The website used by the killer (www.killwithme.com) actually existed. It was owned by the movie studio and it was used to promote the film. In it, users were taken to a replica of the FBI computer used by the character Jennifer Marsh. Her desktop gets hacked by the killer who provides the visitor with four tests he/she must complete to deactivate his website. The content has now been removed, and the domain name is available for sale or lease.
Diane Lane attended actual FBI training for her role. Portland Police Officer West A. Helfrich, who was in the trunk body scene with Lane, said she still wanted to descend the stairs in front of her house, Cagney & Lacey (1981) style with pistol pointed in the air in front of her face, but it was corrected to point her gun at the threat when Officer Helfrich let her and the director know that police make fun of the FBI for such foolish tactics.
Marilyn Deutsch, Pete Ferryman, David Freitas, Jim Hyde, Kimberly Maus, and Kerry Tomlinson are actual newscasters from Portland, Oregon's KPTV Fox 12, and played themselves in the film.
The rifles used in the film are airsoft replicas that were purchased at a local airsoft retail store.
Several of the police officers in this movie were in fact actual Portland Police Bureau officers. Other supporting roles such as crime scene personnel and FBI agents were also real professionals as well. The director wanted to make it as authentic as possible and took care to make sure real professionals in the fields would not make fun of the scenes involving their professions.
