It's very, very long. But in most episodes nothing major happens. Big, major dramatic things happen once every 30-40 episodes. Everything in the meantime is meh. I mean in every episode at least 40 minutes are spent on unnecessary dialogue to cover a gaping lack of plot. Things like can you hand me a cup of coffee Leyla? These happen in every episode, numerous times. Then we're also forced to hear whether they like their coffee with or without sugar. Or how their windows are dirty. Who effing cares???! Because of those boring scenes it has as many episodes as it does. Without that, it could all easily fit into 50-100 episodes at the most.
It's heavily patriarchal and that's the most annoying part of all. Ali is a good man, but heavily old fashioned, strict and stony. However, it's both infuriating and stupid to watch the way he rules the lives of all his children with an iron fist. The minute they do something he doesn't approve of, he gives them up for dead.
The truth is that if Ali Riza was more open minded and emotional and understanding of his children, none of this would have happened. They were all terrified of him and his reactions. That's why they always lied to him and done many stupid things behind his back. They had no parents who would talk to them calmly or give them sound advice. They had two failures for parents instead. Ali being too strict and harsh caused his kids to rebel quietly, while Hayriye was dumb and more concerned about keeping up the appearances and maintaining peace at all costs, than she was ever concerned about the actual well-being of her own children. That's why they kinda deserve what happened to them.
The antagonists are very unlikable as well. It's pretty boring and hard to watch all in all. Not good for you if you don't want to numb your brain and eat away any remaining neurons in your brain.
