The self-titled Päätalo follows the life of Finnish author, Kalle Päätalo, who in his 30s, finds a brutal upbringing, unsatisfying marriage, and poor self image are hold him back from realizing his potential until he falls in love. This period in his life, help to solidify the artistic and literary foundation for his later life. Päätalo, moving from his hardscrabble rural existence to the big city of Tampere, blossoms and finds his way through a series of moving personal epiphanies. Kalle Päätalo achieved wide recognition for long autobiographical IIJOKI series. The popularity of his writing helped gain acceptance of literature as art rather than a method for instruction or espousing beliefs.
