This movie was about average for the Sci-Fi channel. Dean Cain added some humor. Not wanting to give away the plot let's just say this is the standard comedy with zombiesque "movie of the week" qualities.Mad scientist, Army men(Douglas Tait,) hot babes(Susan Ward,) One black Eddie Murphy type character(Guy Torry,)etc. Even though the formula was stale "Dead and Deader" is better than some of SF-C's movies. The female breast on the one corpse shocked me because it slipped past the sensors. So guys slow the Tivo when you see the metal examination tables. The effects were better than usual also because they didn't over use the CGI. Better stories are needed for us hard core fans.
I caught the start of this on the Sci-fi channel a while back but I fell asleep before the end (not a testimony to how bad it was or anything, it was on at 3am). Much to my delight I found it for £3 online so I happily added it to my zombie collection.
The story revolves around Dean Cain who is dead, a zombie but not quite the evil kind unless he gets hungry (good idea to carry a bag of steaks around in his presence). He wants to get to the bottom of why he's dead yet alive.
There are some incredibly silly parts including the fact Dean Cain heals instantly every time he is hurt. How would his cells regenerate if he was dead? That and the overacting from his sidekick who steal's Will Smith's number one catchphrase.
If you're expecting a hardcore zombie film you'll be sorely disappointed. If you want a lighthearted look at the living dead with some nice green splatter special effects and Dean Cain flashing his man-boobs then this is exactly what you need.
A slightly above average 6 out of 10.

This is a good one. Considering it's a TV movie it preforms really well and keeps the entertainment going throughout the movie. Some scenes tend to be bothersome, for example when the military truck breaks down. There was no scene that lead to that, it went from sitting there in truck to standing outside the broken down truck. It's almost like there was a scene before that and it was removed. Good movie with graphic violence which tends to keep people watching whether they want to admit it or not. Lots of random action /graphic violence scenes that happen out of nowhere. Caine always has something cocky to say after achieving something further in the story like killing a zombie. The only reason it didn't get a higher rating is because it wasn't a major motion picture. But it should have been. It surely doesn't compare to Dawn Of The Dead or like 28 days later, but it's still worth the watch. One thing I found interesting was they never used a whole load of CGI graphics like most TV movies do(excessively). For example the zombies are people dressed up as zombies not computer generated images. Even gun shots and things like that seem real. In one scene where Caine(Bobby) first meets the character "Johnson" and Johnson shoots the insect on the tile floor. The insect is destroyed but the tiles are left clean. You would think a double barrel shotgun would mark any floor in some which way or form. Enjoy the flick.
A bunch of soldiers get blown up by a hand grenade. When the bodies are shipped home, one of the victims reanimates while his autopsy is being performed. How? A scorpion is living in his arm. Then his buddies do the same and they transform into zombies.
It's all just an excuse for the usual zombie formula: a few humans are getting picked off one by one by an ever-increasing mob of low-paid extras with some Halloween war paint yelling and screaming in deep-gurgle language. The humans always have dozens of guns and rifles that never seem to run out of ammunition, blasting the ghouls in the forehead or chest where they always seem to explode into red dye. Although this film takes a slight turn: a few of the infected have black blood; I guess the evil scientist and his scorpion minions had a hand in that. The dumb sidekick who won't shut his mouth and spews out lousy cultural reference jokes is just annoying; I kept hoping he'd get it.
Plenty of spraying blood and carcasses on the ground. It's got a lot of all the zombie necessities. The only thing it lacked apparently was a budget.

Dead and Deader is about some insects that infect humans who then become flesh eating zombies. The star is infected, but cuts the insect out before it can fully infect him and helps the living get ride of the infected. I expected the film to be a real bomb, but it wasn't too bad for a cheap TV movie. Not too dark and not too gory as a small group of heroes take on the zombies and the don't ask don't tell military to save the world. Flakey fight scenes and poor fight camera work just make you dizzy watching it. I think I can attribute the film's appeal to the seasoned actors and a lighthearted storyline. It's not too serious and not the best technically, but not a total waste of time.
A bunch of special forces soldiers in Cambodia get blown up and one of them wakes up on the autopsy table apparently fine, except he's got a scorpion inside his arm. He shows no life signs but is otherwise perfectly normal. His friends seem to have come off worse, waking up as more traditional people chomping zombies.
At first the situation seems quite interesting and you go along with it but the crappy Pulp Fiction style popular culture chats about movies and suchlike between the main character and the black sidekick quickly get very tedious.
I've got to give it a four out of fairness because it's watchable, but I didn't find it funny or really that interesting after the first half hour. Most people seem to have liked this one but I think that says more about the ever decreasing expectations of the audience than the quality of this movie. It's got some OK zombie moments and reasonable acting but they could have put all that military hardware and zombie makeup to far more entertaining use.

