Black Ribbon was shot entirely in DV, using the Panasonic DVX-100b, and edited using an Avid Xpress Pro system by 4VideoEquipment. All the footage was recorded using an nNovia QuickCapture tapeless drive system. The DVD was created using Adobe Encore, and compressed using Canopus ProCoder. A Sennheiser ME66/K6 Shotgun mic on a K-Tek fishpole was used for all of the audio, and mixed in Pro Tools. For lighting, RoloLight softboxes wth various lighting gels were used. For post production processing cinema effects, Magic Bullet by Red Giant Software was used. For some shots, several Formatt filters were used, such as the Clear Soft Effects 3 and Super Soft Gold Enhancer. For stability a Bogen 503 series tripod was used, and a Glidecam Smooth Shooter rig was also used for some of the moving shots.
