Duff McKagan is helping to raise attention for Mental Health Awareness Month with “This Is the Song,” the Guns N’ Roses bassist’s first new solo recording since 2019’s Tenderness album. “This is the song that’s gonna save my life as I scrape for sanity,” he croons while strumming an acoustic guitar. “Tried Lexapro and what else I don’t know, but still they can’t agree.” The track slowly builds into a swaying, multilayered ballad as McKagan sings, “Come along with me/We’ll get stronger,” before ending on a hopeful note.

Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan has unveiled a new solo single titled “This Is the Song,” addressing his longterm battle with panic disorder. The track has been released as part of a three-song EP in conjunction with Mental Health Awareness Month.
In the acoustic song, the veteran rocker sings, “This is the song that’s gonna save my life/ As I scrape for sanity/ Tried Lexipro and what else I don’t know/ But still they can’t agree.”
A message from McKagan posted on his official website reads, in part:
“Just after 2019, of course, Covid hit, and we all hunkered down and watched as our world as we knew it changed in myriad ways.
Mental health for all of us became more serious, as being cooped up and somewhat freaked out affected everyone. I have dealt with a certain variety of panic disorder since the age of sixteen,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for City on a Hill Season 3 Episode 6 “Tenderness.”] Could we see a bit of a new Jackie Rohr (Kevin Bacon) after the events of the latest City on a Hill? The episode “Tenderness” begins with Jackie being brought into the ER, after he was shot in the leg right after trying to track down one of the young women his employer, Sinclair Dryden (Corbin Bernsen), drugged and assaulted. (Who’s responsible is still a question; he doesn’t think that Sinclair could know about him investigating him behind his back.) Before his surgery, Jackie worries, “I’ve never been afraid to die because I always thought that I would see death coming, but if I’m under anesthesia, how am I gonna know?” Sinclair’s wife, Letitia (Joanne Kelly), with whom Jackie’s been having an affair, stops by — and his wife Jenny (Jill Hennessy) walks in on them together. He tries to cover,...

Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard assembles a group of Seattle all-stars for a cover of “Highwayman,” the Jimmy Webb song about the eternal spirit that became the signature of Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, and Johnny Cash’s country music supergroup, the Highwaymen.
As part of a benefit concert supporting Seattle Children’s Hospital, Gibbard recruited a small army of Pacific Northwest musicians: Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan, Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock, and Screaming Trees’ Mark Lanegan join Gibbard in each taking a verse of the song.

Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn made their mark together as the hosts of the reality competition TV series “Project Runway.” The Emmy-winning pair left that show to preside over another hunt for the next hot designer, “Making the Cut.” This globe-trotting series, which debuts in March on Amazon Prime Video, takes contestants to the design capitals of the world as they compete to stay in the competition.
Amazon Prime Video has also cornered the market on the remakes of Agatha Christie‘s classic mystery novels. The adaptation of her one-off novel, “The Pale Horse,” starts to stream on Amazon Prime mid month after debuting on the BBC at Christmas.
Below is the full schedule of everything that is coming to Amazon Prime Video in March 2020. Unlike Netflix, Amazon does not disclose the shows and movies leaving the service in any given month.

Here's everything coming to Amazon Prime instant video in March 2020!
For its new releases in March 2020, Amazon Prime is enlisting help from some horror friends.
Yes, horror is the name of the game this month with Night of the Living Dead (albeit the 2007 version), The Crazies, and The Descent all arriving on March 1. And if that weren't enough, Pet Sematary comes a little later on on May 19. Look at Church the cat in that thumbnail image. How could you not want to watch his spooky adventures?
The Amazon original offerings are typically sparse for March 2020 but still pack some punch. Italian import ZeroZeroZero stars Gabriel Byrne and arrives on May 6. Then British import Agatha Christie's The Pale Horse comes a little later on March 13.
For what it's worth, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot debuts on March 13 so it's not all horror and all European TV all the time.

We’ve already touched base on the Netflix titles heading our way next month, but what about Amazon Prime?
Though the former is widely considered to be the undisputed heavyweight of the online streaming world, it didn’t take long for Prime to become a tantalizing prospect, no thanks to kick-ass original series like The Expanse, The Boys and The Man in the High Castle.
The real issue for the end consumer is juggling all those subscriptions, particularly now that Disney+ is live across North America (March 24th for those in the UK). Be that as it may, as February nears its end, Amazon has detailed all of the content bound for Prime in March 2020.
Among the new additions are a host of big-name horror films, including Neil Marshall’s The Descent and its creepy sequel. Best of all? Pet Sematary, the reimagining of Stephen King’s literary developed by Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer.

