Elaine's (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) adventure is based on an experience of writer Carol Leifer. Carol brought a spy with her to a nail salon in real life.
This is the only episode in season six not to feature any stand-up routines. This was due to the episode running 10 minutes too long. A stand-up routine can be seen on the deleted scenes however. Jerry Seinfeld does a riff on the absurdity of believing everything you see in a live play.
The scene where Kramer (Michael Richards) holds Bette Midler and starts to sing The Wind Beneath My Wings was dubbed later. At the time Richards couldn't remember how to sing the song's melody correctly.
J. Peterman, in his first appearance, describes Elaine's coat in overly florid terms. This is based on the actual writing style of the J. Peterman catalogue, and became a running joke for the remainder of the series.
