After their successful collaboration in the political action drama Kodi, Dhanush, and Durai Senthilkumar are uniting once again in the sports action drama Pattas. Unlike their previous outing, Durai Senthilkumar went to make the typical father and son revenge film blending it with a refreshing element that adds so much color to the overall output. Pattas speaks about "Adimurai", ancient martial arts. Durai Senthilkumar made it appealing to the masses by adding it into a convincing commercial template. Pattas seems to be the ordinary revenge drama that we use to watch for a few decades but honestly, it's one of the well-made entertainers in Tamil. Despite the slow pace and the not so focused first half, Durai Senthilkumar made us stick with the film for the overall entertainment experience. Again, this is a film that revolves around Dhanush who plays a dual role. As the responsible father Thiraviyaperumal, Dhanush strikes gold. He is perfectly fitting into the role making it a big treat for his hardcore fans. As the conman son Shakthi aka Pattas, Dhanush seems to play a character that has the shades of his previous roles in Thiruvilayadhal Arrambam and Polladhavan. He is entertaining in every aspect. The climax fight scenes are a delight to watch. After Dhanush, the biggest surprise is Sneha. It's very rare to see a strong woman role in a commercial entertainer but in Pattas, Sneha's role has a very big impact in making the film pretty much interesting. She does effortlessly the stunts and shines as a performer in the film. There are scenes where Sneha overshadows Dhanush and it's worth watching it. The rest of the supporting actors doesn't have much to score in their scopeless roles. Vivek-Mervin's songs and background score are the usual fan treat in this film. Overall, Pattas is a proper commercial entertainer with refreshing elements.
