Valve has a history of cradling world-renowned games. It’s that one studio in the industry that secretly works on a promising game, only to never market it much in advance. But, when it does decide to break the silence, we’re presented with something like Deadlock – a title that hasn’t even been released, yet has started setting new benchmarks.
It’s tough to put Deadlock into a single genre of gaming. Rather, it mixes some of the best parts of popular subgenres of competitive online games, such as multiplayer online battle arena (Moba) and hero shooters. In doing so, it also introduces new mechanics that set itself apart from other titles.
What Deadlock Isn’t There are a bunch of skill sets you’ll need to master.

This might sound rude, but it's doubtful that the "Wrong Turn" films are anyone's ride-or-die franchise. In fact, when we did our own ranking of the 15 best horror movie franchises, the "Wrong Turn" property didn't even make the cut. And yet, despite the odds, seven "Wrong Turn" films (including a prequel and a reboot) have been released since 2003. That's a new "Wrong Turn" movie every three years on average! The series centers around a family of inbred cannibal mutants in Appalachia, leaning into every insulting cultural stereotype about mountain folk and turning it into a horror story. The "horrifying hillbilly" trope is nothing new, but the "Wrong Turn" series has become the grotesque poster child of the subgenre.
Against the better judgment of most, I have willingly watched all seven "Wrong Turn" films and ranked them here for your viewing pleasure. Let's throw out our maps, completely ignore our Gps,...

Dubbed creepy nicknames such as "Hotel Death" and "The Suicide," the Cecil Hotel harbors a dark history as a hotbed for death, suicide, and murder. A magnet for crime, it was formerly home to serial killers such as Richard Ramirez and Jack Unterweger. In 2013, its notoriety hit off once more when 21-year-old Canadian traveler Elisa Lam was found dead in the hotel's water tank days after police released a chilling video of her in an elevator.
Lam's story is now the focus of Netflix's Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel, which interviews experts and hotel workers to clarify the context around her case. But this docuseries isn't the first time we've seen the Cecil or Lam's story referenced on the small screen. Back in 2015, the Cecil actually inspired Ryan Murphy to create American Horror Story: Hotel, which focuses on the disturbing events at the fictional Hotel Cortez.

Rob Schmidt’s Wrong Turn was hardly a massive success at the box office back in 2003 after raking in $28 million on a budget of $12 million and reviews were far from enthusiastic, with many critics labeling it a formulaic and uninspired slasher that brought nothing new to a genre that had already been done to death a thousand times over, but it still went on to launch a multi-film franchise.
None of the following installments were even released in theaters, but Wrong Turn quickly became a fixture of the VOD realm with sequels Dead End, Left for Dead, Bloody Beginnings, Bloodlines and Last Resort arriving between 2007 and 2014. The second movie is the only one that was received enthusiastically, while the rest were standard low budget slashers that well and truly ran the concept into the ground.

There once was a time when crisp photography and nicely framed aerial shots were a guarantee of at least a degree of quality in a film. As Devil's Night soon makes clear, that time is gone. What has been great for film on one level - the reduced cost of good quality equipment opening up opportunities for creative talent once priced out of the industry - has been bad on another, making new content much more difficult to curate. There's an unfortunate belief that anybody can make a watchable film if only they've seen a few - or played a few video games.
Devil's Night is rendered very much in the language of video games, with odd character positioning and curious little cut-aways which will make no sense to viewers without that background. This also explains its monster, which is based loosely on legends of Detroit hobgoblin the Nain Rouge -.

Pyramid Head is coming to Dead by Daylight. According to developer Behavior Interactive, the terrifying antagonist and media icon from the Silent Hill franchise will be available as a playable character in the game’s next Dlc.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the property, Dead by Daylight is an online horror-based survival game in which one player assumes the role of killer, and four others play the part of victim. The goal of the killer is to, well, kill the other players, while the victims must try to escape from their pursuer.
Although Dead by Daylight boasts a small variety of original characters, it’s the licensed ones to which the game owes its popularity. [To get you into the spooky spirit, the Daily Dead team is spotlighting double features that we think would be fun to watch this Halloween season. Check here for more double feature recommendations and other Halloween 2017 coverage.]
In horror movies, things usually go so very wrong on October 31st when it comes to the Halloween-themed offerings of the genre. But what about the night before? October 30th, or “Devil’s Night”, can also bring about its own horrific consequences, which is the theme I went with when it came time to put together my double feature of Alex Proyas’ The Crow and Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses. Both are coincidentally feature film debuts for each director, they feature killer soundtracks, and this pair of films is also centered around a storyline where the characters will never be the same after their experiences on the night before Halloween.
Based on the comic by James O'Barr, The Crow finds aspiring rock star Eric Draven (Brandon Lee) rising from the grave a year after his death to take revenge on the four thugs (David Patrick Kelly, Angel David,...

