Seki no Yatappe, is an adaptation of a well-known story from the popular author Shin Hasegawa. The touching action packed tale follows a wandering feudal yakuza, a righteous loner who comes to care for a child, having witnessed the brutal murder of her father... Director Kôsaku Yamashita made his debut in 1961, deservedly it was this film that first brought him critical acclaim. Toei studios flourished throughout the 1960s, with their numerous highly-popular ninkyo films, tales of chivalry. The wonderful crime action films are grounded social dramas, highlighted with essential elements, the gangsters code of honour, having an emphasis on the obligation to the group and thoughtfully of ninjo ('humanity / compassion'). the films of Toei stand in contrast to the frenetic energy of the crime films of rival studio Nikkatsu. Yamashita was a brilliant director a highly skilled stylist, his richly atmospheric Seki no yatappe, is testament to his creative mastery.Yamashita cinematic legacy has left us with a captivating collection of stunning little known works, many excitingly await discovery from the discerning cinephile. Highly Recommend !!
