"God created the world in seven days. We gotta do a whole lot more in a lot less time." Doug Harris (Gad) is getting married but has a problem. Doug doesn't have any friends and needs groomsmen. When he is told about Jimmy (Hart) he thinks he found his solution. The more the two get to know each other the more they find out about themselves. I was a little leery about this movie. The previews made it seem funny enough and I really like Josh Gad, but Kevin Hart can sometimes get a little too annoying for me. This is an exception. Hart played it almost perfect and I never once felt like he was too over the top or annoying like in Ride Along. I laughed much more than I was expecting to at this and there is enough types of humor for everyone to find something they will like. There is also enough heart and story in this to keep you interested in what is happening and not just waiting for the next joke. Me and my wife both liked this more than we expected too and this is one of the better comedies to come out in a while. Overall, nothing all that original and pretty predictable but it was very funny and when you rent a comedy that is what you are looking for. To me this is Kevin Hart's best movie I have seen. I give this a B+.

There's honestly not much more to say on this movie. It did exactly what it seems it set out to do- make people laugh and have them walk away with the warm fuzzies.
The characters have great chemistry on screen, especially Kevin Hart and Josh Gad. The plot is pretty easy to predict, but there are still a few surprises on how some points are executed. There are some great laugh-out-loud moments, even with a couple of cringe-worthy ones (was the view of what the dog chomped on really needed?).
All in all, I had a good time watching it. I kind of wish I had waited to see it in the $2 theater, but I'd watch it again if given the chance.

I really wanted to like this movie, mainly because I think Kevin Hart has had a rough few years. Not financially of course; the guy has been starring in more than a few comedies the past couple years, but critically, none of them (Ride Along, Get Hard, About Last Night) can be called a genuinely great movie. The Wedding Ringer is the best of the bunch, though. This is Kevin Hart in his element - his most dynamic performance and playing a Hitch-style role where he gets hired to be people's best mans for guys who don't have any friends. Josh Gad plays the loser character, and he and Hart have great chemistry and some very funny back and forth moments. I was actually surprised at how much I was enjoying this movie for the first half, but then the problems became too glaring to ignore.
The premise feels fresh and fun in the beginning. It felt like a cross between Wedding Crashers and I Love You, Man without directly copying either of them. The problem is, those movies had more character depth beyond their two leads. Here, every character besides Hart and Gad are cardboard cutouts. The biggest offender is Paige, played by Kaley Cuoco. She is the most shallow caricature of a woman I've seen in comedy in a long long time. It's a shame because Kaley does what she can, but her character is so one-dimensional you can't even connect with her on any level. The random groomsman have their moments, but they're still only caricatures. There's the buff guy, the fresh out of prison rapist, the guy who likes pulling out his penis, the socially awkward guy, etc. They may have defining traits, but not one of them feels like a fleshed out character.
Structure is another problem in this movie because after an excellent setup, it starts going down the list of the same tropes and beats as every other zany wedding comedy. Competitive family football scene? Check. Guy finding out girl is actually a bitch? Check. Guy and employer who have a strictly business relationship actually become friends in the end? Check. It's a shame because when Kevin Hart is given a chance to shine, he shines. But those moments become less and less often as the movie tries to tie itself neatly with a bow in the third act.
The Wedding Ringer is good for a few laughs, but in the end it's just another Kevin Hart comedy that had potential but didn't explore it. The man has proved himself to be a comedic force to be reckoned with. Now it's just a waiting game until he finds a script that fully plays to his strengths. Until then, The Wedding Ringer seems to be the one to beat, and as far as raunchy comedies go, you could do a lot worse.

