Selfie King is a type of movie that is rarely made in Nepal. With all the colorful shallow movies in theaters nowadays, this is a breath of fresh air.
The movie is about a three day journey of a comedian to a remote village for a performance in an event.
The movie succeeds in aspects of storytelling and the performance given by the lead actor is highly commendable. The movie also provides social commentary that highlights many problems faced by the citizens in Nepal. This was tastefully done without being ham-fisted into audiences throats.
While the movie succeeded in many aspects it had a lot of pacing problems. There were lots of scenes that I felt dragged on for a bit too long. The first half of the movie was full of these issues while the second half lacked a bit of resolution. I felt that the characters introduced in the first half should have had some development in the second half. If their stories were not going anywhere, why establish them in the first place?
Overall, I enjoyed the movie. The second half more than the first. This movie is not for everyone. If you like character driven stories, you'll like it.
I'll give it a light 7/10.
Outstanding performance by our beloved actor Mr. Bipin Karki sir and other amazing artists too. I am really impressed by the direction style of the director Mr. Bishal Sapkota sir. The sub text kept in the movies are shown beautifully. What I felt missing: The flow in the movie. Otherwise, it has great screen playing and cinematography.

What worked:
We cannot overlook the phenomenal performance of Bipin, a one man stand out performance, and maybe one of the finest performances in the recent times in Nepali movie industry. As usual, he stood tall and braid in his portrayal of his layered character. Also praise goes to Bishal. I am pleasantly surprised and impressed by his directorial project. It's finely written screenplay and was brilliantly executed by the whole team. Another aspect is the cinematography that stays apart and wins us with a beautifully captured scenes. I was very impressed by the long shots that were meant to capture the mood and climate of the movie. It's rarely done in Nepali movies but this one did it and did it right. This movie deserves applaud and praise for its overall project, making it a very strong movie overall
What did not work:
If I were to prepare the screenplay I would have edited some minor details to enhance the quality. Regardless, it's still a very well written work.
Final verdict: highly recommended
