Ott platforms have not just changed the rules of the entertainment market, they have given, literally, a second life to Bollywood stars who had faded away from the public eye for quite some time. Of late, a number of senior actors, who had virtually retired from the industry or had limited theatrical releases, are now being reinvented and getting a hugely positive response to their work, courtesy of streaming platforms.
Here’s a list of nine actors who are back in the reckoning in their second innings because of Ott:
Harman Baweja
The actor made his debut with the 2008 release “Love Story 2050”, directed by his father Harry Baweja, and charmed the audience with his dancing skills (and little else!), but he was dismissed by all as the poor man’s Hrithik Roshan.

Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for hard hitting crime drama series “Scoop” from acclaimed filmmaker Hansal Mehta (“Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story”).
Based on journalist Jigna Vora’s 2019 memoir “Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison,” the series is created by Mehta and Mrunmayee Lagoo Waikul (“Thappad”). The book recounts how renowned journalist Jyotirmoy Dey was murdered by members of the Chhota Rajan gang in 2011. A few months later, fellow journalist and crime reporter Vora was arrested in connection with the murder.
“Scoop” marks Mehta and Netflix’s maiden partnership and the series is set up as the first season of a franchise. Mehta has directed all six episodes of the first season.
The series follows Jagruti Pathak, a headline-writing journalist who is caught between the nexus of the police, the underworld and the media. “It explores that nexus through a personal story,” Mehta told Variety.

Bart Ruspoli and Freddie Hutton-Mills, the duo who directed the hit 2014 horror film Cryptic began shooting Genesis, India's first sci-fi film, in the UK from this week. The film being produced by Sheetal and Bhavna Talwar, is being made on the same scale as sci-fi classics like the Star Wars series Gravity and Inception. Though the Talwars are not willing to divulge the exact budget, it is reported to be close to 80 million dollars. Laughs Sheetal Talwar, "Why are we talking dollars when the film is being produced by us and being shot in the UK? But yes, jokes aside Genesis is a very expensive and ambitious film. We were lucky to get Bart and Freddie on board." Bart and Freddie operate the SFX Company Next Level Films which will supervise all the technical aspects of Genesis. To make Chaar Sahibzaade a film on the four sons of the Sikh Guru Govind Singh in the 3D Animation format and to see it finally being released last week was a dream that producer-director Harry Baweja nurtured for decades. To see that dream come to fruition after years of struggle is a life-changing experience for Harry who last directed Love Story 2050 in 2008. 7 years is a long time for a filmmaker to be absent from Bollywood where it's easily true to say if you are out of sight, you're out of mind. But it was a risk worth taking for Baweja. Sighing deeply after what he says was his first night of sleep after release, Harry Baweja who in the past has directed super hits like Dilwale and Qayamat, says, "It was definitely a risk worth taking. For five years I've worked only on my dream project. Now when...

Mumbai, March 18: Actor Harman Baweja has resurfaced after five years to rebuild his dwindling career with "Dishkiyaoon". Talking candidly about the wrong choices he made, he said one should take criticism in the right spirit and move on.
After his debut debacle "Love Story 2050", he had two releases: "What's Your Raashee?" and "Victory". Both films released in 2009 and further dented his career.
"You have to reinvent yourself. In this industry, people criticise not just your work but you as well. So, it gets personal and you have to take it in the right way," Harman, son of filmmaker Harry Baweja, said in a group interview.

For Harman Baweja, a sabbatical of close to half a decade was nothing better than a blessing in disguise. Though some around him thought that it was a professional hara-kiri, those in the know-how of Bollywood functioning believed that this was a master stroke no less. Read on to know whyThe fact remains that he had tried a sci-fi rom-com (Love Story 2050), a film centered on cricket (Victory) and then a dramedy (What's Your Raashee?). After making a sci-fi film Love Story 2050, Harry Baweja's next is Chaar Sahibzaade, a 'photo realistic' 3D Animation film in S-3D on Sikh History.
Commenting on why he decided to make a 3D Animation film, Baweja says, "While going through the pages of Sikh History, as I focussed on the dramatic events around the lives and sacrifices of the four Sons of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, I knew I had the story of my next film in hand. But it is an understood fact that a 'live action' film cannot be made on the lives of the four sons of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, so Animation was the only option in which format I could make a feature film on this part of Sikh History. We then closely worked with Mr. Prasad Ajgaonkar the head at the Animation Studio 'I Realities' to create the world of that era.
