Outside of Eastern European countries and Germany, the cartoon became hugely popular in Japan, where people love "cute" cartoon characters. The simple plots and lack of complex dialogue made the stories easy to understand for an international audience.
The Little Mole was originally a one-shot character whose first cartoon taught children the process of making clothes. He became such a favorite among viewers however that the cartoon was expanded into a long-lasting series, and the Little Mole became one of the most recognizable Czech mascots.
The voice of the Little Mole and other animals were actually recordings of creator Zdenek Miler's daughters.
