As good as Perry Mason
John Larroquette famous for playing ADA Dan Fielding on Night Court has graduated to some more serious type casework in the McBride series of made for
TV films. As John McBride he's a former cop now a defense attorney and most
of the cops seem to hate him as they regard him some kind of traitor to law and
order. They also know that they can't pull anything with him. All but Detective
Marta Dubois who is willing to listen to alternative theories.
Larroquette and assistant Matt Lutz are defending Jackson Summer on a murder charge. Lutz is Larroquette's Paul Drake. Summer is accused of murdering classical violinist Josie Davis. Davis is the daughter of a US Senator and that's not the only connection she uses to advance her career. To her father Eric Pierpont she's still daddy's little girl.
I have to say they pulled a perpetrator out of left field. Never saw this one coming. The mark of a good mystery for me.

One Of The Best McBride Movies
I'm very fond of LaRoquette and most of the movies in the McBride series, and this is one of the best. There is one caveat for me, however, and that is the obtrusive, mostly plagiarized, and often irrelevant "music" playing in the background; sometimes the volume level is so high for it that I have trouble hearing the actors. Otherwise, this is good viewing!
