Awesome Documentary About A Side of Hip Hop Rarely Shown

Very insightful piece about the side of hip hop music that isn't shown too much in film or otherwise, the intellectual, cultural side. Artists and icons discuss problems with the genre and how they fit into the puzzle to fix these issues. At approximately an hour long, it's just the right length.

The DVD also features a bunch of bonus material in the form of a DVD magazine: that actually features a different edit than the documentary. This bonus version contains extended artist interviews that are edited in a totally different manner. Other bonus footage includes a short feature that follows the director into a juvenile detention center where he proceeds to ask and then discuss what makes real hip hop vs. rap music. Interesting. The piece as a whole is an excellent study on an art form that is usually represented by ignorant gun totting artists who allow their jewelry to outshine their talent. This is very different.
