Sophia Loren earned her status as a cinema legend through her portrayals of women who were larger than life, yet specific enough, that we felt we might encounter them walking down the street. Her Filumena in Marriage Italian Style conveyed decades of suffering and dedication with a heartbreaking glance; her Giovanna from Sunflower seemed to have created the concept of longing and how to overcome it. And her ferociousness as Cesira — the mother devoted to protecting her daughter at all costs in Two Women — made one believe she could dive into a volcano, and come out unscathed.
The Madame Rosa she plays in The Life Ahead almost belongs in that pantheon of neorealist heroines – Loren favored raw emotion over stylization even in high melodrama. Rosa, a former prostitute turned reluctant caretaker to abandoned children, retains that indomitable essence and feels specific enough because of the way she moves in the world.

If you’re listening for evidence of the many psychedelic mushrooms Harry Styles says he ate during the recording of his outstanding second album, you will have to wait until Fine Line‘s second to last song for a dose. But when “Treat People With Kindness” arrives, it trips balls. Musing about “floating up and dreaming / Dropping into the deep end” over a feverish groove of congas, handclaps and Mellotron, Styles calls upon a gospel chorus to take him even higher: “Maaaaybe, we can find a place to feeeel good,...

Swift holds the record for the most victories for Artist of the Year. She has prevailed four times out of five nominations. The only time she ever lost was in 2015 when the award went to the now-disbanded group One Direction. Can anyone stop her from repeating? Her nominations this year also include Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist, Favorite Female Artist (Pop/Rock) and Favorite Album (Pop/Rock) for “Lover.”

The culture wasn’t demanding a James-Franco-in-Spring-Breakers-esque rapper-crooner in summer 2015, when “White Iverson” quietly started its months-long climb to No. 14 on the Hot 100. But Post Malone was fruitful, and his smashes multiplied. “White Iverson” (30 weeks on the Hot 100) beget “Congratulations” feat. Quavo (50 weeks) beget “Rockstar” feat. 21 Savage (41 weeks, his first No. 1) beget “Psycho” feat. Ty Dolla Sign (39 weeks, his second No. 1) beget “Sunflower” with Swae Lee (45 weeks, his third No. 1). He’s hit the top five twice this year. And he’s done it all with seemingly little reverence for hip-hop itself,...

After watching Post Malone and Jimmy Fallon's trip to Medieval Times, we're definitely better now. Yes, you read that right—the Grammy-nominated rapper and Tonight Show host headed to the famed dinner show that instantly transports you to life in the medieval ages. As part of the experience, visitors dine as they watch knights on horseback compete. As Malone put it, "This is the best day of my life." The star even met the queen, who shared her love for his hit track, "Sunflower." After dining on chicken and potatoes, he and Fallon cheered on their knight before deciding they needed to get into the arena themselves to...

One way to size up pop stardom is to measure how much noise an artist can create with a deluge of new music. Think of Ariana Grande releasing two Number One albums in less than six months, just because she can, jamming up radio programmers with five different singles in rotation simultaneously and burying everyone under a barrage of hits.
Another way to evaluate stars is by clocking their achievements during periods of relative silence. Everyone has to rest now and then, but a true star can still assert him- or herself even in off-months.

Swae Lee teams with Drake for his new song “Won’t Be Late.” The younger of the two brothers comprising Rae Sremmurd began teasing the new single via social media on Wednesday, writing, “Vibes drop starting tomorrow.”
The teaser description aptly fits the mood of the Tekno-produced “Won’t Be Late,” with its island and house-flavored grooves serving as an undercurrent to the pair’s rhymes, which discuss the merits of taking it slow in a relationship. “Baby, don’t fight it, you’re giving me life,” Swae Lee sings.

There was even some love for Schitt's Creek co-creator and star, Dan Levy, who secured the win for Best Comedic Performance.
The pre-recorded 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards were pre-taped and hosted by Shazam! star Zachary Levi.

Vampire Weekend delivered a delightfully shaggy take on their new song “Sunflower” on Jimmy Kimmel Live Wednesday.
The performance opened with frontman Ezra Koenig and guitarist Brian Jones breezing through the song’s up-and-down guitar licks. But instead of jumping straight to the verse, Vampire Weekend jammed out the intro a bit, deftly using a small horn section to punctuate the song’s loose grooves and kind vibes.
“Sunflower” appears on Vampire Weekend’s latest album, Father of the Bride, and is one of several songs to feature the Internet’s Steve Lacy on guitar.

