James Gunn’s revamped version of the DC Universe will soon be hitting the screens, and with it, it will be bringing along a brand new ensemble of the Man of Steel and his fellow friends and enemies as well. While David Corenswet will debut as the new Superman, cementing her position alongside him as his love interest would be none other than Rachel Brosnahan.
Cast as the new Lois Lane to DC Comics’ Clark Kent, aka Kal-El, the film hasn’t even made its way out to the theatres as of now, and yet, she’s already winning over the hearts of millions – be it through her unparalleled beauty that matches her comic book counterpart or simply her dedication toward her role visible through her gushing about her character in interviews.

You know what's really got me excited for "Superman: Legacy"? Aside from director James Gunn previously delivering the best movies that Marvel Studios has had to offer, Rachel Brosnahan is playing Lois Lane. Just as her soon-to-be co-star David Corenswet looks like Superman in the flesh, Brosnahan looks so much like how Lois is drawn: a gaze that sees through you and yet attracts your own, round and slender face with a strong chin, and brunette.
It's not all looks though, Brosnahan has got the talent and attitude to back it up. Check out her leading performance in the 2020 thriller "I'm Your Woman" as Jean, a housewife caught up in a crime. Jean is more naive than Lois, but they share a proper spine and a good heart. Brosnahan is best known, though, for awards darling series "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" — playing a snappy, mid-century New Yorker like Midge Maisel...

Julia Louis-Dreyfus gets a fantastical visitor while caring for her ailing daughter in the first trailer for the A24 drama Tuesday.
A24 released the trailer Thursday for Daina Oniunas-Pusic’s feature, which does not yet have an announced release date. Tuesday centers on Zora (Louis-Dreyfus) and her terminally ill daughter, Tuesday (Lola Petticrew), who meet Death in the form of a talking and size-shifting bird voiced by Arinzé Kene.
“Madam, you need to say goodbye to your daughter,” Death says calmly in the footage. “Life — every life — ends.”
Later, Zora has trouble coming to terms with saying goodbye. “I don’t know what I am without you, who I am without you,” she tells Tuesday. “I don’t know what the world is without you in it.”
Oniunas-Pusic wrote and directed Tuesday, which premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in September. Helen Gladders, Ivana MacKinnon and Oliver Roskill serve as producers.

A24 has released a trailer for its upcoming emotional drama, “Tuesday,” which stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus (“Veep”) and Lola Petticrew.
The film premiered at the 50th Telluride Film Festival on Sept. 1 and is expected to release sometime this summer.
Louis-Dreyfus plays a loving, caring mother to a terminally ill teenage daughter (Petticrew). The two have a powerful bond, and early scenes of the “Tuesday” trailer show how they’ve embraced their circumstances with joy and humor, undaunted by the looming specter of death.
That changes when the daughter is literally confronted by death manifested in the form of a talking bird. As the story unfolds, the mother must learn to make her peace with and accept the brevity of her daughter’s time on Earth in an emotionally devastating drama about the echoes of loss and finding resilience in the unexpected.
Rounding out the cast is British actor and playwright Arinzé Kene.

An early scene in the small-scale and adventurous Tuesday reveals that Zora, the single mom played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, knows how to bargain. That’s good, because soon she’ll be bargaining with Death. And it’s especially good to see this gifted actor channel her brilliant knack for comic neurosis into dark, weird territory that’s steeped in grief and its seven stages.
Daina O. Pusić, a London-based writer-director who hails from Croatia, takes a courageous leap into allegory and performance-based animation with her first feature-length film. Tuesday, named for Zora’s dying teenage daughter (Lola Petticrew), is a straightforward, uncluttered fusion of mother-child drama and magic realism. In what is essentially a three-hander, Death is a world-weary macaw who can shrink and grow effortlessly, an outstanding VFX creation voiced with engaging seriousness and heart by Arinzé Kene (I’m Your Woman).

Clement Virgo’s “Brother” is the kind of movie whose opening scene is obviously meant to serve as a skeleton key for the rest of the story to come, but this decades-spanning drama — a lyrical and probing adaptation of David Chariandy’s novel about two siblings coming of age under the care of their Trinadadian single mother in the suburbs of Toronto — is so unstuck in time and shot through with raw emotion that its clunkier moments tend to function like tender maps back to the heart of the matter.
It starts with a formative memory that feels like a legend, as scrawny teenage Michael (“The Last of Us” actor Lamar Johnson) and his very big bro Francis (“The Underground Railroad” star Aaron Pierre) stand beneath the power lines that run along the Scarborough bluffs and listen for secrets amid the electric hum. “The buzz gets louder the higher you get,...