Well, i have seen better, i have seen worse... but now i just finished looking it and i nearly smiled all the time for the funny gags. If you liked the humor of other films, where they run around in deepest trouble and discuss the quality of other horror films, then it will fit your sense of humor, too. I won't give a plot summary here, for i am German and i hope, you forgive all faults that might appear. Back to topic: this film is for a TV-Production well done and if you are not the one, who aspects million dollars special-effects, but some that are compared to other zombie films very well done, it will be fun to you. Like i just wrote i just finished the film and during writing this i smile all the time for the gags that pass my mind. Well, like everything, it is a matter of taste *ggg*.....
Sometimes over-the-top, self-knowing humour can be very off putting and especially when it's trying to be a horror movie too. I thought the straight-to-TV enterprise "Dead and Deader" did a good job making these elements gel in something that was outrageous in the thrills with moments of grisly gore, but also amusing in its gags. The snappy script really did like to play up trivial movie references (where it even takes a dig at film-maker Michael Bay) and acknowledge its influences, thanks mainly to Susan Ward's stunning looking film geek character. Along for the on-the-run, buddy formula is Dean Cain (who's quite likable) as a walking dead solider and Guy Torry as the token smart talking army cook as they race against time to stop a zombie plague which could wipe out the entire nation. Also showing up in entertaining roles is Armin Shimerman, John Billingsley, Colleen Camp, Dean Haglund and the always imposing Peter Greene. While it looks on the cheap due to its budget restrictions, it is competently executed with some creative camera angles on show and decent effects (mutant scorpions) as bodies are pulled and ripped apart. While the pacing never lets up. The further along the story goes the more unhinged and kooky it gets within its developments and set-pieces. It's fairly dumb, but remains tacky fun and a lot better than numerous sci-fi originals. .

Ill keep it simple this film should have been good, the idea was great it really makes me want to see a live action Deadman film (comic book character) but the big problems with the film are awful support actors awful script really really bad direction bad make up and Ha! Special effects, seriously I've seen better in the hammer horror films. must say though i kind of enjoyed it, its one of those few films thats so bad its good and it really is good its fun like a blow job ya can just sit down and enjoy it non of that thinking or doing any work just enjoying it and it'll keep ya happy until Romero or who ever does another good big budget zombie flick. ill give it a 5 cos its bloody entertaining (Ha! see what I've done there...)

One thing I've always liked about Sci-Fi channel is their fun movies they like to produce themselves.
Army Lt. Bobby Quinn (Dean Cain) and his platoon are assigned to a special trip to Cambodia to find out why a secret scientific lab stopped sending communications to the United States, and upon arriving at the secret lab, they are confronted with dead soldiers and scientists who are zombies infected by a mysterious mutated species of insects that the lab was working on. The zombies attack and kill Cain and his platoon and are later discovered by another expedition sent in to investigate.
The second group transports Cain and his platoon back to the United States to another secret research compound where he is presumed dead and awaiting processing in the morgue, when he wakes up during autopsy. Although Lt. Cain was bitten and infected and died like his platoon, for some reason, he doesn't completely die and turn into a flesh eating monster like the other soldiers. Seems that he has something in his blood that limits his zombie traits although he does take on some of the characteristics of the zombies like needing to eat raw meat. He is told that he has to stay on the compound but Cain's platoon, now flesh eating zombies, start waking up and killing the military and scientific staff at the compound. During the confusion Lt. Cain escapes the military compound with the help of his new friend, army cook Hieronymous Judson (Guy Torry) who, by the way is very comedic. Judson, Cain's new sidekick, is very funny and provides plenty of comic relief throughout the movie. Keep your eye on Guy, I'm betting you see more of him in the future.
So, Caine and Judson go on a crusade to find the compound with the source of the infection in the other secret compound. In a bar where Cain and Judson stop for a bite to eat (ha ha) he meets a saucy bartender named Holly (Susan Ward), a beautiful but independent heroine that is typical modern American woman: she can beat you up while looking beautiful. When Cain is caught by local authorities to take him back to the military compound where he's accused of murder, Holly steps in and rescues him, and gets caught up in the crusade after she sees friends at the bar die at the hand of hungry munching zombies. As the movie progresses, it becomes obvious that Holly has a thing for Cain.
As these three go from location to location looking to destroy the source of the infections, and kill zombies, they encounter bad guys and plenty of hungry zombies who love a good fight. There's lots of humor and flirting going on between Cain and Holly, and lots of good fun and cheesy zombie effects. So people, when you watch a Sci-Fi movie like this, be glad that they choose to carry on the great tradition of weekend horror movies that provide light entertainment and enjoy them for what they are: fun times and some good scares and laughs. This movie is recommended for a good time with that good friend, some popcorn and your favorite beverage!