I'm now writing this review back to back with another (similar?) comedy Unfinished Business (2015) with Vince Vaughn (who actually was supposed to be the star of the wedding ringer along with Owen Wilson).
I'm disappointed from most of the recent comedies, so I had low expectations with this one too. Well...the verdict is...it's better than expected! Not a masterpiece or anything but it works.
The premise? You've seen it before in many variations. A socially unpopular guy is engaged to be married with a "hot" woman, above his looks and status. His problem? He doesn't have any friends, so he hires a professional "best man" and his team, so he can offer to his woman the wedding she dreamed of.
Josh Gad and Kevin Hart are not first class comedians. They have some chemistry though, so the inevitable bromance works.
There are some funny moments. A dance. Some crude humor but not too much. It looks like Wedding Crashers "Lite".
Overall: Watch it if you had the time. Not great but overall is satisfying enough.

Doug is a nerdy introvert who is about to get married to a beautiful girl Gretchen. However, with two weeks to go before their grand wedding, Doug still could not come up with a Best Men and six groomsmen. Enter the smooth-talking hustler Jimmy who runs a Best Man for rent business to provide what Doug so desperately needed: a best friend. The spoofy title comes from the traditional Best Man duty of bringing the wedding rings during the ceremony.
Many wedding comedies would be about the bride, like "My Best Friend's Wedding" or "Bride Wars." There have been movies about the parents, like "Father of the Bride" or "Mother of the Bride". There have been been movies about the "The Wedding Planner" or "The Wedding Singer' or even "Wedding Crashers.' More recently, there had films about members of the entourage of either gender, "The Hangover" and "Bridesmaids." As a point of distinction, "The Wedding Ringer" is an uncommon wedding comedy made from the point of view of the groom.
Josh Gad is well-cast as the shy and socially-inept groom-to-be Doug. With his chubby frame, smiling face and polite demeanor, it is not hard to rally behind him and root him on. It is not really hard to conceive how a significant number of men could face the problems as Doug, not having male friends close enough to call a best man or groomsmen. He is easy for the audience to identify with.
Kevin Hart is a natural to play the boisterous and gregarious Jimmy, who had to fit in all the tall tales that Doug told Gretchen about his imaginary "best friend" dubiously named Bic. Despite his character's filthy mouth prone to profanity, Hart still manages to be funny and engaging in a potentially annoying role.
The other actors portraying the "groomsmen" were a rowdy random bunch of the strangest types of men. They were hit and miss in their jokes, many times coming off as too cringe-worthy. Easily recognizable among them is hefty, long-haired Jorge Garcia. The very final scene is even a well- placed reference to Garcia's most famous role on the hit TV thriller series "Lost."
As the bride Gretchen, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting basically reprises her breakthrough role as a sexy but flaky girl in an unlikely relationship with a nerd on hit TV comedy series "Big Bang Theory". More positively impressive is Olivia Thirlby as Gretchen's younger sister Alison. Ms. Thirlby is very pretty and smart, making a mark despite her limited screen time.
Overall, "The Wedding Ringer," with all its derivative, shallow and raunchy humor, still manages to come across with some insightful ideas about male friendships and its intricacies. The lead pair of Josh Gad and Kevin Hart share a vibrant bromantic comic chemistry together that is a lot of fun to watch. Looking forward to watching more film projects starring these two upcoming young comedians. 6/10.

I did not think it would be as funny as it was.
I knew Kevin Hart would be hilarious cause that is what Hart does no matter what the quality of the actual film is, but the entire movie and it's cast turned out to be humorous as well.
It was one of the strangest guy movies I've ever seen with a strange cast of guys in it. Add to the strangeness is the fact that it centers around a wedding. Guy movies usually don't do that.
The movie could have been done with more depth, but like most Kevin Hart vehicles, the only true purpose is to showcase his own comedy, so its not gonna win any awards, but its a goes time at the movies.

