25. “Game of Thrones,” “The Winds of Winter”
This was a crucial season for “Game of Thrones” co-creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who, in their sixth year nurturing this beast into life, had to go off-book for the first time since author George R.R. Martin had been outstripped by the TV series. Although the pair pulled off an epic ninth episode — the signature stunner in seasons past — it was the finale that came together the best this year. The opening sequence alone is worth the price of admission because it certainly brings words like “cinematic” to mind. Set to a gorgeous score by Ramin Djawadi, the scene was deftly shepherded by director Miguel Sapochnik to create an almost sadistic amount of tension as we waited for Cersei’s green revenge to be unleashed. Once the catastrophic event occurred though, that was not the end of the dragon ride for us viewers.

With the rebooted Star Trek series receiving diminishing returns with each new entry and Star Trek Beyond underperforming, the future of the franchise is not certain. Maybe a new director is needed to take the series in a different direction. Cinelinx looks at seven reasons why Christopher Nolan would be the right man to save the struggling franchise.
Although Star Trek Beyond squeaked into a distant second place this past weekend, (Behind the latest Jason Bourne film) with an estimated $24 million--taking in over $105 million in two weeks--it’s had a nearly 60% decline this weekend. That’s a significant drop compared to the last two Trek films, both of which saw their domestic totals reach over $146 million by the end of their second weekends. With a total budget of $185 million Star Trek Beyond needs to make $370 million overall, which seems unlikely at this point. If this film does lose money for the studio,...

Heaven help him, in this week’s Preacher, our scruffy title hero put his “gift” to its greatest test yet by trying to return Odin to church — permanently. And, regardless of Jesse’s superpower, I would have said prior to watching the episode that there was about as much of a chance of that happening as there was of Tulip kissing Cassidy. So was I wrong… or was I wrong twice? Read on and find out!

Nashville, when I said I wanted Maddie out of sight and more Rayna/Deacon scenes, this isn’t exactly what I meant.
Because Maddie’s decision to run away from home in Wednesday’s episode not only puts the hour’s focus on the truculent teen, it gives us plenty of Jaymes/Claybourne family turmoil that yes, gives us Rayna and Deacon in the same space, but also leaves the newlyweds snapping at each other in their worry over their missing daughter.

International Film Festival Rotterdam (Iffr) to deal with the zeitgeist topic in “a playful and provocative way”.
This is a year in which gender discussions have moved right into the mainstream. Eddie Redmayne is Oscar nominated for his performance as a transgender artist in The Danish Girl. Catilyn Jenner, previously known as Bruce Jenner, has been a source of endless fascination to the gossip columnists in the Us while boxing promoter Kellie Maloney (formerly Frank Maloney) has provoked plenty of discussion in the British press.
In Iffr sidebar He/She/X, programmer Inge ds Leeuw aims to look at gender issues in a playful and provocative way.
The programme consists of features and shorts all addressing ideas of “gender fluidity.” There is also an accompanying exhibition featuring videos and instalations, including a “Gender Swap Machine”.

So far, we've all assumed Scott Disick's been having the time of his life after abandoning Kourtney Kardashian ... but a new promo for "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" tells a different tale. A promo for the show's next season shows Scott and Kourtney come face to face, as they have a very emotional conversation about their relationship, with Kris Jenner in the room too. "It breaks my heart to see her in pain," the momager says to her daughter's baby daddy. Video: See Kris Call Scott a "Piece of S**t!" "It’s been a really hard time going from like having all you guys to having nobody," Disick then confesses, his voice trembling as he speaks. "I f**ked up. I made the worst decision I could have ever made in my life." The clip then shows quick shots of all three of them crying. It's clearly a tense chat.

Today’s been a big news day for TV fans, as various networks have announced their renewals and cancellations for the 2014-2015 season. The CW is the latest to chime in, offering a few predictable pick-ups while getting rid of a couple freshman dramas to make way for new shows.
The Flash has been considered a lock for the upcoming season ever since the show was first announced, but the news has finally been made official. The show, a spinoff of the very popular and already-renewed Arrow, will be produced by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Geoff Johns. It will star Grant Gustin as the titular scarlet speedster, who made his television debut earlier this season on Arrow to rave reviews from fans and critics.
The Flash won’t be the only new DC property to find a home at The CW, as Rob Thomas’ iZombie adaptation has also been picked up.

