This is the second love triangle between Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan since Straight from the Heart (1999).
Director Rajkumar Santoshi conceived this project a decade before it finally started production, with Aamir Khan in the role of Manu and 'Shahrukh Khan' in the role of Arjun. Kareena Kapoor was signed in the year 2000. The film was originally titled 'Rashq". The film kept getting stalled for unknown reason's.
The word "khanabadosh" is Persian for "gypsy" or "nomad." This refers to the members of London Dreams having traveled from another land (Manu and Arjun came from Punjab and the brothers came from Pakistan).