Funny movie, it doesn't have a very complex story which makes it quite easy to watch. It's surprisingly entertaining and it was made for laugh (which completely suceeds).
Good cast selection!!!!! :)

The Wedding Ringer is not a "knock your socks off comedy" but it is capable of standing up against any of the premiere comedies of the past decade. I would compare it to the same comedy vein as The Wedding Crashers, The Break-Up, and/or Bridesmaids. What I really enjoyed was every scene that Kevin Hart and/or Kaley Cuoco were slotted in because they are just so naturally impressive comedic actors. Kevin Hart plays the "Have great speech for hire Best Man" who knows how to impress a groom's newlywed wife and mother-in-law since everyone knows a wedding is always focused on the bride and the bride's mother. Make them happy and everyone will think the groom is wonderful! Kaley Cuoco plays Gretchen Palmer the needy and soon to be rich wife of a faceless and nerdy successful lawyer whose father owns the firm he works at.
I would have to say though that I dropped my rating of this film for the selection of Josh Gad as the friendLESS groom Doug Harris. I would have loved to see the deceased John Candy in this lead role but due to his death making him unavailable I really think Kevin James, Matthew Broderick, Luke Wilson or even Woody Harrelson would have been much better casted as the hapless groom than Josh Gad was. In my view Josh just does not possess that "IT" comedy factor that raises the bar throughout a comedy film. Instead the director Jeremy Garelick (who also is credited for the writing of the screenplay) stooped to lowering the comedy bar by utilizing the old gag of having a dog lick peanut butter from the grooms privates as he is blindfolded and assuming a very pretty Russian woman is doing the gorging on his peanut butter balls.
The last 20 minutes of a film can sometimes make or break a film and fortunately for the producers of this film The Wdding Ringers ended on a high note with a much needed Feel-Good ending. Sprinkled throughout the film are great supporting roles such as Jennifer Lewis (who currently plays Grandma on the hit comedy series Blackish), Cloris Leachman the tireless actress who is enjoying her eighth decade of outstanding film performances, Ken Howard, Jorge Garcia, and even cameo appearances by NFL Hall of Famers QB Joe Namath, DE Too Tall Ed Jones, and RB John Riggins engaged in a riotous game of mud football against the groom and his band of hired groomsmen.
All in all this is a light hearted and fun film that Mrs. Shullivan and I both enjoyed. As any wife will tell you, who doesn't enjoy a light hearted wedding theme comedy? I give Wedding Ringer's a 7 out of 10 rating. It is well worth the watch.

I haven't laughed this much watching a movie in a very long time. It was truly a entertaining movie filled with laughter and comedy. A very positive and fun movie that will leave you with a big smile on your lips.I totally recommend this movie to anyone. Kevin Hart was great in his role, so was Josh Gad as well. I didn't expect this movie to be THIS good and funny. Loved every scene in this movie and each character in this movie was super hilarious. The only thing i can think of that wasn't that great was actually Kaley Cuoco-Sweetings acting, she was a bit annoying in this movie. But it doesn't matter everything else is perfect. You will not get disappointed in watching this movie, it will leave you with a big big smile on your lips.
Saw The Wedding Ringer starring Kevin Hart and Josh Gad at Regal Cinemas last night and it was too funny! "Doug Harris" played by Gad is a loner, or man who has no friends, has to show his supposed dream girl "Gretchen Palmer" played by Kaley Cuoco Sweeting that he has some popularity and is not a loser.
So to do this, "Doug" is in need of seven best-men for his wedding. He is referred to "Jimmy Callahan" hilariously played by Hart who is the owner and CEO of "Best Man, Inc." by "Otis/Alzado" played by Corey Holcomb. "Jimmy" hooks "Doug" up with some weird looking characters that are paid to act like they were his best buddies in an effort to pull of "The Golden Tux" of weddings.
During their fake wedding, "Doug" finds out that "Gretchen" doesn't really love him, only wants to be with him because all she had dated were losers, and he is the only one who can provide her with the life she has only dreamed of. "Doug" is with "Gretchen" only because he would never think a girl like her would fall for him, let alone marry.
Hart and Gad most definitely have great on-screen chemistry. Their "bromance" and comedic chemistry are factors that made this movie work! Yea, there were raunchy comedy skits which might have seemed racist and homophobic to some, but as Taylor Swift says, you just Gotta Shake It Off and enjoy! It's a great date night movie; so guys take your girl to see it! My cinema score is 7.5/10! #maverickradio

