Director Ronald Bronstein and Dore Mann havent't spoken to each other in years as a result of having made Frownland together.
Director Ronald Bronstein worked for a year as a copywriter in Sweden to earn the money to make this movie. After he'd saved up about $30,000 he returned to the United States and began filming. When that money ran out he got a job as a projectionist, working six nights a week and shooting one scene approximately every eight weeks. He stated that these later scenes came out better as there was more time to rehearse and improve upon them.
Director Ronald Bronstein met lead actor Dore Mann at a funeral for a mutual cousin. Mann introduced himself and started talking a lot and Bronstein was intrigued by him, calling him the most insecure person he'd ever met.
Took six years to make.
The first cut of the film was more than four hours long.