Taylor Swift made history after the April 26 release of her new song “Me,” but despite huge first-week numbers she wasn’t quite able to claim the number-one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart dated May 11. Instead, Lil Nas X held that position for the fifth week in a row with “Old Town Road” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus.
“Me,” which features Panic! at the Disco frontman Brendon Urie, is the lead single from Swift’s forthcoming seventh album. The music video got more YouTube and Vevo views in its first 24 hours than any other video fronted by a female artist, and it was the fastest video ever to reach 100 million views (79 hours). The song is also the week’s biggest seller with 193,000 downloads, which is the best sales total since Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do,” the lead single from her last album, “Reputation.”

Vampire Weekend, Father of the Bride
Father of the Bride (which is out this Friday) is so zealously detailed and meticulously contoured that you easily sink into its inventions: the whirl of country picking, surf-guitar twang and classical interlude in “Harmony Hall”; the loopy hip-hop of “Sunflower” with its creeping-vocal riff; the Soweto-like bounce and AutoTuned-Beach Boys-style chorale in “Flower Moon.” But this is ear candy loaded with trouble. At 18 songs in under an hour, Vampire Weekend’s first album in six years sounds at first like a manic effort to make up lost time. Singer-guitarist Ezra Koenig, the band’s composer-lyricist and a co-producer on virtually every track, has stuffed his hooks and bridges with so many change-ups in rhythm, guitar tone and dramatic instrumental flourish that, by the finish, you feel like you’ve been whipped through a modern-pop homage to the Beatles’ Abbey Road medley – twice over.

Ariana Grande has made frequent appearances on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, but a number-one hit eluded her for most of her career. Now she has gone two-for-two. Her last single “Thank U, Next,” which she dropped last fall without any advance promotion, debuted in the top spot and stayed there for seven nonconsecutive weeks. Now her followup, “7 Rings,” has achieved the same feat, entering the Hot 100 in the top position. Watch the video for her latest chart-topper above.
“7 Rings” achieved the second most online streams in a single week for any female artist. It had 85.3 million listens in the Us, which places it behind only “Thank U, Next,” which was streamed 93.8 million times after its video was released. Grande is one of only five artists ever to debut at number one multiple times, following Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Justin Bieber and Drake.

It’s hard to find an artist who had a bigger year than Post Malone. His album beerbongs & bentleys hit Number One and broke streaming and chart records – including scoring nine simultaneous Top 20 songs. Currently, “Better Now” is the Number Two song in the country.
Expect that run to continue: Post and Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee just released a hyper-catchy new song, “Sunflower,” for the animated Marvel movie Spider Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which is out December 14th. The track is a diary of a rocky relationship, which walks...

Post Malone and Swae Lee dropped a new song on Thursday called “Sunflower,” which apparently includes in its title the name of the forthcoming film soundtrack from which it comes (the song’s full title is “Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse)”). The single re-teams Post and Swae after the two joined forces for “Spoil My Night” from Post’s album “beerbongs & Bentleys.”
Sony Pictures Entertainment and Republic Records have teamed up for the first time to create a “contemporary musical companion” for the upcoming feature film, according to the announcement. “The two camps worked closely to create a soundtrack in support of the multicultural protagonist of the film, Miles Morales,” it continues. “The music from the soundtrack will span multiple genres including Hip Hop, Latin and Pop and look to portray what a teen like Miles is listening to across the country.”

With the anticipated horror Death House being released in cinemas on February 23rd 2018, I got a chance to speak with actress Cortney Palm about what we can expect from the film, her character Agent Toria Boon and filming inside the haunted Holmesburg Prison.
What can we expect from Death House?
Death House is one hell of a ride. From start to finish the audience will be wondering what is going on and how the protagonists are going to survive. It’s more than just a bloody horror/thriller, there is depth to the Death House and characters beyond what you think you’re getting from just viewing the trailer. Think about what the CIA did in our history in regard to LSD experiments, and the meaning of Dante’s Inferno, that’s what you’re getting with Death House.
