Sir John Hurt also played this character in the television movie The Naked Civil Servant (1975). Quentin Crisp said of Sir John Hurt, that he was his representative here on Earth.

In the film, Crisp admits that he doesn't like England. Ironically Crisp died in his sleep in Manchester, Lancashire, England whilst about to embark on a UK speaking tour in 1999. He had once said to Penny Arcade that his ambition was to live to be 100 "...with a decade off for good behavior". Prophetically Crisp was 90 when he died.