Josh Gad and Kevin Hart bring the laughs out in this hysterical buddy comedy. Josh Gad plays Doug Harris, who is two weeks away from getting married to his beloved fiancée, Gretchen Palmer. However, Doug doesn't have any close friends to attend his wedding. He hires Jimmy Callahan, played by Kevin Hart, to provide best men to attend his wedding. As the days approach, an unexpected friendship develops between Doug and Jimmy, and wild nights of hysteria ensues. This is one of the funniest R-rated comedies I've seen since 22 Jump Street, which was last summer. Its funny, hysterical, and sure had me laughing frequently.
Kevin Hart has been one of the funniest actors in Hollywood. I was quite surprised to see Josh Gad doing a comedy. I have only known him doing the voice of Olaf in Disney's Frozen, and playing Steve Wozniak in the biopic drama Jobs, which was a critical failure. I also surprised by the comedic chemistry him and Kevin Hart brought in this movie. The dance during the wedding reception scene with these two was easily one of the most laugh-inducing scenes in the film. The scene taking place a the bachelor with the dog was a bit crude, but I couldn't help laugh. Kevin Hart also delivers some of the funniest dialogue in many scenes. Sure, there are some scenes that were a bit predictable, but they still manage to be entertaining.
Overall, this movie didn't disappoint me very much. It was very funny and entertaining. If you are a Kevin Hart fan, this movie is a good choice. Be cautious, there are a few nude scenes but don't let them turn you away.

This movie's has two big and cool things, those are Kaley's nipples, more precisely the scene in which she does not wear bra and this business idea for a company that servers best men for hire.
As a person who is having troubles with human connections, I felt very emphatic with this movie. A question I have asked myself numerous times is do I make a mark on a person's life. And from this point and more precisely the movie's explanation for a best friend "someone that makes you feel better for yourself", this movie is a success that most people will not admit.
However, and there is always a but of course, it is not a very original movie. It relies heavy on movie clichés and well known designs.
Final judgment: As a movie I like said, Poe did not invent the words in his poems, as this movie did not invent most the scenes it used, however the order they are is what makes his poems unique. It is the same with this movie, it is quite enjoyable and id made me laugh a few times.

Doug Harris (Josh Gad) is about to be married to Gretchen (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting), but has no friends he can call upon to be Best Man or Grooms. He hires Jimmy Callahan (Kevin Hart) who is a Wedding Ringer who will hire the Grooms. Jimmy will be the Best Man with the name of Bic Mitchell, who will play a priest as well.
This started out pretty good. I thought maybe there wouldn't be any raunch, but I believed too quickly. There are some petty good sight-gags or physical slap-stick in places and I did chuckle from time to time.
If there was one thing that destroyed this from being half-way decent it was the dog licking peanut butter off Doug's genitals and ends up locking onto Doug's penis (yes, a hospital scene is called for). That scene had to be one of the grossest scenes in "Hollywood comedies." Oh, it goes by quickly and you really don't see much, but you do know what is going on. Funny? No way.
The dog scene aside it was the language that killed the slap-stick at times. Couldn't they see they didn't need the language? Or the dog scene? Apparently not.
Kevin Hart is funny and is good at comedy, but sometimes he talks so fast we miss some of what he says. I mean he can talk really fast. On the other hand, Josh Gad is not funny at all and I have no idea why he is considered a comic. He did okay, but not in a comedic way.
The dance scene with Doug and Bic was very good, but wasn't enough to save this. Pity.
Notables: Ken Howard, Mimi Rogers, and Cloris Leachman. The football scenes had notables too: Joe Nameth, John Riggins, and Ed "Too Tall" Jones.
I have yet to learn my lesson to not watch these so-called comedies. Maybe one day. The language wasn't as bad (yes, it was) as in other so-called comedies I have watched, but the dog scene was totally out of place and that is what one remembers the most. This could have been half-way decent otherwise. (2/10)
Violence: Yes. Sex: Yes, briefly in the beginning. Nudity: Yes, Doug's penis. Language: Yes.

