Probably only appropriate for an exclusively Italian audience, the movie has its strength in the very topical subject of immigration, basis of the entire plot. As per its extravagant character and director Checco Zalone, the movie has a very peculiar comic style, which can be either loved or hated. Very hilarious gags are alternated with some dubious gaps in the plot. Overall, an enjoyable movie to watch.

As usual, Zalone tries to "educate" the audience by impersonating characters who reflect some of the worst Italian stereotypes and behaviors. This time the main theme is immigration from Africa. The movie is full of irreverent jokes and gags that aim to politically correctness, hypocriticals, racists, do-gooders, embedded reporters, politicians, fashion-addicts and fascists. Although one would expect some drama (given the issues addressed), this is a comedy and my advice is: Don't take it too seriously. Personally, I didn't like the end and I must admit that Zalone's previous movies (directed by Nunziante) were probably better made. However, the movie is enjoyable and gives some food for thoughts.
I'm italian. I think each Zalone's movie is mainly for italians, starting from the language he uses.
Tolo Tolo is the first movie directed by Checco Zalone and for the first time he's not just comic, he's not used, he wants to try to swap the audience with him during the movie (an Italian audience).
I enjoyed watching it. Honestly i'd say thanks to him for what he did

You can tell that this is the fruit of a deeply well-though creative and sociological process. Zalone takes about 2 to 3 years to complete a movie project and this allows him to have such results.
The movie is full of great jokes which only Italians can fuly appreciate (I guess), some of them very witty, others apparently low-level but that make sense for the character's attitude.
The obvious theme of the movie is immigration and it is well depicted together with all the hypocrisy around the topic.
I watched it as an Italian with other Italian friends and know by experience how precise the social commentary adn satire of the film was.
The idea of the trailer for the movie was also the touch of a genius, as its apparently politically incorrect tones made also a ton of bigot or shallow people to go and watch it at the cinemas: the movie is clearly the opposite of racist (as any human being with decency or a glimpse of culture could not support such a stand).
This is a macaroni dish of roman style, il duce like italianism, where an bankrupt italian businessman flees the irs and emigrates to somewhere in africa, where isisterrorizes and takes command, and he must like all the others flee, but having shreded his own passport he has to go through all the hardships that african immigrants has to go through on their journy to the ''promised land'', on a rubber dingy, a lottery of life whereever that maybe.
its trully a great comedy on behalf of the italian spirit and nationalism. its not a racial comedy, no, the xenophobic moments are dually shared and its rather one italian trying to avoid drowning by hanging on the flagpole on the sinking ships aft, trying to save himself from the africans that do rib him from money and his narcississtic dignity. if youre an italian ''tolo tolo'' is a must see, if your an european you should definately have a look, cause it shows the relentless nothingness that european politicians do in their daily life at work, thats merely nothing at all. its a poutpoury of colours and language, and a good mix of true facts, and pure fantasy through comedy
to see this film youll have to love irony cause its specked full of it, also the choice of score is a bullseye, easy italian, with a spicy sound of african rythms. the cast is like an italian salad, tasty and colourfilled, and the whole shabang did entertain, even a grumpy old man that doesnt know italian language at all. a recommend it is.

Another film with the comedian Checco Zalone as the protagonist. The film is different from the various advertising clips around for some time. Is a non-racist film, in the end Checco makes it clear that we are all the same and there are no color distinctions; we are all human. To be a record-breaking box office film, I expected more.

Really poor comedy. Zalone tries to replicate the previous successes but he collects a huge and embarrassing failure.

"Tolo Tolo" has its good moments and genuinely funny scenes. This is a movie about racism and the difficulty to integrate in a different culture, but this time the emigrant is Checco Zalone. The movie makes you understand what people that are running away from Africa because of the war need to endure in order to get to safety. The director criticizes European Politics, he shows the ignorance of the Italian population and the overall superficiality of people when it comes to empathizing with some difficult situations. Zalone is as always funny and he made me laugh a lot. His comedy might be a little bit too aggressive for some, but I am happy that there are still people in Italy willing to make these jokes, because this is the kind of humor that I am looking for. Checco already explored a few of these topics in previous movies, therefore a few plot elements felt a bit too exploited. However if you are searching for something light-hearted to watch with some friends, "Tolo Tolo" is just perfect to spend one hour and half.
If you have watched the trailer, be aware no content is in the movie. It is very boring, far below his standards. I am so disappointed. I feel I just wasted my money entirely.
Checco Zalone made few funny movies. Tolo tolo is not funny. Only stupid. The actors are terrible. There is nothing to save. A piece of garbage

It'sa comedy yes. It's modern and touches a theme, the immigration and the life conditions of immigrants, in a serious way but with a little comic verve.
It's a movie that let you think we're almost all lucky for being born in normal countries.
Checco Zalone, who's real name is Luca Medici, takes some inspiration from the great Alberto Sordi and recall scenes from other cult movies, one scene is taken from Save The Private Ryan.
The movie has several good actors, beautiful scenes and photography, but also some sad moments.
The theme of the immigration has never been treated in a so dramatic way and at the same time in a so funny but respectful way.

A lot of out of context politic with stupid gag.
It hasn't the strutture of a movie, soundtrack is bad.

I can't tell you how wrong this film is. I can't even classify it as a film: not worthy this name.
There's little fun in it, way far from the standard of a comedian like Zalone (that I don't really appreciate but at least this is his job...). There's no structure in the plot, just a sequence of stages already seen over and over again.
Musical are not catchy neither intelligent.
There's no critic to society, nor any tentative of telling a story: just a bunch of scenes that are supposed to be funny but aren't

Zalone started years ago as a tv comedian, after 4 good films (with characters that made him famous for being not politically correct),now he is trying to teach us that immigration is good and we are all white devils. Not funny and not smart to bash people that made you famous. After this Zalone is basically dead in Italy.

Immigrationist movie with lackluster jokes. Humour cannot hide the unnecessary preaching. Zalone should not try to this again. Leave political agenda to others.
This film manages to mix the comedy and the seriousness of the message that the film wants to give, a well-made script and for this reason it deserves to be a film that is doing very well at the Italian box office

Not my movie of choice but delighted to see the cinema theatre in my hometown getting full in and out. Having lived in Africa for 10 years I found characters and dynamics to be pertinent.

It's a different movie in a very delicate moment in italy as in the rest of the world . Zalone has had the courage to undress italians and our belief of self considering good people always after all , and probably viewers didnt appreciate this as much as his previous movies. I enjoyed this movie as it made laugh and also cry.