“I can’t wait to show it,” Berry tells Variety. “I have to tell you, one of the things I’m most excited about is the title song that H.E.R. sang… and she killed it. So I can’t wait to share with everyone and am super excited.”
Hand-selected by executive producers Berry and Cardi B, the film’s soundtrack features six original songs by award-winning and multi-platinum female artists, including Cardi B (“Bet It”), Saweetie (“Attitude”), City Girls (“Scared”), H.E.R. A column of random thoughts:
Whatever you think about the year’s movies, you have to admit the titles were confusing. For example, we had “Pieces of a Woman,” “Promising Young Woman,” “I’m Your Woman,” “I Am Woman” and “Wonder Woman 1984.”
That last title could also confuse future film historians. In the old days, when studios included the year in a title, it was straightforward, like “Golddiggers of 1933” (which came out in 1933). That was also true of other films such as “Broadway Melody of 1936,” “Big Broadcast of 1936” and “Hit Parade of 1941.”
However, in the 21st century we’ve had “Blade Runner 2049” (2017), Wong Kar Wai’s “2046” (2004) and Sam Mendes’ “1917” (2019). With so many new titles each year and so many platforms, you’d think the studios would want to clarify things for us, not the reverse.
Speaking of future historians, it will be interesting to see...

If you want to win an Oscar for Best Costume Design, it’s best to pick a project for which you can create frilly dresses from a bygone era. Since its introduction at the 1948 Academy Awards, this category has favored period pieces, including last year’s winner “Little Women.” Voters love to reward the creative forces behind such films, especially those that are about the aristocracy including recent champs “Marie Antoinette” (2007), “Elizabeth: The Golden Age” (2008), “The Duchess” (2009), “The Young Victoria” (2010), and “Anna Karenina” (2013). (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2021 Oscars predictions for Best Costume Design.)
By the way, none of those films even competed for Best Picture. Indeed, only 20 of the most recent 71 Best Picture champs also won this award. Among these was “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” (2004). Fantasy films such as this often boast Oscar-winning costumes, including 2019 winner “Black Panther,” and recent champs “Alice in Wonderland...

As is the case with most below-the-line Oscar categories, bigger equals better when it comes to Best Production Design. The more lavish the sets, the more accurate the period detail, the more extravagant the designs, the more likely your film will win an Academy Award. Formerly known as Best Art Direction/Set Decoration, this prize goes to the production designer and set decorator, leaving the poor art directors on the outside looking in; perhaps that accounts for the title change. (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2021 Oscar predictions for Best Production Design.)
Like Best Costume Design, this award rarely corresponds with Best Picture. Before “The Shape of Water” prevailed in both categories in 2018, the last to line-up was “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” in 2004. Often, the winner of this race hasn’t even been nominated for the top prize, as was the case with “Memoirs of a Geisha...

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Thursday revealed the 366 feature films that are eligible for consideration at the 93rd Oscars, which are set to air April 25 live on ABC.
The total number of films is up from last year’s 344 films in contention.
This year’s list was compiled based on tweaked eligibility rules implemented because of the coronavirus pandemic, which has pushed the ceremony to its latest date ever. For this year, feature films had to open by February 28 in a commercial motion picture theater for a seven-day qualifying run in at least one of six metro areas: Los Angeles County, New York City, the Bay Area, Chicago, Miami and Atlanta. Drive-in theaters open nightly were included as qualifying venues, as were films intended for theatrical release but because of the lockdown made available first via streaming, VOD service or other broadcast.

A Guide to Avoiding #OscarsSoWhite: Instructions for Academy Voters Before Filling Out Their Ballots
⊗ Film is supposed to be inclusive. But if you can’t see yourself on-screen, do you feel as if you even exist? One-third of our lives is spent at work, and the artists who express their creativity through cinema deserve to have their work seen, and not just because of the color of their skin or their gender but because when you are exposed to an experience different from your own, your creativity grows. Take a moment to review this list of eligible films, putting a check mark on the ones you have seen from this year. Ideally, that will leave you with a clearer picture of how you are contributing to cinema’s evolution with your votes.
Your goal should be to watch all of these films, but let’s be realistic. Try seeing at least 60% of them. All meet the Academy’s diversity requirements — in front of or...

