Director Martin Koolhoven had already met Dutch rapper 'Yes-r' a year before when he did a casting for his film Het schnitzelparadijs (2005). He saw the talent of the young Morrocan, but thought it was a bit to early for 'Yes-r'. A year later he called him back to give him the lead in his new production.
Even though the movie was made for TV ( through the Dutch Telefilm project) the movie came out in the theatre first and was a success. It won a Golden Film.
Koolhoven made the two most successful Telefilms that came out in the cinema's.
Ad van Kempen won the award for Best Actor on the film festival of Pinamar in Argentina. Though acting already in movies for over 30 years, it was his first award outside of Holland.
Actress Plien van Bennekom was pregnant during the shoot. Her style of clothing was based on trying to hide her belly.