This film tells the story of a reclusive man who manages to capture the heart of the woman of his dreams. As he doesn't have friends, he hires a group of people to pretend to be his best men and his best friends.
"The Wedding Ringer" is more funny than I expected! The whole concept of the film I'd hilarious, and the delivery of the story is wildly funny and yet not offensive. Kevin Hart's character gets into so much trouble, having to cover up lie after lie. And the bachelor party scene is so funny that it made me laugh hard! The idea of best men for hire is actually quite believable, and I wonder if this service does exist in real life! I enjoyed watching "The Wedding Ringer" a lot.

I'm not a massive fan of modern comedies. I'm a traditional comedy guy, and my favourite comedies are things such as Planes, Trains & Automobiles and Dumb & Dumber. Comedies with a bit of heart and not just cracking gags for the sake of it, meaning it comes off desperate or just over the top.
Luckily, this movie was really surprising, as it made me laugh on several occasions. Kevin Hart is a funny guy, and Josh Gad does a decent job too. Think it made me laugh more to hear Olaf swearing.
I watched this on the off chance, as I had nothing else to watch so I put it on, and it did grab my attention. Most comedies are just background movies when I'm doing something, but I focused on this as I enjoyed it. There seemed to be a heart to this film, and the comedic bits were choreographed a lot better than many other movies boast. Yes it was clichéd, yes it was typical Hollywood, but to be honest, as long as it makes you laugh, that's all that matters. None of the laughs seemed forced, and don't get me wrong it wasn't perfect, but it did give me enjoyment for an hour and a half.
Kevin Harts best movie without doubt, much better than Get Hard.

As a comedy based on a lie, like most of the comedies are being built like nowadays, this movie actually has something more than just going by that usual recipe. The timings are perfect, The movie waste no time in introducing the main premise, building the main characters, and ramping up for the story's main conflict. In fact all three are done at the same time. The comedy side is really nice. It is at just the right dose, not being lame and also not being overly hyperbolic. All of the previously set tricks are not left unperformed. Also there's enough variation in the comedy scenes. The acting overall is a nice job for me. Kevin Hart did very nice in portraying a confident hustler while Josh Gad also put enough emotions to his character of a timid an insecure man. Having Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting is also a nice addition to the movie.
People have been criticising this movie for being niche or cliché but lets keep in mind that every movie has a sense of uniqueness to at least the smallest extent or it would spark a huge outcry. This movie IS predictive. You'll get what you expect to see. But it also gives you what you hope to see.
Jokes come on an average of 1 joke every minute. Not all the jokes may be innovative but nonetheless, will tap into your sense of humour. They range from weird looking people to awkward situations(the most apparent) to religion and hilarious acting. In fact, the concept of hiring a best man is pretty much a joke on its own. Humour wise, this movie has passed. but then again there are tons of other comedies out there so the only way to put itself ahead is by introducing innovative jokes. This wasn't so apparent here.
The movie doesn't go into very deep topics. Yes it does its fair share of seriousness(as compared to the dictator). However, its nothing too cheesy. Some deep conversations but nothing that will spoil the mood of the movie.
Not a must watch movie but something you can easily pop at a party.