Review Caroline Preece 18 Oct 2013 - 13:01
Arrow's second season started strong and continues to impress. Here's Caroline's review of Identity...
This review contains spoilers.
2.2 Identity
Oliver had the Batman/Bruce Wayne problem this week, and this reformed billionaire playboy had to decide between making his city better through costumed heroics or through showing his real face at a fundraiser for rebuilding The Glades. He wanted to do both, of course, but that's not often possible when there are supervillains hanging around at the same time. Identity saw the return of China White and the debut of an underused Bronze Tiger, as well as civilian antagonist Sebastian Blood.
But Oliver's biggest problem at the moment is the police, led by an increasingly annoying Laurel. This is the first time they got in his way during a mission, as he puts it, and that has the potential to be a huge problem.

Arrow Season 2, Episode 2 “Identity”
Written by Ben Sokolowski & Beth Schwartz
Directed by Nick Copus
Airs Wednesday nights at 8pm on The CW
When Arrow was trying to establish itself as a quasi-procedural in the first season, many of its one-off adventures suffered from weak, one-dimensional adversaries, gone before their supposed evil presence was even felt in Starling City. Combine that with a horrible love triangle story line and a see-saw grasp of its own morality, and it’s easy to understand why it took so long for Arrow to find its footing – but hot damn, has it hit its stride early in season two: “Identity” is arguably a stronger episode than the season premiere, a fantastic hour that might borrow a little heavily from The Dark Knight, but nonetheless shows an astounding command over its narrative and expanding cast of characters it didn’t have last season. Ever since the news was announced, Ben Affleck has been getting flack for signing on to play Batman in the upcoming “Man of Steel” sequel. But Matt Damon can’t wait to see his buddy as the Caped Crusader.
During an interview for his new flick “Elysium,” the “Bourne Identity” hunk enthusiastically declared, “I think it will be great.”
Matt continued, "It will be terrific. I know there are a lot of people grousing on the internet. I just think it's kind of funny. You know, he's not playing King Lear. It's Batman!”
“It’s certainly within his skill set. If anybody saw 'Argo' or 'The Town,' and all the work he's been doing lately, it's way more nuanced and interesting and way more difficult than Batman! Batman just sits there with his cowl over his head and whispers in a kinda gruff voice at people.

As for those grief-stricken fans of the franchise who signed petitions and made a big ruckus about the casting, Matt believes the criticism is a bit too premature and unwarranted.

“Batman” only appears in one page of Batman #21, but the reader won’t mind. What made this comic such a good read was that it distilled what it means to be Batman and then traveled in time six years to show how this idea has developed over the years. It does this through action, world and theme building, and a compelling character study of Bruce Wayne over the years from child to Caped Crusader.
Even though dialogue and exposition help develop characters, move the plot, and catch up new readers on things they may not understand, too much of it, especially in a visual medium like comics, can lead to a less than satisfactory reading experience. Sunday's episode of Revenge saw Emily and Nolan make one takedown and position themselves for the ultimate face-off, while Jack grew more disgusted and Conrad's campaign took a hit.

Weigh in with your own responses to these Revenge topics below!

1. What was your favorite quote or scene from "Identity"?
Kate: Either when Nolan got put on "X" through the Fa1c0n or when Aiden put the ring on Emily's future! Both scenes pulled on the heart strings!
Miranda: Nolan and the Fa1c0n in the arcade. Her "what happens when I win" and his "you won't" were just perfect!

London, March 31: The Pussycat Dolls' former member Kimberly Wyatt has reportedly come out of her band's identity and feels she is now appreciated for herself, rather than just as a former member of the band.
Wyatt who now appears as a judge on Britain TV show "Got To Dance" feels like she has finally stepped out of the shadow of her former band to be appreciated in her own right.
"It's taken many years to shed my Pussycat Identity that I'd become so familiar with. I just wanted to be the captain of my own destiny, I didn't want to have to rely on other people," femalefirst.co.uk quoted Wyatt as saying.

With Welcome To The Punch's striking title in mind, James offers some more interesting film names for recent hits...
Welcome To The Punch. Boom. That is a brilliant film title. It hits you and it hits you hard. It’s an inviting knuckle sandwich to your conscious awareness and its five syllables sucker punch you and say, “Yeah, now you know me. You are watching this film, sunshine.”
Imprinted indelibly on my memory right from the first mention, how could I not follow it up and discover what mysteries lie behind the bombastic moniker? It immediately impresses me with its shocking violence and promises brutal action, intense energy and all the other sadomasochistic kicks I crave in my cinema trips. Welcome To The Punch speaks directly to my psyche and is sold to my subconscious in only four words.