Melina Duterte (a.k.a. Jay Som) makes music that often gets lumped in with that intimately delicate, richly interior kind of indie-rock called “bedroom pop.” If that’s accurate, she’s got a pretty big bedroom.
Few artists these days are so good at turning their private worlds into wide-open biospheres of pleasure and discovery. Duterte’s excellent third LP Anak Ko follows her 2017 breakthrough Everybody Works, on which she gave her ethereal lo-fi musings an almost Brian Eno-esque richness, mixing in Eighties R&b, soft-rock, shoegaze, chillwave...

Duff McKagan strums an acoustic guitar and sings about striving for the truth in front of a rapt audience in the new video for “Don’t Look Behind You,” the closing track on the Guns N’ Roses bassist’s recent solo album, Tenderness.
McKagan filmed the clip at a sold-out show at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theater, where he was joined on stage by producer Shooter Jennings’ backing band. As the song goes on, McKagan seems to get lost in the lilting saxophone solo, shaking his head to the music.

Oscar-winning actress Sophia Loren is back in front of the camera for her first feature film in a decade, directed by her son Edoardo Ponti in a movie in which she plays Madame Rosa, a Holocaust survivor who forges a bond with a 12-year-old Senegalese immigrant boy named Momo.
The film, titled “La vita davanti a sé” (“The Life Ahead”), is an adaptation of Romain Gary’s novel “La vie devant soi,” which was previously adapted for the big screen by Israeli filmmaker Moshe Mizrahi as “Madame Rosa,” starring Simone Signoret. That film won the 1978 foreign-language Oscar.
Loren, 84, plays the same role as Signoret, though Ponti said the two adaptations are very different. The film has begun shooting in Italy. Loren, who is working 10-hour days, said she is allowing herself to “express things on screen in a way that I think audiences will find very surprising.”

Duff McKagan doesn’t consider himself much of an activist. “I give to charity,” he says, “but I do it in a silent way that I think is righteous.” Lately, he’s starting to feel more comfortable talking openly about how he makes a difference in the world.
Recently, the Guns N’ Roses bassist visited “the Jungle,” a homeless encampment in his hometown of Seattle that he describes as “postapocalyptic.” It was estimated in 2016 that nearly 400 people live in some 200 tents under and around I-5 near the city’s Beacon Hill neighborhood.

Here’s a shocker: Duff McKagan’s new solo album Tenderness, out today, is more country sounding than some mainstream Nashville releases joining it on record-store shelves. The Guns N’ Roses bassist embraced that rootsy, even twangy, vibe wholeheartedly when he kicked off his solo tour at Philadelphia’s Theatre of Living Arts on Thursday night.
Backed by Shooter Jennings, who produced Tenderness, and Jennings’ four-piece band, including fiddle player Aubrey Richmond, McKagan recreated the woke 11-song LP in its entirety and rewarded Gnr diehards with Use Your Illusion I deep cuts.

Duff McKagan, Guns N’ Roses’ second-best singer (or is it third-best? where’s Izzy?), gets woke on his mellow new solo album. Amid twanging steel guitars, gospel backup singers and fiddle filigrees, he variously addresses America’s opioid epidemic, school shootings, sexual assault, homelessness and his own transgressions, but it never feels too corny or cloying since there’s always sincerity in his voice. It’s music of conscience, heavy songs with a light touch.

Rome-based Fandango Sales has taken world sales on supernatural drama “The Man Without Gravity” toplining Elio Giordano, who in 2010 for his performance in “Our Life” tied with Javier Bardem for the best actor prize in Cannes and is considered among Italy’s top talents.

Duff McKagan has shared his warm new song “Tenderness,” the first single off the Guns N’ Roses bassist’s upcoming solo album.
“The real point of this record, and the lyrics for ‘Tenderness,’ is not for me to be some damn politician or some other voice to add to what is already way too much noise,” McKagan said of the track in a statement.
Unlike Guns N’ Roses’ stadium-filling fare, McKagan takes a softer approach with “Tenderness,” with the rocker relying mainly on piano and acoustic guitars on the dusty ballad.

Parquet Courts’ lead singer Andrew Savage, one-half of the Brooklyn-by-way-of-Texas band’s two-headed leadership, is mad as hell. While on the opposite side of the stage, bandmate Austin Brown is getting wistful. That yin-and-yang of punk and funk – as Savage notes in the opening track to “Wide Awake!,” “Total Football:” “Collectivism and autonomy are not mutually exclusive” – lends itself to the very human dilemma at the heart of Parquet Courts’ fifth album, “Wide Awake!”
Often cited as part of the continuum of downtown New York art-guitar bands — from the Velvet Underground through Television to the Strokes — Parquet Courts are the perfect example of rock miniaturization, refining what they do to a hard diamond for those in-the-know. By enlisting pop wunderkind Brian “Danger Mouse” Burton as their first-ever outside producer, Parquet Courts has opened up its musical palette even more than most recent effort, 2016’s ballad-laden “Human Performance.”

