So I was really into this movie. It has great character development and the script is pretty tight. The main character is very likeable and you really want to see her succeed. However the movie forced itself into a drama around the 75% mark. I'm conflicted because while 'I enjoyed the first half I thought the second half was really contrived and somewhat ...confusing. I don't usually write reviews but I saw how few there were and thought I should add one.
Ultimately the film is really enjoyable if you like the subject and plot. I can see this being a 7 or an 8 for some people easily. However for me I was disappointed with the mishmash of characters and the blatant use of irony towards the end. I still think this movie is worth seeing though. I think the writer has talent but they need to make sure they don't grab too many strings tying up loose ends.(?).
Just don't watch it if your hungry because they are in an Asian restaurant a lot of the time!!!!

I was so unimpressed with the opening 5 minutes I was ready to turn it off. Eventually the story got better and I was in. The story has a lot potential to really grab the audience. But its cast and camera work are very raw and you just don't get immersed into it 100$%
Good job for a budget movie I suppose but I think a better cast and production would have made this movie an 8.

I thought the main character over acted with being hard and the brother did to! But it was a pretty good film! A little more acting training and it would have been a 9!

I really wanted to like this film as it had a lot of potential but ultimately it failed on all fronts. The leading actress' performance was wooden to say the least, terrible dialogue, stilted editing and poor choice of camera angles. The plot falls apart after the first third of the movie and at the end, I was left wondering "Really?" Is that the best they could have come up with?"

Looked so cheap. Seen better visuals shot on a phone. Either overly lit or colour corrected to hell. Just visual vomit. Was boring too. Tried to give it a chance but life is too short to waste on pointless drivel.
I LOVE this movie! The main actress/writer is a revelation! The whole cast is so tight you wonder why you haven't seen more of these faces. The first half hour flies by at a clip, great soundtrack, great performances, great direction, great writing. Can't wait to see more from these creators!

Didn't expect much from this movie but I really liked it. Great story and acting. Also some really beautiful and touching scenes.
This film an exploration into what one would do for your family and how far one would go to ensure there happiness. The cast has wonderful chemistry and the fact they could shoot the film on a next to nothing budget and make it look as good as it did is nothing g short of amazing. I really enjoyed this film and would definitely recommend it as a "must watch" to my friends and family.
I've used IMD for about 10 years now, I think this is the first written review i've done... this is a great movie all around...must see... I watch hundreds of movies a year, most are trash, I just skip though them, never thought once of skipping any part in this movie...

The awards for this movie came in during the Covid virus. It was a good time to submit since there weren't that many films being made during that time. The movie is mediocre, with lots of slow boring scenes. The fact that the young Chinese girl could just basically dictate her plan to sell drugs doesn't say much about the so-called gangsters.
Also, someone should explain to this director, who seems to think (that's because he loves the way the numbers look) that every time he's nominated for a project, he gets to submit both the win and the nomination. As you can see, his page shows 54 wins and 54 nominations; it's supposed to be either or, not both. Someone who is nominated for an Oscar doesn't get the nomination and the win. They have to wait for the results, and then it is posted to their account accordingly.
