There are two spoof references in the movie to the Duke lacrosse team of which three players were falsely accused of rape in 2006. In April of 2007, all charges were dropped against the three players; North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper declared them innocent. The resolution of the case eventually led to the disbarment and resignation of the lead prosecutor in the case, Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong.