In the modern day movie world, it's rather hard to stumble upon a good comedy movie that's not slam packed with extremely gay gestures and ignorant comedy (in which typically rely on verbally profound shock value to ease them by). Therefor for myself, personally I've seen very few comedies that I really could get into over the past several years. Well this movie just changed that for me, and it also brought back my hope for seeing more raw (straight from the heart) comedy movies. Kevin Hart's performance in this flick was on point. He hit every scene in the most appreciable way possible. If you are (or were) an Adam Sandler fan when he was in his prime, and you enjoyed his wild, moody eruptions, and peculiar, sporadic, behavior, then I think you will agree after viewing this film that Kevin Heart can definitely relate. This isn't the kind of comedy to sit down with your family and watch (due to the strong language in certain scenes, and moderate nudity) but, if you like raw, oddball comedies, with non-stop "laugh out loud" punchlines, then this movie will suit you perfectly. Grab some popcorn and a drink, get you better half to sit down with you and make it a date night. This one will really bring out the good spirits as you will both be laughing uncontrollably throughout this whole flick. ENJOY!!!

I've seen Kevin Hart's stand up routines. Hilarious.
I've seen Kevin Hart's T.V. program "Real Husbands of Hollywood". Also Hilarious.
I saw Kevin Hart in one movie, "Ride Along." Boooooo. To be fair, it may have been Ice Cube's fault but when Kevin starts blabbering and ranting aimlessly it is not funny to me.
On to "The Wedding Ringer." Very funny. Kevin Hart was funny as was Josh Gad, but part of the reason I think it was funny is that it had a purpose. The jokes and even physical humor were woven into the script nicely and made sense. They weren't just an effort to showcase Kevin Hart's comedic ability.
They delivered some very solid jokes while trying to prepare Doug Harris (Josh Gad) to get married. And it didn't fall into the sappy love story that romantic comedies fall into. For that I give them extra props.

Review: This is yet another annoying movie from Kevin Hart, with loads of silly jokes and an unrealistic storyline. Its about a groom who doesn't have any friends so he can't come up with a best man for his wedding. He's referred to a "Best Man" agency who supply the perfect man for the job. The groom, played by Josh Gad, asks the agency for the "Golden Package" so the fake best man (Kevin Hart) recruits his close friends to help him with the job. The whole situation becomes a right mess because none of there stories match up but Hart and Gad become close and the groom realises that the marriage to his perfect bride, isn't what he needs in his life. The film is non-stop from the beginning to end and it felt like the director crammed in too much material. The jokes really aren't that great and the plot goes from one ridiculous scene to the next. The only thing that keeps the movie interesting is the relationship between the two main characters who brought light to the crazy situation. Apart from that, I really didn't find this movie that funny and the storyline became quite annoying after a while. Disappointing!
Round-Up: I really can't see how this movie made any money at the box office! There's obviously an audience for Kevin Hart's type of comedy because his movies always make a healthy profit. In this film, his jokes are quite toned down compared to his other movies like Ride Along, About Last Night and Think Like A Man but I still found him quite annoying. Josh Gad acts the same in all of his movies so I wasn't that surprised with his performance. It the first movie to be directed by Jeremy Garelick but he did write and produce the Break- Up with Jennifer Aniston and Vincent Vaughn. Personally, I think that this would have been much better if there was other actors playing the leads because the concept isn't that bad.
Budget: $23million Worldwide Gross: $80million
I recommend this movie to people who are into their comedies about a groom who hires a best man for his wedding because he has a lack of close friends. 3/10