American Horror Story's shared universe aspect comes into its own this week with the fun return of a Coven character...
This review contains spoilers.
1.11 Battle Royale
It took Ryan Murphy five seasons and a return to a familiar stomping ground to bring American Horror Story full circle. The recycling of Pepper last season was a nice touch, and the freak show or the asylum was a common destination for unfortunate microcephalics back in the dark days, so to have the character move from one to the other makes sense. However, there wasn't a lot of modern crossing-over, aside from using the same actors. That's changed with Hotel. Whether it's the La location or the modern setting, old familiar faces have been popping up (and usually dying horribly) within the confines of the Hotel Cortez.

Episode ten of American Horror Story Hotel, She Gets Revenge, works spectacularly well...
This review contains spoilers.
5.10 She Gets Revenge
There aren't a lot of action sequences in American Horror Story, but when something violent happens, as it does a lot this season, they tend to make a lot of it. The Hotel Cortez has been home to some terrible things, and it's always very stylish to behold. However, the titular Hotel is not really the centre of sweetness. Sure, there have been a few nice moments her and there, but nothing consistent, or played as straight as the reunion between Liz Taylor and her long-lost son Dennis. Throughout the episode, Liz and Iris make plans to commit suicide, but first they have to tie up their loose ends to keep from becoming prisoners of the Cortez.
For Iris, that's simple: she has to cancel her magazines...

5.9 She Wants Revenge
It's been a while since a season of American Horror Story has been this consistently good, both in terms of acting, characterisation, and general plotting. Hotel is a world full of interesting characters portrayed by interesting actors who make interesting choices. The collection of visual styles—high fashion, 1920s class, 90s funk, 60s glamour, 80s rocker chic, and a whole host of other distinctive looks—add colour and depth to a world in which there are people who are trapped out of their own time and people who are not constrained by the tick-tick-tock of the clock and the limitations of a mortal time frame. Evan Peters and Wes Bentley's characters make the perfect counterpoint in this week's fun, ever-stylish American Horror Story: Hotel...
This review contains spoilers.
5.8 The Ten Commandments Killer
There's not a lot of artifice or misdirection to Ryan Murphy's television shows. Very rarely does he pull off a surprise, and when he does pull off a surprise—see the Rubber Man from Murder House—it's not always very good or very welcome. I'm not even sure he's trying to spring surprises anymore, given just how long the show has telegraphed the very “twist” it unfurls this week. John Lowe, ace detective and the man obsessed with tracking down the Ten Commandments Killer, is actually the Ten Commandments Killer, which is something people have basically been discussing since the earliest stages of the season.
It's a predictable turn of events, and one that the show's been building on for multiple weeks,...

Rarely has American Horror Story sustained its current level of momentum, quality and sheer entertainment...
This review contains spoilers.
5.7 Flicker
I absolutely love it when American Horror Story uses film-making style to help tell their story. It's not a question of the way the characters dress or the way the sets are displayed, but a question of actual technical techniques. A significant portion of Flicker is devoted to the life and times of a very young Countess—long before she was the Countess—as a fresh-faced Italian girl from Bensonhurst, Brooklyn who made her way out to Hollywood to become a star on the silver screen. A chance appearance as a harem girl leads to a meeting that will change young Countess's life forever as she finds herself wooed by the most famous lover in history, Rudolph Valentino (Finn Wittrock, playing a new role) and his glamorous wife,...

How terrifying can a baby really be? Er, pretty bloody terrifying judging by this week's episode of American Horror Story: Hotel...
This review contains spoilers.
5.6 Room 33
Lady Gaga's got a thing with her fans. She calls them her little monsters. It's a great fandom nickname, akin to the Kiss Army in terms of recognizability. After all, there's a whole episode of The Simpsons based around Gaga's schtick. It's the worst episode The Simpsons has ever done, but that's not the point. It's a known quantity, and I have no doubt it's been one of the inspirations for Countess's collection of creepy children, alongside The Shining and Village Of The Damned. They're actual little monsters, and she's their mother.
Of course, she's not just their adopted mother, she's the actual mother of at least one child, courtesy of the good butchers at Murder House. That's right, Countess...