After dying in Cambodia, a team of soldiers wake up back in America to discover... they're not quite dead. But also, they're not quite alive. Bobby Quint (Dean Cain), the most human of the team, decides to stop the rest of the soldiers before they infect the whole world with their zombie illness.
There should be some discussion about what this film is, and what it isn't. While the film is funny to a point (or at least it doesn't take itself seriously), Fangoria's assertion it's a "zom-edy" like "48 Hours" is overstating this more than just a little. I enjoyed this film, but certainly didn't think it was really laugh-out-loud funny (for that, rent "Shaun of the Dead").
What this isn't is a high budget film with professional quality. It's a made-for-TV film from the Sci Fi channel. However, keeping in mind it's in this category, it's quite good. Unlike "Abominable", this film is decent... and considering it is made by a first time director, I was quite impressed with what they accomplished (calling in an all-star cast and Greg Nicotero for makeup was a good idea).
Also, this probably isn't a film for the general public. They might enjoy it, but I will say this: my number one reason for liking this film (besides the sexy Susan Ward) was the constant barrage of references to other films ("Dawn of the Dead", various James Bond films, "Bullet", etc.). If you're not a film geek, much of the humor will go over your head. The rip on Michael Bay was the bait for me, and the hook came with the lengthy analysis of "Dawn of the Dead" versus the remake (which correctly, in my opinion, pointed out the key differences including the consumerism aspect and Ken Foree's role in both films).
Much of the plot doesn't really make sense if you think about it and plot holes are more common here than one might like (and we are left with questions such as the sexual ability of zombies). But this film isn't here for the plot... it's here for showcasing makeup and was clearly made just to have fun. The makeup, by the way, is great... although some of the props -- such as a fake arm -- were sort of cheesy and filmed from poor angles.
If you're skeptical about this one, don't rent it. But for the right audience I think this film has something to offer. I certainly enjoyed what it was trying to do, even if some things seemed really thrown together hodge-podge (the witty black sidekick, the gratuitous shower scene). And if Sci Fi is showing this, keep your remote control on the coffee table, because this is the best thing you'll get out of them for a while.

I've been very impressed with some Sci Fi Channel productions, most notably the recent miniseries "The Lost Room." This movie effort was not one of them. I enjoy zombie flicks as much as the next person, and cheesy special effects are always good for a laugh, but this vehicle did not use those elements to good effect. Obviously a parody of other zombie films (with dialog comparing the original "Night of the Living Dead" with the remake), it brings nothing new or funny to the genre. It can be done, as "Shaun of the Dead" showed so well. Overall, the production values were too low, the plot too thin, too many goofs to note, and poor dialog much of the time. A throwaway evil villain added very little other than another tired one-liner. I will agree with other comments that the performance by Guy Torry was the one bright spot in the film. He will be one to watch in future projects.
You don't need an intelligent script. ("More holes than a Michael bay film"....yes, but Michael Bay films are watchable!!)
You don't need quality acting. (The master at work indeed...Dean Cain....look at him go...)
You don't need to make sense. (Scorpions turn you into a zombie!!)
You don't need to spend money. (Marvel at the effects)
Throw any old junk together. Don't spend to much time developing it or making it or even caring about what your doing.
Why do all Starz Media films start with a bunch of soldiers in the jungle? Then proceed into the realms of utter nonsense?
Yes the internet may be contributing to the demise of fine feature films but drivel like this being made and then being reviewed as "Great", "Excellent movie" and "Better than expected." can't be helping.
Films like this a lowering the quality bar.
There will always be an audience for this type of terrible movie and they'll always claim:-
"It's a great movie, best zombie flick ever" - What other zombie films have you seen exactly?
"Ideal for Saturday night fun!" You really should get out more if you think Saturday night would be improved by this.
"Better than expected" That says it all, you thought it'd be a bad movie before you watched it.......so why did you watch it? If you thought "Fire may burn my body" would you then jump into a fire to see if it's a bad a burning as you thought?
Unless...
How many of the reviewers above actually work for the company that produced the film. Does IMDb double check this?
I'm lucky, I'm being paid to watch this drivel. I'd advise you to avoid it (and anything else Starz Media produces) if your not in such a fortunate position.
However if your a brain dead text jockey, suffering from an excess of forehead grease, who gets his jollies off by seeing more blood, more bad acting, nonsensical plots and some very feeble post modernist pop culture references...then this is the movie for you!
They have the cheek to have a pop at Michael bay in this film, his films may have plot holes but they're far superior to this hokum! And ultimately more watchable and more profitable.
Film making used to an art form once......