Get in touch to send in cinephile news and discoveries. For daily updates follow us @NotebookMUBI.Newsi’m drawn to the physical beauty of celluloid, to its grain, texture, tactility, its colors and tones. I find film to be the most challenging and rewarding visual form to work in. Not only celluloid but the mechanisms and optics of film cameras and projectors as well. Zoom lenses, anamorphic and wide angle lenses present all sorts of directions in which to find images. There’s a very intense, emotional charge to shooting on film where there’s rarely a moment when one’s not aware of its fragility, a sense that everything could be for nothing, and certainly the serious cost of film also remains in one’s peripheral awareness. It makes the process feel both exciting and grave. We are heartbroken to hear of the death of San Francisco-based director Paul Clipson,...

Today the annual free festival in Sydney receives thousands of submissions, is attended by more than 150,000 people and watched live via satellite by hundreds of thousands more. This summer Tropfest arrives in the U.S. beginning with a weekend of activities at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, June 1-3, celebrating Tropfest’s 20th birthday and featuring an “All Star Competition” hosted by Rob Corddry.
Three weeks later, Tropfest New York will present a short film competition as the centerpiece for a weekend long event.

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole didn’t receive a kind reception from critics when it first hit theaters. The story about two child owls who get separated from their family only to engage in a Cain and Abel story did not resonate well in the hearts of adults.
Perhaps that’s because Director Zack Snyder (Superman: Man of Steel, Sucker Punch) and screenwriters John Orloff (Anonymous) and Emil Stern (Tenderness) did not intend for it to be an overly gritty film in the vein of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Instead, the team set out to service the original novel series of Kathryn Lasky as best they could. They do so to modest success. The soul of the story, a young owl that triumphs over great adversity is still there, which will be enough to hit home with younger audiences. However, some key details were...

Years ago when I was talking to Jon Favreau about "Made," I brought up a scene that he shot in Glendale, a suburb of Los Angeles that serves as the lair of Peter Falk's lowly kingpin. Favreau barely knew where I was referring to, and I would assume he had lived in Los Angeles since filming "Swingers."
I mention this not to name drop, but because if you don't live in Southern California, you might not understand what limbo has befallen "Cemetery Junction," Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's first feature together in the wake of successful TV series like "The Office" and "Extras." It will be released on DVD next week, but it was dumped first into the Glendale Exchange 10 for a weeklong release that pulled in all of six customers on Monday night and was only publicized by a mention on Movieline and a Ben Stiller tweet,...

In his review of the new Angeline Jolie thriller "Salt" in the New York Times, A. O. Scott describes the film's star as its "prime special effect and a reminder that even in an era of technological overkill, movie stars matter."
Do stars still matter? It's an issue we've been mulling over for months on IFC.com. Last December, we focused an episode of our weekly podcast on this very issue. Inspired by Lionsgate's release of the Russell Crowe movie "Tenderness" to just a single screen in Manhattan, we wondered whether stars have the same power and pull as they used to (our conclusion at the time: no). A few weeks ago, Stephen Saito put together a list of movies with major talent like Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jim Carrey that aren't coming to movies any time soon.
Now, when Scott says movie stars matter, he's referring to their work inside a film,...

Having read quite a bit of Robert Cormier’s extensive catalog, I knew a film based on one of his books was bound to be haunting. But nothing prepared me for the reality of Tenderness. The story focuses on Eric Komenko (played by Jon Foster), an 18-year-old serial killer who is being released from the juvenile detention center he was in, his record expunged. He’s contemplating which college to attend, trying to go back to a normal life, but it’s not easy due to the publicity surrounding his case.
Shortly after his release, Eric opts to take a road trip to “check out some colleges in Albany” (or hook up with a girl he met while at the detention center, take your pick) and finds his car is already inhabited by Lori Cranston, who is sleeping in the back. Lori (played by Sophie Traub) is a troubled teenage...

Hollywood News top ten movie stars (using term loosely perhaps? Tina Fey?) to emerge from SNL
Peel Slowly What's that a poster for? Can you guess which movies these Polish movie posters are selling?
Jon Hamm Mad Men Season 4 now filming. Yayyyyy
Did you see that Russell Crowe got his star on the Walk of Fame this week? It's so random, the timing I mean, when stars receive theirs. A listers and D listers alike get them in surprising time frames. You'd think they'd tie this in with the release of Robin Hood (Cannes opening night film -- see the whole lineup) but in fact, it happened just as Tenderness arrives on DVD. No, I'd never heard of that either. Crowe in a straight to DVD release? What's that about? Maybe it did get theatrical release somewhere but it's rare that something with a star that high profile slips by unnoticed.

