The car in the opening scene, a 1968 Plymouth Fury, was pushed off of a cliff into a quarry. Somehow, when it landed at the bottom, it survived completely intact. One headlight went out, but the filmmakers could find no other significant damage.
The scene in which Bansley pulls the spear from her leg was shot in just over 20 minutes and almost completely improvised. Atcress Iris Mcquillan-Grace found the simulated blood so disgusting that she actually threw up.
Banshee meaning: Old Irish "ben side" meaning 'fairy woman'. The term is used of a supernatural being in both Ireland and the Scottish Highlands. The banshee wails near a house as a warning that a member of the household is about to die. Not every family has the dubious privilege of a forewarning from a banshee. Some clans are visited by a bird, while others are warned by breaking mirrors, falling pictures, and fires that refuse to burn properly.
While principal photography took place during the month of August, the shot of the car going off the cliff in the opening scene wasn't filmed until November. The near 25 degree weather resulted in a blow torch being brought in to defrost the car windows.
Iris McQuillan-Grace was originally cast as Veronica and Ashley Bates as Kerry. During the first week of filming they were forced to switch roles due to scheduling conflicts, even though scenes were already shot with them in their original roles.