A comedy starring Kevin Hart, The Wedding Ringer is a tale of a Jimmy Callahan (Kevin Hart) who has a business that help grooms survive the wedding process. In this case Doug Harris (Josh Gad) has found the woman of his dreams. He just has to give her the fairy tale ending she deserves. In comes Bic (Kevin Hart) to save the day (for a small fee) and allow the couple to live happily ever after. A silly funny film that makes for a good laugh and realize the silliness of putting needless pressures on a big day in a man and woman's life. A perfect movie for those days you want to have a big laugh. I enjoyed it and can't wait for my wedding day.
Comedian Kevin Hart has been appearing on screens big and small for about fifteen years now, but only in the past year or two has he become really famous. In 2013, there was his well-received concert film "Let Me Explain" and his strong supporting performance as the comic relief in "Grudge Match". In his first lead role (2014's "Ride Along"), he seemed to be trying too hard and his schtick wore thin long before the movie was over. But it seems that with the experience he has gained, if he's given a good script and a wise director, he's able to carry a movie and be funny throughout. That's the case with "The Wedding Ringer" (R, 1:41).
In his first film of 2015, Hart plays Jimmy Callahan, a best man for rent. He's hired by guys who don't have any close friends and need a temporary best friend for their weddings. It's a creative premise and well-suited to Hart's talents. Part serious businessman, part huckster and part entertainer, Jimmy does his job very well. And he's very professional. He'll give you his all, but then after you've paid him, that really is all. No real friendship and no further contact – unless you buy the package that includes the annual birthday phone call (or, as in one scene, you die and Jimmy reprises his role as your best friend to do the eulogy at your funeral). When you hire Jimmy, he'll assume whatever name and backstory you invent in order to explain your friendship and he'll even take photos with you, staging events or trips during which the two of you allegedly had a great time.
Enter Doug Harris (a well-cast Josh Gad). He's a successful tax attorney who moved around a lot as a kid and, as an adult, is consumed by work. Consequently, he has no real friends. But somehow, he landed a hot girl named Gretchen (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) who wants a big wedding – and he needs SEVEN groomsmen! HELP! Well, help is what Jimmy Callahan does. But seven groomsmen? That kind of package isn't even in Jimmy's brochure! It's called "The Golden Tux" (the movie's original working title, by the way), and has so far only existed in rent-a-best-man mythology and is considered impossible to pull off. Jimmy tries to refuse Doug, but for $50,000 (plus expenses), he agrees to accept the challenge. Jimmy assembles a rather motley crew of guys that Doug says "look like the cast of 'The Goonies' grew up and became rapists." Regardless, it's the best Jimmy could do on short notice and the guys get to work. They learn their new identities (starting with Jimmy as a guy named "Bic Mitchum" who is from North Dakota and is a priest in the Army) and create a friendship history with Doug. Somewhat predictably (but no less entertaining), Doug and his newly hired "friends" begin to bond during the course of their professional relationship. In the end, every relationship in the movie is transformed and most of the characters have learned some lessons about friendship and sincerity.
What could have been (and may even sound like) a trite rom-com or buddy comedy is actually fresh and funny. There's physical comedy, a variety of jokes that are well-written and well-timed and some pretty outrageous situations and sight gags that will make you laugh, even when you're wondering if you should. Politically correct this film is not. What it is, is creative, entertaining and, in the end, even sincere. Best of all, Kevin Hart seems to have found his groove – a mixture of over-the-top, subtle and thoughtful. It's a combination that I think will serve him well. At least, I hope so. I'm looking forward to his inspired pairing with Will Farrell in "Get Hard" (out later this year) and "Ride Along 2" is also on its way. In the meantime, "The Wedding Ringer" gets a "B+".

This movie is wrong on so many levels; I found it misogynistic, homophobic, racist, you name the prejudice and it's probably in there. There is absolutely nothing modern about it at all (it is the most stereotypical story in the book) and every character seems to completely lack depth of thought and feeling. There are 2 scenes in particular where I literally thought to myself "Have they just given up on this movie and are adding these scenes in because it looks like it would be an absolute blast to act?" Even the plot isn't new; it's a recycled theme and a movie with this plot comes out maybe once every couple of years.
AND YET with all the terrible caricatures of people (and women in particular) I actually found myself laughing out loud (literally) in the cinema on more than one occasion.
You can't take it too seriously, and if you're looking for anything remotely deep or even believable, or if you're likely to be offended right at the start (because the movie is offensive for all the reasons mentioned above) don't watch this movie. But if you just want an hour and a bit of mindless comedic entertainment, then give it a go.