Photo: Lionsgate Only a few hours ago I posted my This Week On DVD and Blu-ray column and mentioned how I was going to give Tenderness a chance and I did almost as soon as I hit "Publish".
Directed by John Polson, whose last film was 2005's dreadful Hide and Seek and since then he's been directing TV shows including seven episodes of "Without a Trace" and four episodes of "Flash Forward". However, before any of those shows he directed Tenderness starring Jon Foster and Sophie Taub with Russell Crowe getting top billing even though his role is minimal and equally silly as he plays Detective John Cristofuoro, a cop chasing down Eric (Foster) a recently released, and convicted killer he put away oh so many years ago.

As a country, our appetite for stars -- for gossip and photos and red carpet footage -- is greater than ever, but our willingness to shell out to see those stars in the movies for which they're supposedly known seems to have faded a bit. Take "Tenderness," a Russell Crowe thriller that got dumped into a single screen in New York last Friday by a studio who clearly didn't expect legions of Crowe fans to make any kind of larger release worthwhile.

John Polson directed "Hide and Seek" and "Swimfan." Russell Crowe is, well, Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe.
So why is their latest film, "Tenderness," getting released on exactly one screen on Friday?

Here are poster, photos and trailer for the upcoming Russell Crowe film “Tenderness.”
Eric Poole (Jon Foster) is a charming, attractive high school student with devout, domineering parents. Following an angry outburst from his mother upon her discovery of his promiscuity, Eric maliciously and violently murders both his mother and father.
Years later, Lori Cranston (Sophie Traub), an attractive and audacious young girl who has silently suffered years of sexual abuse from her mother’s revolving door of boyfriends, becomes mesmerized by Eric’s story. Undeterred by Eric’s murderous impulses, Lori flees her mother’s house to find him.
However, while Lori is attracted to Eric’s sinister mentality, Lt. Cristofuoro (Russell Crowe), the officer assigned to Eric’s case, is not convinced he won’t kill again. Cristofuoro goes after him, conflicted about his desire to help Eric – whom he knows has suffered tremendously – and, his knowledge of...

Laura Dern will be joining Ben Stiller, Teri Polo, Robert De Niro, Blythe Danner, Owen Wilson and Jessica Alba in Little Fockers; part three of the series that began with Meet the Parents in 2000 and continued With Meet the Fockers in 2004.Dern will pay the headmistress of the elementary school that Gaylord and Pam's children attend, and that Stiller will no doubt burn down, or flood, or bring disaster to in some hilarious unforseen fashion. Sounds like a fun franchise outing for the actress, who has preferred to stay below the studio radar lately, with appearances in low-key fare like Tenderness and Year of the Dog. She won a Golden Globe for her performance in the TV movie Recount, but missed out on an oscar nomination for Inland Empire, despite David Lynch's high-profile campaign. No news yet on whether Barbra Streisand and Dustin Hoffman are returning for Little Fockers.

HBO is being "Enlightened" by Laura Dern and Mike White.
The pay cable network is developing a single-camera comedy to be written by the "School of Rock" scribe and star Dern as a formerly self-destructive woman who, after having a spiritual awakening, becomes determined to live an enlightened life, creating havoc at home and work.
"There are so many dysfunctional types of characters populating cable television, and she is equally as dysfunctional as any of them," White said, "but her impulse is to get healthy, to make the world a better place even though it creates havoc."
The project stems from Dern's standout performance as Katherine Harris in the 2008 HBO film "Recount," which earned her a Golden Globe Award and Emmy nomination.
HBO approached the actress about a deal. Dern was intrigued but wanted to commit only if she found the right material.

- Picked up by Lionsgate Films exactly two years ago, despite having an unsexy Russell Crowe in the lead, John Polson's Tenderness has been collecting dust and judging by the film's trailer below, it could be argued that this looks like straight to video fair than an improvement on Swimfan and Hide and Seek. Until now it hadn't seen the day of light having been showed solely in market festival screenings, but a recent submission to the MPAA board for ratings purposes and a world preem back in Sydney means we can expect this to hit theaters. Based on writer Emil Stern's adaptation of Robert Cormier's teen serial killer novel, set in New York State, the story centres on the release of juvenile murderer, Eric Poole, who at 18 is set free with an expunged record. Crowe’s character, the arresting detective Cristofuoro, is sure Poole is a serial killer who will reoffend,

Less than two minutes long, the video gives away a background story to the movie as well as displays footage introducing its four major characters played by Russell Crowe, Jon Foster, Sophie Traub and Laura Dern.

When he embarks on a road trip up-state, Cristofuoro who believes that Poole is a potential serial killer keeps him under his watchful eyes. But, all is not as it seems as Poole soon finds himself on the run with a 16-year-old girl, Lori, who could have been witness to the first murder and has become obsessed with him.
