The plot starts after 10 minutes with the father (Bhagyaraj) re-opening a 15-years old case seeking justice for a psychopath women killer. The first half, was usual with Jyotika producing evidence and the other party proving the evidences void. The second half, is where the subject matter of the movie is revealed. The last part of the movie though emotional and cinematic, defies logic. I particularly liked the judge character and the short cameo with his assistant. Though there are cliche scenes likes public opinion, credit should be given to the director for getting to the point straight forward and not using male bashing, victimization routine seen in other women-centric movies!!

The story is engaging and exactly adequate to make a good commercial thriller movie . But the screenplay is poor that spoils the whole potential of the story . the scenes seems immature and overacting is jarring at some points . the inexperience of the director is very evident at some cases where strong emotions needs to be conveyed which converts it to a no feeling whatsoever scene. the acting of the lead actors are good ( a plus for the movie infact) but the acting of the supporting roles spoils the play. the music is very good and tries to elevate the scenes which are supressed by flaws of the poor screenplay and dialogues. Dialogues which is the most important thing for a court movie is not powerful enough to convey the intensity of the scene. the last half an hour is engaging but it is does not worth the time you wasted seeing amateur scenes with no grip or emotion . so this is a no for me . ( plus the idea of jyothika playing both the character of the advocate and the victim is bad and did not work at all) thank you PEACE!!
Movie turned down to be a good one with superb first half and decent second half the treatment to the screenplay could have been better the court room drama could have been better because the main pulse is missing

Good emotional thriller movie with a social messege. Good screenplay. Climax super with a small twist. Good acting by Jyothika. Only negative is that there is no logic in court verdict as it was not based on evidences.
It's a story with a good message required for the society and every individual to be responsible. Jo nailed the character with ease .

The story and the setup holds a lot of promise, but then the script goes in tangents ranging from emotion to logic to women empowerment and overall preachy. This makes the movie as a whole weak. For instance the court scenes were overly melodramatic with nothing to do with the case or facts. Don't think any court will allow for 10 minute verbal tirades and such melodrama. It also feels as if the movie was made to showcase Jyotika'a acting prowess and she has done well, but this make the movie unrealistic and overly dramatic. Hope the director would have transformed such an interesting story into something more powerful. A missed opportunity.

Salute to all the makers of the movie. Very truly the message of respecting girls and women have been shared. This sense of respect should be grown in every generation of human kind.

Comes across clearly as a tip of the hat to raising awareness to the rape, sex trafficking and child molestation epidemic in the world and India.
But does not quite make it as great cinema that one would pay for to go to the theatre more like a TV serial docudrama that is over dramatized.
Compare with Kamal's awesome Papanasam and you will feel the difference between good cinema and a good TV docudrama
But .... worth a look and gets the job done, though it lacks the chokehold of a gripping genre thriller

Very average story for a thriller or a drama. Casting was like a list of invitees for a wedding. Trying to follow the formula of Manithan, the courthouse scenes were atrocious! Very artificial and seeing Jyothika and Parthiepan conversing in the courthouse - honest feeling was tamil tv serials felt better sometimes. Only positive is the message about kid safety awareness.

They got a good story , good message and a good cast, Im a huge fan of the actress but it was a drag at most parts , so much focus on the emotions of the characters . Having a story based with lawyers , they could have gone more factual . Very disappointing . I was hoping for more .

Very well directed movie . It was an emotional rollercoaster. And the climax was good as well. While there are small disconnects , it never damages the overall theme of the film. A good selection of cast . Well done team. !

This movie really depicts the hardcore cruelty of the society.Nice happened that this movie had a direct OTT release.Otherwise this censor board peoples have blurred many reasons which might get resulted to be a cliched entertainer. The director didn't failed to express the disturbing scenes to educate the society. Hats off to the hard work of the entire team. This movie might be quite disturbing for major audiences but the ones with open minded are only suggested to watch this because major ones might get slightly discomforted.

Important social message. Must watch movie. But seeing jothika do all 3 roles in intolerable. Expected more court room drama.
How would you feel watching a movie without emotions ? This movie felt like how justice would feel if delivered to the needful... It feels like a simple movie at the beginning, but as the movie goes forward , you start to realise that it's becoming so intense that you would want to cry and throw up at the same time.... Your worried & scared, you cry & then it leaves you thoughtful..... A movie that needs more support ...
Watched "Ponmagal vandhaal" on Amazon Prime today afternoon (29-May-2020). In some ways reminiscent of first-day-first-show! The movie opened on OTT platform since theatrical release is not possible during Covid times.
The premise of the movie is good - child abuse (rape) with murder. We have seen such instances in the past and the horrific cover up sometimes if the perpetrator is a rich or politically connected person. The antagonist in PV is also one such person.
Without disclosing any part of the story, let me just mention what I think of the movie. The movie is taken as a courtroom drama, but I thought Pink did a much better job of depicting the court scenes. This movie cannot avoid preaching as do most Tamil movies with good storylines in the recent past. Starting with 7am Arivu. The preaching there was irritating to say the least and took away from the merits of the movie. This too fails there. The judge (Pratap Pothen) is supposedly an honest man who hasn't taken a bribe his whole life; but towards the end he is shown accepting a briefcase from the villain. This was unnecessary unless the director wanted to convey something about our judicial system.
The plot twist in the end was created in my opinion only for effect - else nothing prevented the director from retaining the fact disclosed by Jyothika during the courtroom scene about her past!

The subject is very real and horrifying at the same time. But despite having such a subject in hand the director lost focus in the implementation. The trailer of the movie looks like an engaging courtroom drama but once you watch the movie you realise its a very old age formula movie relying heavily on the sentiments rather than logic and being realistic. The first half is decent even though you know the end of the movie already. But it is in the 2nd half that the movie loses stream completely. 2nd half is more focused on Jyotika and the emotions rather than logic. Even the concluding judgement seems so hideous due to lack of the most important aspect required for any court and that is proof. As said earlier, the movie relies heavily on Jyotika and her emotions rather than logic. The movie would work for those who connect just on an emotional level but for others who have already been used to so many realistic court dramas, investigating movies in the recent times, this movie would feel very old. Great effort by Jyotika though. She seems in control of everything she does and makes the movie watchable. Especially the concluding statement and flashback hit very hard, to even think such horrifying acts happens right in the society we live in.
The movie would have been one of the best movies in recent times as it is made on a well known topic and contains the right emotions in the 2nd half but it needed more logic in the court proceedings and the final judgement to become a decent package.
One time watch.
