Sterling K. Brown, Rita Ora and John Kim have been cast in Amazon MGM Studios’ Voltron movie, joining previously announced stars Daniel Quinn-Toye and Henry Cavill. Rawson Marshall Thurber is directing from a script he wrote with Ellen Shanman.

Plot details are under wraps, but Thurber shared a video message with Voltron fans during VoltCon in which he shared: “I want to make sure that we stay true to the heart and the spirit of Voltron. In this film, we’re going to be introducing an entirely new generation of pilots. We’ve reimagined Voltron for the live-action world, but we’re going to stay true to … those iconic elements that you love, that I love. And I’m so excited to share it with you.”

Producers of the pic are Todd Lieberman via Hidden Pictures, Bob Koplar, Thurber, and Hobie Films’ David Hoberman.

The trio join Henry Cavill and relative newcomer Daniel Quinn-Toye to star in the ensemble piece that gets underway December in Australia.

Voltron is based on the Japanese sci-fi series Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger Xv. World Events edited and dubbed the series as a syndicated show, naming it Voltron: Defender of the Universe, which ran in the mid-1980s. The premise centered on five young pilots in a battalion named the Robot Lions, which are vehicles that join together to form a mega-robot known as Voltron.

Sterling K. Brown is under investigation for the murder of the president in his new series, Paradise.

The Hulu series was announced back in 2023, but not much was known at the time about what Brown and This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman had in store for their reunion project. Hulu handed out a straight-to-series order less than a year after their Emmy-winning and beloved NBC drama wrapped its storied run.

Now, Paradise is taking shape with a trailer, synopsis and premiere date of Jan. 28, 2025 — as well as a stunt sending viewers to the @ParadiseonHulu Instagram account for more show information before the account goes private on Friday. The series launches with three episodes, with the remaining episodes releasing weekly.

Here’s the logline: “Paradise is set in a serene community inhabited by some of the world’s most prominent individuals. But this tranquility explodes when a shocking murder occurs and a high-stakes investigation unfolds.

On Thursday, Hulu released a trailer for Dan Fogelman’s forthcoming Hulu drama, starring This Is Us’ Sterling K. Brown. In the series,

The Alien franchise will return with its first ever television series in 2025, and it’s set to be the first story in the franchise that takes place on Earth, roughly 70 years in the future.

Creator Noah Hawley‘s take on the Alien franchise has been described as both an “extension and reinvention” of the films, but don’t expect Ridley Scott’s prequel movies to factor into the series. Scott, who’s on board the FX series as producer, dug into the origins of the Xenomorphs in both Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, but Hawley reveals in a new chat with Kcrw’s The Business that he’s not interested in playing with any of those story threads.

After his short battle with cancer, actor Kamar de los Reyes has died at age 56.

The actor is best known for his long-time role, Antonio Vega, on the television soap opera One Life to Live and for his voice acting in the video game Call of Duty.

De los Reyes was born on November 8, 1967, in Puerto Rico and grew up there until he moved to Los Angeles in the 1980s.

He landed a few small roles in several projects including Valley of the Dolls. He went on to secure a recurring role in One Life to Live where his character, Antonio Vega, appeared in 287 episodes over the course of a combined 13 years.

Over the years, de los Reyes has built up his repertoire and starred or guest-starred in many shows and movies.

Mami Wata world premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in its World Cinema – Dramatic section, where it won the cinematography prize.

Universal Studio Group’s UCP is delving deeper into the comic book universe.

The studio has partnered with Nigeria-based Comic Republic to develop a slate of TV series based on characters from its popular Vanguards Universe.

Comic Republic was founded in 2013 by Jide Martin and is an online multimedia company that focuses on the digital creation and distribution of original African comic books. The Vanguards Universe revolves around what happens when members of the first race — humanity’s self-proclaimed gods — reunite to punish the people of Lagos for the sins of the Guardian. Those who have decided to be heroes and protectors are forced to become humankind’s first line of defense, to serve and to protect, to be Vanguards. The deal gives UCP access to more than 14 characters that are core to the Vanguards world, including Aje, Eru, Metalla and Sango.

“This Is Us” alums Sterling K. Brown and Dan Fogelman are reuniting for a drama that has been ordered to series at Hulu, Variety has learned.

Hulu is not commenting on exact plot details of the untitled series, but sources describe the show as a thriller and say Brown would star as the head of security for a former president.

In addition to writing, Fogelman will executive produce via Rhode Island Ave. Productions along with Jess Rosenthal. Brown will executive produce in addition to starring, with John Hoberg also executive producing. 20th Television is the studio, with Fogelman currently under an overall deal there.

The highly secretive spec script from Fogelman quietly went to senior level executives at 20th Television and Hulu and was picked up to series.

In addition to Fogelman and Brown, Jess Rosenthal and John Hoberg serve as executive producers. The series is produced by 20th Television.

Brown, who earned two Primetime Emmy Awards for his performance as Randall Pearson in “This is Us,” most recently starred in Focus Features’ “Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul,” which earned him an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture.

He will be seen this July in the IFC feature film “Biosphere,” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Big get for Hulu: The streamer has given a series order to Dan Fogelman’s next drama that will star Sterling K. Brown.

The spec script from Fogelman was apparently reviewed by senior level executives at 20th TV and Hulu under a shroud of secrecy before it was picked up to series. Brown, the three-time Emmy winner who first teamed with Fogelman on This Is Us, will also exec produce.

The untitled series will be produced by 20th Television. In addition to Fogelman and Brown, Jess Rosenthal and John Hoberg are Executive Producers.

Exclusive: Toronto’s Elevation Pictures has picked up North American rights to Warren Pereira’s feature documentary Tiger 24, executive produced by The Gotham Group. The film has begun a limited theatrical release which includes a week’s run at the Laemmle’s Monica Film Center (Los Angeles), starting September 30. It will subsequently release on all transactional VOD platforms in North America on November 15.

Simu Liu and Sterling K. Brown are the latest additions to “Atlas,” the sci-fi action thriller starring and produced by Jennifer Lopez.

Abraham Popoola (“The Great”) is also joining the Netflix and Nuyorican Productions project.

As TheWrap previously reported, Lopez will play an intelligence analyst who gets stuck on a distant planet and is forced to fight inside a military-grade mech suit in order to save humanity. “San Andreas” filmmaker Brad Peyton will direct, with Aron Eli Coleite building on an original script by Leo Sardarian.

Rising American actress Bader will take on the titular role of Lady Jane. Based on the 2016 YA historical fiction novels, the series will follow an irreverent young Tudor woman who dreads her arranged marriage, only to be surprised when it results in a steamy romance, her being crowned Queen, and a heroic mission to save the magical people persecuted by her political rivals. Taking short-lived British monarch Lady Jane Grey as its inspiration, the popular novel was penned by Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand, and Jodi Meadows.

The mystery of Mandy Patinkin‘s next TV role has officially been solved: Hulu has ordered to series Career Opportunities in Murder and Mayhem, an hourlong drama starring the Homeland vet.

Selwyn Seyfu Hinds has signed an overall deal with UCP, which will see him adapt the Civil War graphic novel series “The Sixth Gun” into a TV series for the Universal Studio Group-owned studio.

Under the pact, Hinds will produce projects across various platforms through his production company Mad Massive Entertainment. First up is “The Sixth Gun,” based on the graphic novels from Oni Press by Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt.