This is my top 10 favorite kickers in Kung Fu cinema. It is just my personal opinion as there are many great performers out there with amazing ability also. I hope everyone likes my top 10 and please feel free to leave comments at the bottom of the page.
10.Jean Claude Van Damme
Jean Claude is one of the best kickers i have seen out of the Asian movie market. His jumping spin kicks are brilliant, hitting with speed and power, which would take anyone’s head off. Van Damme was also a former member of the Belgium Team that won the European Championships in 1979 in Brussels.
Some of Van Dammes best kicking skills can be watched in movies such as No Retreat, No Surrender, Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Lionheart, Double Impact, The Quest and so on. He recently starred as the main villain in The Expendables 2, which he did a great job,...

Sunday July 15th is the last day of Comic-Con 2012, and most of us will be completely worn out looking like Spider-Man in the image above. Chances are he's asleep under that mask. Sunday has always been a cool down day for us, we kind of just try to relax a little bit more and enjoy it. That doesn't mean their isn't anything to see or do though!
We've got a Fringe screening and Q&A, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 20th Anniversary, Sons of Anarchy, the annual Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical screening, and more! I've always wanted to go the Buffy musical sing-a-long, but am usually trying to leave San Diego before it starts.
Just a little reminder, we will be having our annual GeekTyrant meet up this year to meet our readers, which is something we always enjoy doing! That will take place on Wednesday night, and...

Steve Aoki may have hit his musical sweet spot with Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo on his latest, upbeat, electro-rock track "Earthquakey People" already climbing the Beatport dance chart ,where it's being sold exclusively.
MTV News pried the track's brand-new video from Ultra Records and Aoki's Dim Mak Records, which can be described as pure fun. It's the first song featuring a vocal from Aoki's new album, Wonderland, due in December.
"It's a very diverse album," Aoki told MTV News. "I think I'm going to throw a curveball at people, because I think the songs I'm writing, they're not these big club anthem records. They're proper songs."
Aoki has been slowly unwrapping his album, touring America with IDentity Festival and all over the world at various mega-events, teasing fans with new tracks like "Earthquakey People," which he wrote for Cuomo.

In a miraculous stroke of good fortune, USA Network opened the doors of its brand new drama series Suits to the press so that we could see what is really going on in the hallowed halls of the fictional law offices of Pearson Harden. As can be seen from the set photos, it was rare chance to see a new show being built from the ground up – to watch the glass tower world of New York City be rebuilt in a Toronto film studio. Providing their exclusive insight on their characters and the secret ingredient to this new show were stars Gabriel Macht, Sarah Rafferty, Rick Hoffman and executive producer Doug Liman. (Unfortunately Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle were tied up filming and were not available for interviews that day.)

Marvel Studios is currently hard at work on "Iron Man 2," "Thor," "The First Avenger: Captain America" and "The Avengers," but there are plenty of other characters in the company's catalogue that are likely to wind up on the big screen at some point in the near future — like Doctor Strange, for instance.
An official announcement has yet to be made, but both Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Stan Lee himself have name-checked the character as having plenty of cinematic potential. But casting Stephen Strange isn't an easy feat — you need someone who can take the mysticism and magic seriously while still lending some much-needed charm and charisma to the role.
Still, if anybody could slip on the Cloak of Levitation and convince moviegoers to follow his strange exploits, it's one of these five actors.

For a million dollars, can you unspool a roll of toilet paper with your body in 60 seconds?
NBC has ordered a new game show from Universal Media Studios in association with Friday TV that creates high-stakes competition based on deceptively simple household challenges.
In "Perfect 10," contestants will be faced with 10 tasks they must complete in 60 seconds. Eight one-hour episodes have been ordered, with former NBC alternative head Craig Plestis and Tim Puntillo ("Identity") serving as executive producers.
By choosing easily replicated challenges, NBC hopes to increase the level of at-home participation and the potential to expand the game to other platforms. The network will post demonstrations of 50 games on a Web site before the show's launch, allowing potential contestants and viewers to practice the tasks.
"I love that it has a mischief as to what the games are, and it looks and feels like we're creating a very different...