This is the kind of stupid horror film I miss from the '80s and '90s. It's not focused on being shocking, but on being entertaining, funny, and only mildly disturbing. A zombie movie should be funny (Romero can pull off a semi-serious zombie... but we've seen the failure that was the 28 Days movies)and that's what you get with this movie. It's a ridiculous premise, and that's fine given the nature of the movie. It's filled with dumb clichés and that works for this kind of movie. It's a good laugh movie for people who like dumb zombie flicks. Nothing more. Nothing less. It has the silly horror humor of classics like The Stuff. There is not a serious thing in this movie.
This movie was much much better than what I was expecting. The action was exciting, the acting decent, and the writing very funny. It had a ton of "in jokes" for horror movie fans, and movie buffs in general. Although it was mostly a comedy, it wasn't light on horror, action or gore. The main villain was very creepy in a soft-spoken way. Susan Ward's character was awesome! Tough and sexy, yet a movie geek at heart. Where can I find a woman like that? haha The zombies in the film were great! They had the zombie-walk down, but were a bit quicker than the average Romero ghoul. My only complaint is the bitten victims became zombies a little too quickly. The whole scorpion thing was an interesting twist also. All in all, an excellent movie. I can't wait to own it when it comes out on DVD.

I gave this movie a 8/10 just cuz they show it on scifi and kept a lot of the bloody scenes in...most of the time...well if you've ever seen a horror movie on A&E for example or late at night on TBS...you know what i mean. But the special effects aren't amazing...but they are great for a low budget movie. Its funny, gory, Dean Cain can still act! Susan Ward was great as she is hot! I didn't even know she was in it...but i'd recommend seeing this cuz its just fun for being on a scifi and not the big screen...heck i'm gonna buy it on DVD if i can find it :) p.s. not everything in movies has to make sense to be enjoyable...sometimes its just gotta be fun to watch!

Not a bad movie at all. The action was good, the acting was pretty good, and the story was original. Keeping up with the references was fun, one that no one has mentioned here is the conversation in the cooler when Judson asks Quinn to use his heat vision to make a fire and warm the place up. Quinn replies, "I don't HAVE heat vision." (obvious reference to Lois & Clark, where Cain played Superman) Pretty good movie to entertain you for a few hours, just don't expect the grand settings and effects that come with a big budget zombie flick. It's a great movie to laugh with and doesn't take itself too seriously. Rent it or catch it on the Sci-Fi channel, you won't be sorry. (Unless you are VERY serious about your zombie flicks)
I wasn't expecting much from this, but ended up being pleasantly surprised. First off I'll get the bad out of the way. The Kevin Smith style humor, and one liners were pretty hit and miss. I generally liked the cast, they had chemistry, and I found them amusing, however some of the lines were totally copied from Smith's films. Including a rant on who the better James Bond was between Roger Moore, and Sean Connery. And even the humorous moment where Timothy Dalton was mentioned. If you've seen those films, then you know what I mean. Another mild compliant is I loved Armin Shimmerman's character, and would have liked to have seen him with more screen time. Now with that out of the way, I'll get to the overwhelming good. First off the blood and gore effects were top notch. For what was mostly a lighthearted comedy/horror, it gets pretty darn messy. Heads being exploded from ceiling fans, scorpions torn out from inside a person's flesh, and more. It definitely came through for us gore hounds. And the cast, although again some humor fell flat, delivered. All in all, a very good movie. Check it out.

From that line of the movie, you're probably guessing that there's plenty of humor in this movie.Well, you're right. But there's more comedy and action than horror in 'Dead & Deader'. In fact,it isn't scary or suspenseful. But that doesn't mean that this movie doesn't deliver. This movie movie definitely delivers, and in this case,it delivers buckets of gore and entertainment that almost reaches 'Dawn of the Dead'.We should all give Dean Cain a big round of applause, because if he wasn't in this movie, then it wouldn't be as good as I'm describing it right now.So there's good news for all of you people who enjoy extremely gory and funny mayhem that make a movie as good as 'Dead & Deader'.
