After originally pitched, Ryan Dunn was supposed to direct and James Murphy was just supposed to produce. However, after scheduling conflicts, Ryan stepped down and suggested to executive producer Fran Burst to allow James to direct. James accepted, also keeping his producing role and getting Alexandra Hill and Casey Sawyer to update the script along with him after Dan Bartlett's original draft.