In a case of incredibly lucky timing, Craig Yoe, the author of Secret Identity: The Fetish Art of Superman’s Co-Creator Joe Shuster, The Art of Ditko, The Complete Milt Gross Comic Book Stories and Life Story, The Bizarre Comics of Boody Rogers, and The Great Anti-War Cartoons, has started blogging again on Super I.T.C.H. (International Team of Comics Historians) with a well-timed piece: Jack Kirby's drawing of Mickey Mouse:
Back in 1991, I did a coffee table art book “The Art of Mickey Mouse”, I got artists from around the world to do their interpretation of “The World’s Favorite Mouse.” One of the first people I called was Jack Kirby. He and his wife Roz were very excited about the idea. He sent me two drawings, as I recall, and I chose this one. I colored it “animation style,” with the black line...

While we await word on a Superman film that either will or will not happen during our lifetime, Supes co-creator Joe Shuster will instead enjoy some time on the big-screen as his secret identity as a fetish writer is revealed in a new book and, perhaps, an upcoming movie. Variety tells us that the Gotham Group has optioned the screen rights to Craig Yoe's Secret Identity: The Fetish Art of Superman's Co-Creator Joe Shuster. In it, Yoe names Schuster as the secret artist behind a 16-volume mob-financed underground comic series depicting torture, S&M and all that weird, freaky stuff. The cover of Yoe's book -- which comes with an introduction by Stan Lee -- seductively depicts a woman who looks a lot like Lois Lane whipping a beefed-up dude who kinda resembles the Man of Steel without his shirt on. Hmmm ... just what did go on between those two behind closed doors?...

I recently discovered incredible, previously unknown, fetish art by the creator of Superman, Joe Shuster. The artist and his writing partner, Jerry Siegel, had sold Superman for 130 dollars. When they sued to get the rights back they lost and got drummed out of the comic book industry and Shuster fell on hard times. It was unknown that to get by and/or because of a personal interest in the subject, Shuster then did S&M porn for under-the-counter booklets called "Nights of Horror," sold in Times Square in the early fifties. The back story I uncovered involves the Mob, showgirls, neo-Nazi Jewish juvenile delinquents, inspired by Shuster's art, known as the Brooklyn Thrill Killers, the famed anti-comic book crusader Dr. Frederic Wertham, Senate investigations,...

'Rudolph,' 'CSI' guide CBS to Thurs. win
NEW YORK -- CBS's red-nosed reindeer sailed over the fourth night of NBC's game show Identity, leading CBS to a Thursday win in both viewership and the adults 18-49 demographic.
Identity (9.5 million, 3.1 rating/9 share) was up one-tenth of a rating point from Wednesday's edition but couldn't keep pace with CBS's second running of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (10.7 million, 3.7/11), according to preliminary data released Friday by Nielsen Media Research. Rudolph won in both key measures while ABC's Ugly Betty (7.7 million, 2.1/6) was a repeat. Fox's Til Death (5.2 million, 2.0/6) was up a tenth of a point from last week while War At Home (4.7 million, 1.8/5) stayed even.
For a second week in a row of repeats, "CSI" (13.1 million, 3.9/11) lifted CBS over a repeat of Grey's Anatomy (10 million, 3.4/9) while NBC repeated last week's hourlong The Office (5.8 million, 2.4/7). The OC (4.5 million, 2.0/5) tied its highest rating so far this season.
Shark (10.6 million, 2.8/8) won at 10 p.m. against Men in Trees (7 million, 2.4/7) and repeats of My Name Is Earl (7.3 million, 2.5/7) and Scrubs (4.9 million, 2.3/7).

CBS rules Wed. with 'CSI,' reruns
NEW YORK -- Despite a slight uptick from NBC's new game show Identity, CBS ruled Wednesday night with a lineup of almost all repeats.
Most everything in broadcast prime was reruns, with the exception of CBS's King of Queens, NBC's Identity and Dateline, and ABC's Primetime. But none of the originals came close to a repeat CSI: NY, which was the night's top show in viewership and adults 18-49 according to preliminary estimates released Thursday by Nielsen Media Research.
King of Queens (8.3 million, 2.8/9) got the night started for CBS, which tied it with the first half hour of NBC's game show before Identity (8.8 million, 3.0/9) proved to be too much for a repeat of How I Met Your Mother (6.3 million, 2.1/6). King of Queens was down for the third straight week in the demo from its 3.2 premiere while Identity was up slightly from Tuesday night's 2.9/8 but still well below Monday's premiere.
The 9 p.m. hour went to a repeat Criminal Minds (10.4 million, 2.9/8) in viewership although it was tied with Dateline (8.8 million, 2.9/8) in the demo.
