Disney Legend Richard M. Sherman, half of the Academy Award-winning songwriting team of the Sherman Brothers with his late brother, fellow Legend Robert B. Sherman, died today at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills at 95 from age-related illness.
Sherman was a key member of Walt Disney’s inner circle of creative talents. He garnered nine Academy Award nominations (winning two Oscars for his work on the 1964 Mary Poppins), won three Grammy Awards, and received 24 gold and platinum albums over the course of his 65-year career.
Richard and his brother were inducted as Disney Legends in 1990.
The Sherman brothers were perhaps best known for their work on Mary Poppins, for which they won Oscars for Best Score – Substantially Original, and Best Original Song for Chim Chim Cher-ee.
Another cherished song from the film, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, became a pop hit, entering the Billboard Hot 100 in 1965, while the lullaby Feed the Birds became one of Walt’s favorite songs.

With the long weekend upon us, there’s a good chance you’ll be looking for some new shows or movies to watch, especially if you’ll be sheltering-in-place. Thankfully, there’s a lot of fresh content coming to all your favorite streaming platforms, so we thought we’d provide a bit of a rundown on what you can watch this Memorial Day weekend.
Over on Netflix, the biggest addition comes in the form of The Lovebirds, a new comedy starring Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae as a couple who have been wrongfully accused of committing a murder. While it released to somewhat mixed reception, it’s certainly scoring much higher than The Wrong Missy, while also proving to be equally as popular with Netflix subscribers.

A look at what's new on DVD today:
"The Fantasia Collection"
Released by Disney Home Entertainment
While the headliner of Disney's incredible group of releases on November 30th will be the four-disc Blu-ray double feature of "Fantasia" and "Fantasia 2000," it's what's less publicized that should be exciting to both Disneyphiles and film fans in general. Starting with the hi-def debut of the two "Fantasias," Disney will finally include amongst the films' copious special features (many ported over from the out-of-print DVD set) the 1946 Salvador Dali-Walt Disney collaboration "Destino," along with an 82-minute making-of documentary. And incidentally, Disney is also releasing three standalone documentaries that shouldn't be overlooked in "The Boys: The Sherman Brothers' Story" about the songsmiths behind the studio's most famous musicals like "Mary Poppins," "Walt & El Grupo," which details the company-shifting trip Walt Disney took with his animators to Latin America as part of the Good...

Besides "Terminator Salvation" (watch my review here, and my interviews with cast and director McG here), there's an onslaught of new releases vying for your hard-earned movie money.
First, we have "Dance Flick."
The Wayans family, purveyor of spoof films ("Scary Movie" franchise), returns to deconstruct the dance genre in "Dance Flick."
By now, if you've seen one spoof, you've seen them all, but director Damien Wayans shows flair for directing this genre even though the film is a hit or miss in the comedy department. I did chuckle once or twice though, so "Dance Flick" gets :2k dance baby dance kisses.
We also have "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian."
Ben Stiller returns in the role of security guard Larry Daley in the sequel. Director Shawn Levy also returns and this time, the plot revolves around Jedediah (Owen Wilson) and Octavius (Steve Coogan). The cowboy dude...

An absorbing study in creative tension, Robert B. Sherman and younger brother Richard M. Sherman wrote the songs for "Mary Poppins" and many other classics despite barely getting along personally.
This documentary by their respective sons Gregory and Jeff -- who met only a few years ago because the families have been estranged for decades -- paints a vivid dual portrait of Bob, an introspective World War II veteran, and his ebullient younger brother, Dick.
Their father, also a songwriter, brought the brothers together as a team, and...
