An aging University professor David Kepesh (Ben Kingsley), nearing the end of his career, meets Cuban student Consuela Castillo (Penélope Cruz), who awakens his sense of sexuality.
Elegy is based on the 2001 novel The Dying Animal by American novelist Philip Roth. The Dying Animal is the third book in the David Kepesh series, preceded by The Breast (1972) and The Professor of Desire (1977).
