Joey Wheeler in the original series was called a "Dueling Monkey" and when Jaden had a duel with the monkey taught to duel AKA the Dueling monkey, his name being Wheeler.
Starting from season 3, Syrus is noted to break the fourth wall on a number of occasions. Examples include: In "Snakes in the grass part 1" when Syrus offers Jaden water he had been carrying in a leaf, Jaden refuses. A disgruntled Syrus then says "I have been carrying this for 3 episodes!", which was indeed true He had admitted to not moving the plot along He acknowledged his sub-par duelling, but said "I know I'm not the star but come on, a little respect people"
