“Squid Game” star Park Hae-soo is set to star in the Korean adaptation of the popular Spanish series “Money Heist (La Casa de Papel),” Netflix announced on Tuesday.
Park is set to play Andrés “Berlin” de Fonollosa, one of the drama’s main characters. The news of his casting hits as the original series approaches the conclusion of its five-year run on Dec. 3, and as the streamer revealed that Berlin is set to appear in an origin story spin-off scheduled for 2023.
Berlin is played by Spain’s Pedro Alonso in the original. Park is the first cast member of the Korean version to be announced.
“In the past five years, fans around the world have shown their love for the series. I hope our Korean version also receives your love and support,” said Park in a Korean video message, dressed in a dapper suit and holding one of the show’s signature heist masks.

Netflix is adapting a popular Korean zombie apocalypse webtoon into an original series, Deadline reported on Monday. The show, tentatively titled All Of Us Are Dead, constitutes one of several Korean language productions the streaming giant had ordered back in September.
Based on the webtoon Now At Our School, Netflix’s All Of Us Are Dead will follow a band of teenagers trapped inside their high school facility while a zombie-like disease begins to spread rapidly among the student body. The webtoon – a kind of digitally published comic strip unique to Korean markets – has received critical and commercial acclaim throughout the country. More recently, it’s also done well in Indonesia, Thailand and Taiwan, where the genre is growing in popularity.
All Of Us Are Dead will be written by Chun Sung-il, who’s penned a number of successful Korean films including 2014’s The Pirates, as well as some television...

Fear of the spread of the coronavirus that is sweeping China has begun to contaminate the film industry in South Korea.
Box office between Friday and Sunday dropped by 70% compared to last week’s 4-day holiday weekend and by 30% compared with the weekend before that. Though the virus may only be partly responsible.
“We suppose that it is partly due to the coronavirus threat, while at this point it is more because few new films were released last week,” a Megabox spokesperson told Variety. South Korea has 15 recorded cases of coronavirus and no fatalities.
Leading exhibitor, Cgv has temporarily closed a few complexes that were visited by two people known to have been infected by the virus. CineQ has also shut down a branch.
