have created is a beautiful work of art and something that I've never seen before. Extending the story from the film and making Ashley the lead character was a great choice. Jasmine Cephas Jones is AMAZING and I'm so happy the world gets to see her beautiful talent shine in this role. What this show represents on screen and behind the scenes is so important. As someone who's been a fan of Jasmine, Daveed, and Rafael for the past few years, I'm so excited for this journey and so happy for them and everyone involved!!

Terrible Show
This show is absolutely terrible, zero plot, dancing out of nowhere for no reason at all. After 2 episodes still no idea what is going on.....
This show...
This show is different than anything I've ever seen and I'm here for it!! All the actors are amazing! The characters are compelling and the humor is very well done. I love seeing different cities represented in the media and Oakland just looks so amazing through this shows eyes that makes you want more, hell I'm craving more and I only watched the first episode that was thirty minutes long. This show is definitely different in all the best ways possible, seriously give it a chance, there's more to come and I know they'll bring the heat!

Brilliant
This show is landmark show that has the potential to be the generation defining story. A very relatable narrative, told through acting, rapping, spoken word and interpretive dance, ALL of which is done at a WORLD CLASS level. There's also dozens and dozens of Bay Area Easter Eggs, which gives the show a different aspect of enjoyability if you're from / familiar with The Area. Few shows manage to be brilliant at any one thing. This one has been brilliant in EVERYTHING it has done. I am blown away.

Oh hell no
Trying way to hard. Typical fantasy land story. Why do they always cheap out on writing. Sad that this garbage never ends and yet people put up with it cause its better then nothing.
I mean really its like hiring me to write something. Come on.

This show is amazing!
From the creative storytelling to the spoken word solos and fantastic dance scenes, this show has it all! I stumbled on this show with no warning on plot line. Two episodes in I was hooked! I don't usually write reviews so this is short, but I honestly admire this show and the layers of art presented each episode.
The characters are real life and relatable. The stress of jail and what it does to families. The culture of multiple races all intersecting. Multigenerational families. Add to it a very well written script and some serious actors. This all blends with dream sequences and some of the most beautiful dance on film. Give it a try.

Eh!
Tried watching this while I waited for the paint in my new apartment to dry. I was more intrigue by what Helen Hunt did to destroy her face than the plot of this cliche ridden pedestrian show!
On the bright side, my apartment looks great!
