James Whitmore plays Colonel Pappy Hartley, an older pilot who not only flew during the First World War but apparently taught Savage how to fly. However, despite all this experience, or perhaps because of it, Pappy is used to playing the lone wolf and he's anything but a team player. Again and again, he ignores rules and tries to play hero...and this can't continue for long.
Wile this is generally a good episode, the stock footage used at the end was terrible and didn't fit the scene at all. It was embarrassingly bad....which is a shame as the show was otherwise very good.
By the way, this final episode of season one is the final episode with General Savage. For some reason, he was killed off when season two began....and I would love to know why the producers did this to the man who anchored the first season.
