There's straight-to-video shame, then there's straight to TV shame. The following small screen follow-ups, then, are the most shameful of the lot.
Please note, however: all of the following first aired on the small screen. They may have ended up on DVD later, but they're telly specials through and through...
1. Home Alone 5: The Holiday Heist (2012)
Original film: Home Alone (1990)
Returning cast members: None
Stars: Christian Martyn, Jodelle Ferland, Malcolm McDowell
You'll remember the first two, and might have a dim recollection of the third - new kid, new goons - and the fourth will, hopefully, mean nothing to you (old kid, new actor playing kid, old goons, new actors playing goons, shot in South Africa).
The fifth, however, is the biggest stinker of the lot, a schmaltzy Christmas edition with a new kid, new family and new goons. Also, Malcolm McDowell - of Clockwork Orange fame - is in it,...

What's the only thing worse than a sequel? The only prospect worse than paying £10 at your local cinema to have your favourite movie ruined, forever. The answer has three words. Straight-to-video.
In the '90s, home release sequels became fairly common. You'd greet them with surprise at your local Blockbusters and then want to pull your eyeballs out when you took them home and watched them. They're probably called straight-to-dvd or straight-to-Blu-ray now, but they still exist.
With the announcement that Dolph Lundgren will be starring in Kindergarten Cop 2 (because of course), here are 21 absolute stinking sequels - the vast majority of which weren't even considered good enough for the cinema. How many of them have you watched?
1. American Pie Presents: Band Camp
2. American Pie Presents: Beta House
Maybe it's the Eugene Levy factor - just why did he keep starring in all the sequels?! - but we have weird...

Reese Witherspoon would appreciate it very much if you'd forget her recent public embarrassment, and remember what a stupendous actress she really is. Let's also forget her recent subpar slate of movies that included the critically loathed Four Christmases, How Do You Know and This Means War. Instead, let's focus up on her next.and quite promising.project, an adaptation of Cheryl Strayed's best-selling memoir Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail. Witherspoon will not only headline the feature called simply Wild, but also is producing along with her Pacific Standard partner Bruna Papandrea (Warm Bodies), and River Road Entertainment's Bill Pohlad (12 Years a Slave). Witherspoon's prior producing credits include Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, the sweet but under-seen fantasy rom-com Penelope, and the little known Legally Blonde straight-to-dvd spin-off Legally Blondes, which focused on Elle Woods' plucky younger cousins. But regardless of...

Bless you, direct-to-dvd industry, for churning out endlessly amusing extensions of movies that never should have been franchises in the first place. An EW staffer casually mentioned the third Ace Ventura movie earlier today, inspiring a group of us to reminisce about the most random sequels we could think of — sequels many of us were hearing about for the first time.
And so, in honor of both these little-discussed gems and the gift that is Friday afternoon, here’s a list of the genre’s most unassuming entries. Caution: It’s about to get all nostalgic up in here. (Like that’s a surprise.

Reese Witherspoon has lived out that great elusive movie star life, starring in fairy tale romances and winning an Oscar for her an iconic dramatic turn. So she should be very well prepared for her next gig, the story of ultimate wish fulfillment.
Deadline reports that Witherspoon will star in "Wish List," a Disney-produced film about a woman who made a wish on a coin thrown into a fountain as a kid -- but because the coin never reached the bottom, they don't come true... until 25 years later, when it becomes dislodged, hits the bottom of the fountain, and grants her all ten wishes that she was denied in childhood.
Witherspoon has most recently appeared in the period drama, "Water for Elephants" with Robert Pattinson and Christoph Waltz, and the flop rom-com, "How Do You Know," with Owen Wilson and Paul Rudd. She's vacillated between serious drama and more whimsical fare,...

With the fifth installment of the Final Destination horror franchise coming to theaters in August, Warner Home Video is releasing the fourth movie on Blu-ray 3D with a coupon toward admission to the new film.
In theaters in 2009, The Final Destination has the same premise as the other films in the thriller franchise: a young man (Bobby Campo, Legally Blondes) has a premonition about his death and the death of his girlfriend (Shantel VanSanten, TV’s One Tree Hill) and friends (Nick Zano of TV’s Melrose Place and Haley Webb, Big Game) in a race car crash, but when he saves them all, death comes after each of them. The movie also stars Krista Allen (TV’s The Philanthropist).
The Final Destination Blu-ray 3D will be released on Aug. 16, 10 days before Final Destination 5 3D arrives in theaters.

Subject: Reese Witherspoon, 35-year old American actress and producer
Date of Assessment: April 20, 2011
Positive Buzzwords: Mainstream, indie, romcom
Negative Buzzwords: Poor script quality, romcom
The Case: This week's subject is a tricky one, for Reese Witherspoon's career has been littered with both indie and mainstream success despite the fact that her box-office clout has recently (and rather unexpectedly) faltered in a huge way. While Reese is still one of the only actresses who can greenlight a film merely by signing on (the other two, frustratingly, are Julia Roberts and Katherine "Rainbow Killer" Heigl), her career is in a precarious position. Her most recent box-office effort to date, How Do You Know? was made on a hefty $120 million budget, $15 million of which went directly into Reese's pocket, but grossed a measly $30 million in ticket sales. Yes, this is merely one financial flop, but it's a hugely unanticipated one because it's always been the case,...

Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers are the big guns in Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam (2010), but remember the name Chloe Bridges. It's our guess here at PopStar that the 18-year-old actress-singer will emerge as the film's breakout star and possibly the next big thing, too. Bridges, who hails from Louisiana, appears in Camp Rock 2 as Dana, a smart, talented and pretty young woman who captures the imagination and heart of Nate (Nick Jonas). Nate doesn't quite know how to express himself to Dana, however, which leads to some of the sweetest and most amusing moments in Camp Rock 2. PopStar was on hand recently when the chatty, quick-to-laugh Bridges met the press in New York City to promote Camp Rock 2, which will air tonight, September 3, on Disney Channel. Here's some of what she had to say. How much did shooting Camp Rock 2 feel like going to a real camp?...

I would like to preface this by telling you I have not yet seen Going the Distance. I've heard opinions ranging from "it's complete dog shit" to "it's really good." So I feel comfortable in my expectation level of "cautiously hopeful."
This hopeful feeling is not limited to the film itself. If Going the Distance truly blows, then so be it, it's just another lame rom-com. But if it's good, then maybe it could mean less lame rom-coms.
I'm going to come out to all of you right now. I am a lover of the good romantic comedy, sometimes fairly and sometimes unfairly deigned as "chick flick." I love The Apartment, The Philadelphia Story, When Harry Met Sally, Bridget Jones' Diary, While You Were Sleeping and The Proposal and Fever Pitch and Muriel's Wedding and The Wedding Date and I own it and I don't care what you think...

Did you know that Mean Girls was inspired by the self-help book Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman? Tina Fey adapted it into that popular 2004 comedy, back in the days when Lindsay Lohan was the sweet and innocent youngin'. Now it's mom's turn, and Variety reports that Mean Moms is heading to the big screen via Adam Shankman, Jennifer Gibgot, and Jill Messick.
This time, the focus is on Queen Bee Moms and King Pin Dads: Dealing with the Parents, Teachers, Coaches, and Counselors Who Can Make -- or Break -- Your Child's Future, which Dara and Chad Creasey will adapt. The book is designed to help parental units navigate the slippery slope between being "overly passive and excessively protective." As a feature film, it will center on a family who moves from small-town America to a high-class suburb that introduces them to "the cutthroat world of competitive parenting.

Death lurks everywhere, and Bobby Campo is running like hell. Yup, it's that time again, the release of yet another Final Destination splatter fest, with a whole new bunch of handsome guys and hot girls doing their damnedest to stay a step ahead of the Grim Reaper. The latest installment, an August 28 release entitled The Final Destination, has real promise. It's directed by David R. And there are kills a-plenty, as Nick (Campo) experiences a premonition that saves him and his pals (Shantel VanSanten, Nick Zano, Haley Webb) from certain death at a racetrack, only to have certain death hunt them down one by one by one and dispatch them in nasty and goopy ways. Campo is the star of the show,...

It's a long standing tradition in Hollywood of course to play it safe rather than risk making something completely original. Sequels? Remakes? Movies based on old TV shows or even toys? Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. Many is the time we've all rolled our eyes at the notion of a favorite film being needlessly sequelized but the very bottom of the sequel barrel is the straight-to-dvd kind.
Over at Moviefone Kevin Polowy has assembled a list of 15 Ludicrous Straight-to-dvd Sequels That Actually Exist. Some aren't all that surprising. The kids' video market seems to have lots of these so Lady and the Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure and Dr. Doolittle: Million Dollar Mutts (actually the fifth in the series) don't completely blindside me. On the other hand, did the world really need National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure with Randy Quaid boosted to headliner? The biggest...

If you're planning on doing some DVD shopping this week, you're essentially looking at some mediocre theatrical releases from January and a handful of genre flicks to choose from. In addition to Bride Wars and Hotel for Dogs, there is the A Tale of Two Sisters remake The Uninvited, the controversial Martyrs, direct-to-dvd Mma action flick Never Surrender, plus the festival favourite Jcvd starring (you guessed it!) Jean Claude Van-Damme. Also hitting stores today is the animated feature Jetsons: The Movie, the first two volumes of the '90s X-Men animated series, and on Blu-ray, Season 1 of Star Trek: The Original Series. DVD Tuesday April 28th, 2009 Battle in Seattle, 2008 Loosely based on the Wto (World Trade Organization) Ministerial Conference of 1999, Battle in Seattle creates a multiple protagonist perspective during the five days of protest within the streets of Seattle. While making his directorial debut, Stuart Townsend (actor turned director) apparently had a lot to say about the events surrounding the Wto conference, as he not only directed this film, but also wrote and produced it. For a first time director, Townsend ultimately did a good job, as the films execution worked on multiple aspects in production: from writing to directing. In fact, I believe it is the writing of Battle in Seattle that truly captures the sentiment of the film. While the Wto protest actually took place in November of 1999, Townsend’s capability to create semi fictional, yet realistic characters around a true event brings extra vulnerability to audiences, as everyone is...

The direct-to-dvd market isn't quite the graveyard it once was. It's far from perfect, but there are a few of them that are actually Ok. And then there's Legally Blondes.
Here are your options: You could skip the trailer altogether - and nobody could blame you - or you could dedicate the next two minutes of your life to a trailer that is somehow even worse than you'd expect knowing that it's a third-rate rehash of the exact same story we've already seen twice...only with twins.