Vampire children run amok among multiple plot-threads in this week's American Horror Story: Hotel episode...
This review contains spoilers.
5.5 Room Service
There's a lot going on in every episode of American Horror Story, and sometimes it makes it difficult to figure out just how to sit down and write a review like this. I mean, when the show is full of plot elements, how can you really focus on one? Last week was easy; a serial killer dinner party is always going to be attention-grabbing, but this week's episode had multiple fun things happening, so I guess I'll just stop waffling and go right to the vampire children.
Alex, the caring nurturer of Holden that she is, has been newly minted as a vampire by Countess Gaga, and she's having a little trouble adjusting. She's woozy, she's room temperature, her Pov shots are all blurry, she's vacant and clammy.

America's serial killers come out to play in American Horror Story Hotel's latest Halloween episode, Devil's Night...
This review contains spoilers.
5.4 Devil's Night
The announcement that Lady Gaga would play a prominent role in American Horror Story: Hotel was a bit of a divisive one. She was the centerpiece of a lot of the show's commercials, particularly one of her set to the memorable industrial tune Du Hast by Rammstein. No one knew what role she would play, or what her purpose would end up being, but everyone had an opinion about it, and most of those opinions seem to have been negative. It's easy to see why; Gaga's a pop star, not an actress. If she's been on stage or screen, it's been in the context of her musical talents first and foremost, not her ability to emote or cry on cue. I have to admit to having been pleasantly surprised.

Spoilers ahead for the most recent episode of American Horror Story: Hotel. On Wednesday night’s American Horror Story: Hotel, John Lowe is invited to a dinner party along with Aileen Wuornos, Richard Ramirez, Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, and the Zodiac — a murderer’s row of serial killers. "John is clearly not yet our kind," their host James March tells them when the detective balks at their idea of amuse-bouche and desserts. Was Lowe invited to this strange soirée because he's a guest of the hotel, because they enjoyed the idea of a helpless law-enforcement official in their midst, or because he might actually be a kindred spirit? Wes Bentley, who plays Lowe, helped shed a little light when he chatted with Vulture about Ahs theories, understanding addiction, and why he wants Gwyneth Paltrow's head in a box.Why do you think John Lowe was invited to the Devil's Night dinner?...

Taking a page from season one, American Horror Story: Hotel is celebrating Halloween by letting the dead roam about freely. In "Devil's Night," Mr. March invites some of his infamous friends to celebrate his favorite night of the year. Of course, John is invited, but he can't distinguish what's real and what's not. Meanwhile, Alex makes a sacrifice to be with her son.

The good folks at Pittsburgh's Nevermore Productions have taken to IndieGoGo to finish their retro indie horror The Barn and they've sent us an exclusive clip to help spread the word. It's Halloween 1989, best friends Sam and Josh are trying to enjoy what's left of their final Devil's Night before graduating high school. But trouble arises when the two pals and a group of friends take a detour on their way to a rock concert, finding an old abandoned barn and awakening the evil inside. Now it's up to Sam and Josh to find a way to protect their friends and defeat the creatures that lurk within "The Barn". If the team has put half as much work into the film as they have...

It was about two months ago that it was revealed that Jack Huston and Jessica Brown Findlay would be taking the roles of Eric Draven and Shelly Webster, respectively, in the upcoming remake of The Crow, but now the production has found the performer that they want to play the central villain in the movie. New reports are coming in saying that Andrea Riseborough is in negotiations to play Top Dollar in the project, meaning that this new adaptation will be changing the gender of the character. Deadline has the scoop on this casting development, noting that Riseborough has not yet officially signed on to the project. In the story, Top Dollar is the gang leader who orchestrates a group of thugs who love nothing more than to terrorize the streets of Detroit. One Devil's Night (the night before Halloween), the crew breaks into the apartment of guitarist Eric Draven,...

