It’s a cannabilistic fest in 1999 horror movie Ravenous.
Guy Pearce (Lockout) stars in the independent film as Capt. Boyd, a disgraced war veteran who’s quietly sent to a remote fort inhabited by soldiers half-mad with boredom. Then a frozen stranger (Robert Carlyle, California Solo) arrives and tells them about a group of settlers who are trapped in a cave and forced to eat one another. When Boyd and soldiers go to help, they fall into a deadly ambush.
David Arquette (Black Limousine) and Jeffrey Jones (TV’s Deadwood) also star in the thriller, which was directed by Antonia Bird (Priest) and written by Ted Griffin (Tower Heist).
Critics panned Ravenous, which grossed $2 million when it was in theaters. But moviegoers like it much better. The film scored 40% with critics and 79% with moviegoers, according to Rotten Tomatoes.

Over the weekend, Dave Shelton — an award winning writer, cartoonist, and voice actor, with a varied resume that includes Everybody Loves Raymond, National Lampoon, Tweety And Sylvester and Against Type — and Tami Zorge hosted the world premiere of his pilot Professor Creepy’S Scream Party at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood.
The “Garage TV” pilot, which was shot in only one day and edited in one more, is a live action variety show that is billed as a retro mash up of sixties kids shows, horror hosts, and dance shows. Picture the Hilarious House Of Frankenstein meets Vampira meets American Bandstand, with a Vincent Price-esque mad scientist as host. How does that not pique one’s interest?
The event is a testament to how hard work can pay off. The pilot process was described to me as a Living In Oblivion-esque experience, with financiers backing out, the lead actor...

For any twist to work, whether it’s in a drama or a thriller, the audience has to become invested enough so that they’re strapped in and seeing what the writer and director want them to see and not viewing the story from the outside. Black Limousine tries its best to draw you into its backseat, but the David Arquette drama just can’t deliver enough of a hook to make you want to go along for the ride. Arquette performs well enough, but there are just too many moments that reek of film school amateurism in the writing that rip you out of the story and make you ask, “Who talks like that? Even in La – who?” In its attempts to deliver some kind of high-minded point on commercialized storytelling, it takes the audience off-course and undermines the uncertainty of the protagonists eroding reality.