ReFrame and IMDbPro have given 29 of the 100 most popular scripted films of 2020 the ReFrame Stamp, which is as a mark of distinction for projects that have achieved gender-balanced hiring. This is a 12% increase over 2019.

The awards season’s narrative has been the “year of the women,” as female filmmakers, screenwriters and artisans have been making strong cases for nominations at the Oscars in categories like best picture and director. The Writers Guild of America Awards, however, might have missed the memo, only nominating four women over two films: Emerald Fennell for “Promising Young Woman” and Jena Friedman, Erica Rivinoja and Nina Pedrad, three co-writers from “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.”
In the three categories for original, adapted and documentary feature, 31 total screenwriters were nominated, four of which are women, and three come from the same feature film.
Many high-profile contenders were not eligible for recognition, including “Nomadland” (Chloé Zhao) and “Pieces of a Woman” (Kata Wéber), along with independent darlings like “The Assistant” (Kitty Green), “Farewell Amor” (Ekwa Msangi) and “Herself” (Clare Dunne). Despite this fact, there were still many to choose from.

Emmy winners Benedict Cumberbatch and Rachel Brosnahan star in Lionsgate’s “The Courier,” which premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival under the title “Ironbark.” The film was originally supposed to make its grand debut this February, which would have made it eligible for the current Oscar season. However, Lionsgate announced this week it’s been pushed back to March 19, so we won’t see it contend until the 2022 Oscars.
The film tells the story of real-life British businessman Greville Wynne, who operated as a courier during the Cold War and helped put an end to the Cuban Missile Crisis. Cumberbatch plays Wynne while Brosnahan plays Emily Donovan, who is in charge of the operation and one of the few women working as a CIA agent in the 1960s.

The members-only Academy Screening Room hit the milestone with the addition of more than a dozen movies this week, including Fisher Stevens’ “Palmer,” Lee Daniels’ “The United States vs. Billie Holiday,” John Lee Hancock’s “The Little Things,” the Russo brothers’ “Cherry,” Josh Trank’s “Capone,” the documentary “Coup 53,” the Studio Ghibli animated film “Earwig and the Witch,” the international films “Funny Boy” and “Bacarau” (neither eligible in the Oscars’ Best International Feature Film category) and some off-the-wall selections, including “Snake White – Love Endures” and “Soorarai Pottru.”
Other late additions to the screening room have included “Minari,” “Promising Young Woman,” “The White Tiger” and “Cherry,” which were not added until January.

“There’s nothing like seeing a film in a movie theater,” says actress and first-time film producer Rachel Brosnahan (“I’m Your Woman”) But in the midst of an explosion of streaming distributors like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon, “I feel like projects are having renaissances that came out so long ago, and that’s really exciting … Streamers are also providing a lot of opportunities to new voices, to different voices.” We discussed this and more with six producers for our “Meet the Experts” panel. Watch the entire group discussion above.

“They really gave me the opportunity to find my own voice as a producer, to earn that seat at the table. It was an incredible experience from top to bottom,” says Rachel Brosnahan about her experience working with husband-and-wife filmmakers Julia Hart and Jordon Horowitz on the Amazon crime thriller “I’m Your Woman.” Brosnahan stars in the film, but it was also her first feature producing gig. We spoke to Brosnahan and Horowitz as part of our “Meet the Experts” film producers panel. Watch our interview above.
Hart directed the film, and Horowitz produced it, but first they co-wrote the script together about a woman (Brosnahan) forced to go on the run after her ne’er-do-well husband goes missing. It was inspired by the untold stories of female characters often sidelined in classic crime dramas. “In particular we were watching Michael Mann‘s ‘Thief,’ and in the second act of...

‘I’m Your Woman’ Cast & Creators On Flipping The ’70s Female Crime Drama Archetype – Contenders Film
For all the praise of how great ’70s cinema was, when you come to think about it, many of the great crime classics like Straight Time, The Godfather and Thief were all testosterone-driven, with female characters resigned to second- or third-class status. Unfortunate, considering an era known for its sense of revolution.
Such was the jumping off point for Julia Hart’s Amazon Studios movie I’m Your Woman. which she co-wrote with her Oscar-nominated La La Land producer husband Jordan Horowitz. The movie stars Rachel Brosnahan as the wife of a gangster who, after his disappearance, is forced to go on the lam with their baby, who is stolen, and the Black bodyguard (Arinzé Kene) who is protecting her.
“We were watching a bunch of ’70s and early ’80s crime drama around the time we also became parents,'” Hart says during the movie’s panel at Deadline’s Contenders Film awards-season event,...