Much like Eric Draven himself, the remake of "The Crow" just won't die. The movie has been in limbo for years, with seemingly countless directors and stars attached, but with a director and script in place, it's time to find their leading man.
Deadline is reporting that Jack Huston, who played war vet Richard Harrow in "Boardwalk Empire," is in early talks with Relativity to star as the comic book protagonist. In James O'Barr's beloved graphic novel, Draven returns from the dead to get revenge on the guys who murdered him and his beloved fiancé Shelly on Devil's Night. The two were to be married the next day - on Halloween, natch. The role was made famous by Brandon Lee, who was accidentally killed during filming. Sequels to "The Crow" were dismal, but the original is a spooky '90s classic.

The axe-ploitation flick The Barn has a new trailer. This film, which pays homage to slashers of the '89s, involves several friends and a weekend getaway. Unfortunately, the friends unleash a long hidden evil. That evil resides in a manure strewn old barn. As well, this film stars Mitchell Musolino, Will Stout and Lexi Dripps. The story was developed by a team of writers, including: Maggi Mizell, Michael Prutman, Mark J. Reyes and Justin M. Seaman. The first trailer for The Barn is hosted here. The story begins on Devil's Night. On this special night, a group of friends are heading to a rock concert. They take refuge in a field, where an old barn resides. Now, several creatures of the night are awoken. Grumpy, they take out their anger on this group of friends, with axe, machete or scythe. The first trailer for The Barn is a good one.

It's perfectly fitting that the newest Rob Zombie film would be announced on the weekend of Halloween. And while his next project will not be a continuation of the rebooted Halloween franchise that he began back in 2007, the new film is still set on the ghastly, ghoulish holiday. Unfortunately, it may also serve to tick off the folks over at Marvel Comics. The Hollywood Reporter received news of the new Rob Zombie movie out of the on-going American Film Market, and says that the project is appropriately titled 31. The movie is based on an original screenplay by the director, and is partially inspired by a strange statistic that says that more people disappear and are never found again on Halloween than on any other day of the calendar year. The story will begin on the night before the holiday (a.k.a. Mischief Night or Devil's Night in some areas...

Step Brothers stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are teaming back up for a new comedy called Devil's Night. These two guys make some ridiculously beautiful comedy together, so it's awesome to see that they are going to bring us something else we can all laugh at. According to The Wrap, this is the description of the story:
The unofficial holiday made Leonard and Gabe best friends as children, though it would eventually be responsible for tearing them apart. 15 years later, with Devil’s Night growing out of control, they must put their differences aside and reunite to save their neighborhood from utter destruction.
For those of you who don't know Devil's, Night is an actual unofficial holiday that takes place on October 30, which is when some crazy mischief goes down. I can only imagine how fun a movie like this will be, especially with Ferrell and Reilly delivering the comedy greatness.

Following a hilarious tagteam of comedy in both Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and the superior Step Brothers, the dynamic duo of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly will be back together again. The Wrap reports Ferrell and Reilly are attached to star in Devil's Night, a new comedy set up at Sony Pictures. The script comes from Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul (writers of Yes Man) and takes place on October 30th, the night before Halloween which is known as Devil's Night, the time when all the real mischief takes place. As you can imagine, Ferrell and Reilly are in on the craziness, but there's a genre twist. In what sounds like a project that could blend comedy and horror, likely in the same vein of The Watch, Ferrell and Reilly play Leonard and Gabe, once childhood best friends who enjoyed Devil's Night, until it ended up tearing their friendship apart.

While they shared the screen in Tallegada Nights, it was Step Brothers that really hammered home what Will Ferrell and John C. Rielly can achieve as a double act. Now the pair are teaming up again for Devil's Night, a new Halloween set comedy which sees the two play estranged friends who must team up after 15 years apart to save their neighbourhood from destruction during Devil's Night, an unofficial holidy where mischief and vandalism is let run riot. No doubt much hilarity, and hopefully a rap song, ensues. Ferrell and Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions will produce the film, working from a script by Yes Man scribes Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogul. No director or release date has been announced yet. via The Wrap...

Their comic chemistry is a huge box office draw and now Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly will reunite for "Devil's Night."
According to TheWrap, the comedy follows Leonard and Gabe, who used to be best friends until one October 30th night destroyed their relationship. Fifteen years later, the pair are brought together on "Devil's Night" to save their town from supernatural forces.
Previously, the duo made audiences laugh in 2008's "Step Brothers" and in 2006 in "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby."
In the meantime, fans can get their dose of Will Ferrell when he reprises his role as Ron Burgundy in "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues," hitting theaters on December 20th.
